An amazing guide and experience in a beautiful national park that straddles Germany AND The Czech Republic (REMEMBER your passport/vaccination or other documentation - you cross the border and it may be asked for) The trip out to the park was about 35 min from central Dresden. I’d split the excursion into two main parts: Climb up to the arch - a nice walk up; it’s a good walk that we forged through almost too quickly - our guide Jan was constantly reminding me it’s not a race; so there is more than enough time to make it up with a more leisurely stride than mine. The fresh air and scenery helped moderate that a bit. Once up there - we took pictures and Jan took pictures of us along the way; it’s a great view and the bridge to the old fort has a LOTR vibe going. We stopped in the restaurant at the top for some beer (50/50 as recommended - DELISH!); then headed back down to go to the restaurant reserved for us for lunch. We remained a private tour, but met one of the other tour guide (William) and his charge who was from Italy and spoke great English despite his self-consciousness. Lunch was great; the goulash and chicken with risotto were both delicious (as was more beer!). Walk down to the gorge - another nice walk down; fortunately Jan had moderated me to a relaxed state (beer helped) and got to see pictures of a saint below the path we were on that others walked right by. The trail eventually led to the boat ride that would take you through the dammed portion of the tributary before it reached the Elbe. The boat ride was fun and while in Czech; Jan translated for us and it really is a mix between facts and whimsy. Rock formations were pointed out for different pop-culture characters (Jabba the Hut as one example) and everyone got a kick out of the boatsman that hammed it up as he poled us forward. It was a great day and I highly recommend Cayman for your tour needs; Jan took care of our every need and you’d be in good hands with him.
