Monteverde is one of the most important places in Costa Rica for birdwatchers, the Cloudforest and the other ecosistems that we have in the area give us the opportunity to see many different species of birds such as the Resplendent Quetzal, Three Wattled bellbird, beautiful tanagers, endemic species among others.

Jean Carlo is an amazing tour guide and birder. His tour was the best part of our trip to Costa Rica. Fantastic experience with the best bird guide around. He is so knowledgeable and interesting to talk to. Although we initially had trouble connecting, once we did, it was just a wonderful touring experience. Jean Carlos was a very competent bird watching guide. He took us though Curi Cancha Reserve and pointed out so many different birds, that we hardly could keep up with him. We would have never seen most of them without Jean Carlos. The Curi Cancha Reserve is well maintained and it was fun to walk the different trails. We spent almost 4 hours there and time went by so fast. We will definitely recommend Jean Carlos to our family and friends. Unfortunately road 606 going up to Monteverde is terrible!Our guide Carlos was fantastic, he picked us up on time, he was friendly and very knowledgeable. We saw 43 different spices of birds. My birdwatching tour with Jean Carlo Rodríguez was arranged on very short notice by my host in Monteverde who did not know him personally but phoned everyone he knew late in the evening. In the end I could not have been happier with his choice! Jean Carlo is not only an excellent tour guide but also the kindest and most helpful human being you can imagine. Starting at 6am in front of my hotel we waited for the rain to stop and Jean Carlo spotted at least 20 different bird species in the first hour - in a 100 meter radius. Some by view, some by ear. Of course he knows how to use Merlin/ebird - but he does not really need it. This guy knows them all by heart. Later we drove to El Refugio de Vida Silvestre. Very nice area, barely people around. We took our time trying to catch a glimpse of the Montezuma Oropendolas that we had heard up in the trees. We did not succeed but there was an abundance of feathered beauties anyway, including various hummingbirds, woodpeckers and warblers. In the ebird checklist that Jean Carlo shared with me, there were 62 species in the end. 6 hours of fun and learning - with an amazing "teacher". I joined another tour with Jean Carlo to the El Tigre Waterfalls, which was also beautiful though not exclusively bird-related. For the sake of completeness I would like to mention that (between those 2 tours) Jean Carlo saved my vacation by helping me get my credit card back. He sacrificed half a day for that.
