birds island
Overview
Sinaloa has an original mix of diverse habitats that include virgin beaches, mangroves and estuaries, mixed and coniferous forests. This diversity of ecosystems is inhabited by more than 400 species of birds, 35 of them endemic and 20 migratory that arrive from October to March. Some species can be seen on Isla de Pajaros, the third island from left to right.
Isla de Pajaros is less visited than Isla de Venados, but it is no less beautiful for that. In summer a waterfall forms on one side. The species that can be observed there are the white-winged pijije, the red-billed rabijunco, the brown booby, brown pelican, the brown heron and the blue-footed booby, among several others.

We had an amazing time kayaking and snorkeling around bird island in Mazatlán. The island is so beautiful. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the Island birds and marine life in the area. AOM made sure we had plenty of water and snacks as we kayaked. Would definitely recommend this trip to anyone who wants to get out on the ocean and learn a little more about the Mazatlán/Sinaloa area.My family and I recently decided to spend two weeks with friends in Mazatlan. My family and I recently decided to spend two weeks with friends in Mazatlan. The trip was top notch all around but when asking my family about their favorite part all agreed it was our time with Cesar on Bird Island. Our tour guide, Cesar was kind, energetic, and knowledgeable. The kayak experience was educational (Although my family has kayaked before the safety brief was exceptional), as was the tour of Birds island. Cesar expertly explained ecology, history, and biology with equal exuberance. I truly appreciated his stance on "take everything you brought and feel free to grab any trash you see." The kayaks, safety equipment, dry bags, paddles, etc. were all in excellent condition with the exception of an anti-fog valve missing in one snorkel mask (although this may have been my bad!). His patience and watchful eye while snorkeling created a calm and secure environment. And as a bonus he took photos the whole time so we can re-visit! When we rerun in the future this is a definite re-do for us. Thank you Cesar! We had a fun adventure paddling and snorkeling with Paul, our guide, and Hugo, who picked us up and took us to our appointment in Old Mazatlan afterwards. We had a fun adventure paddling and snorkeling with Paul, our guide, and Hugo, who picked us up and took us to our appointment in Old Mazatlan afterwards. Both Paul and Hugo bent over backwards to make sure we knew what we were doing and what we were seeing and ensure we had a wonderful day. We really enjoyed learning about the islands of Mazatlan, indigenous rituals, flora and fauna, etc. from Paul.I highly recommend this trip. I highly recommend this trip. There is nothing at bird island besides nature, which appealed to me more than deer island. But either way, you'd probably have fun. It was my husband and I and it was our first time both kayaking and snorkeling. Our guide was Caesar (hope I am spelling that right). He was fantastic. He made us feel very comfortable and he checked on us periodically to make sure we were fine. It was just the four of us and he let us dictate the pace since we were first timers. He also pointed out all the different birds, let us view with his binoculars, and explained a lot about the various plants and animals all around us. We kayaked from the beach over to the island. Once there, we hiked a little ways to a spot with very pretty, clear water. We decided to snorkel there. The water was cold, but once we got in and moved around a bit, it got better. We had some snacks and water after snorkeling, then hiked back to our kayaks and paddled back to the beach. You might want to take shoes that you can wear on rocky uneven terrain. I changed into Keens for the hiking part and was really glad I brought them. I wore board shorts over my suit and used the provided shirt for UV protection.Last February, we've been to Mazatlan with my fiance. Last February, we've been to Mazatlan with my fiance. All Over Mazatlan was the tourism agency that we provided us a tour to Island of Pajaros. (The Bird Island). The tour was sold to me and my fiance and I believe there were no other tickets sold that day. You would expect the tour to be cancelled due to low demand, but no. They provided us a guide and, we did the whole tour. With canoes, full mask snorkels and really good storytelling from the guide. 100% recommended.
