Weeks before I ferried to Cesme port from Chios, Greece. I had much difficulty getting true information about how to navigate passport control and customs at the Port Authority station, and then procure transportation from the port to Izmir City. (You only need to watch Midnight Express once to share my trepidation. And I wasn't even bringing any drugs!) I was also concerned about daylight, as the ferry arrives around 18:00. Most Google information regarding taksis was was geared toward Europeans or locals with internet/phone service who want transfers to Izmir Airport. Further inquiries on Facebook travel groups gave me oversimplified instructions from well-meaning members to walk the "short walk" to the Otogar, ride bus to Izmir City Otogar, then get a taksi to my Izmir hotel. Their motivations were purely to save money, as the taksi fee is much higher than the bus ticket cost. I was also assured I wouId arrive to my hotel before dark. I am an American woman who had a leg injury, traveling solo, with no phone service outside of hotel WiFi (no thanks to Verizon International plan). My many lost hours of rest due to concern about the upcoming port arrival were certainly founded. Upon exiting the Port Authority, I was met with taksi drivers who acted as if they could not understand my request for directions to the Otogar. And, there are three roads (sidewalks) leading from the Port Authority, which confused me as much as the poorly-indicated Google maps had. Which road led to Otogar? In my frustration, I ran back in through the exit door as someone else exited and asked for assistance, as I had no phone to call the taksi service number posted on the taksi stand. A security guard called the taksi service for me, a taksi arrived in 3 minutes. I negotiated 2,000 TL ($73) and, within an hour, we arrived at my hotel. Note#1: as we departed Cesme, I tried to spot the Otogar and never saw it. How long would I have been walking in pain, aimlessly if I had not taken the taksi? Note#2: The sun was already beginning to set when I finished with the Port Authority, and I arrived at my hotel well after dark. That taksi fee was well worth the peace of mind. Note#3: dirth of toilets. The ONE Port Authority toilet was out of order, and I had read that the Otogar does not have a toilet. I am almost 60 years old: knowing toilet proximity is essential to my travel planning. Honestly, it could have been so bad had I followed the bad advice I had been given by locals.S4851LJsarahn

Super mooie stad zowel cesme als alacati! Prachtige straatjes! Minder toeristisch vooral turkse toeristen! En de mooiste zee! Helder blauw en ondiep!
