Stop At: Vision Walks - Eco Tours, 80 Jonson St, Byron Bay, New South Wales 2481 Australia
See platypus in their natural habitat.
It is possible to see platypus at any time of the day, but our best chance is just after dawn.
We pick you up from your Byron Bay accommodation and drive to the special platypus area. From there we start our 90-minute easy walk along the creek looking for platypus.
Your guide will lead you at a gentle pace, showing you what to look for and sharing insights about this much-loved and quirky Australian animal.
We usually see one or two platypus, loads of birds and sometimes even koalas. After watching the platypus have their breakfast we relax with ours – a picnic by the creek – before returning to Byron Bay.
We can’t guarantee platypus sightings on this tour, but don’t worry. If we don’t see them we take you on another day, free.

Wendy is a very knowledgeable guide. We had been looking for only a few minutes when we had our first sighting. Wendy knew exactly what to look for. After our platypus adventure, we had a delicious breakfast and then Wendy dropped us back at our accomodation. Fantastic morning!

Booked this tour last minute after Bluesfest was cancelled. Wendy picked us up early for our tour. She was super friendly and knowledgeable, giving us information and answering our questions about platypus on the drive there. Arrived at our surprisingly urban but picturesque destination. We spotted our first platypus within minutes of arrival. Wendy knows what to look for and has binoculars you can use if you need. The walk was easy on a solid path, enclosed shoes such as joggers/runners are adequate. We saw another platypus in the next pond along and had fun looking along the creek system. Once we determined the platypuses had gone back to bed we had a yummy breakfast with locally sourced produce. Really happy we went.Such a fantastic time! Walk was quite easy, pleasant and Wendy even moved it due to heavy rains without us contacting her (she must be psychic). We loved Wendy's passion, history and dedication and will be looking to do the virtual night tours she explained to us.Wendy is such a passionate and knowledgeable guide.
