Insightful, off the beaten track journey in a legendary 1970-1990’s Czechoslovak Škoda car (or a modern van by 4+ guests) with our local guide to the most intriguing spots of the Cold War era Bratislava.
Explore a vast concrete housing estate, the Soviet monument Slavín, post-industrial developments, the Iron Curtain border zone and loads of communist-era architecture. The tour brings alive the fascinating story of Bratislava in the turbulent 20th century.

- Please note that in some cases (winter conditions, car repairs etc.) we can not guarantee the retro car, but go with our green 1992 VW Caravelle or other newer vehicle.

We were picked up by our guide Lukas appropriately in a little red Skoda car and were driven around various post Russian occupation/ Communist relics of that era. We visited prefabricated housing apartments erected cheaply and quickly by the Russian (a reference to Lego Land was mentioned), an assembly park where a recently renovated and rejuvenated fountain was again in operation, a national cultural monument & military cemetery located on a hill overlooking Bratislava and across into Austria across the Danube River, the Slovakia/Austrian border and saw one of the bunkers installed as preparation to repel the Nazi WWII occupation. Lukas was very insightful and informative in regards to his perspective of the Post-Communist era. So pleased we elected to do this tour.adverb

We spent two nights in Bratislava en route Budapest from Prague. This was the perfect tour for our cathedral/castle weary brains. Our guide Maroš was terrific, really gracious and knowledgeable. We learned so much about the communist and post communist era, and about the region. The sites we visited were a thoughtful combination that well illustrated how the city and the people moved through the changes in regimes. And we got really great snacks!!Charlotte_D
