Fabulous tour! It seems a little pricey but it’s totally worth it!! Beautiful scenery and you’ll learn a lot! Tip... sit on the top floor on the sides for the best view of the show and the scenery.

This excursion was excellent. Not only did I get to see how the fishing took place but I witnessed hundreds of Bald eagles up close when the boat captain circled a certain place in the waterway and then began tossing handfulls of chopped up fish overboard and we watched the birds dive-bombing feeding themselves until they ran out of fish. Wow, what a sight it was to see!!!My husband and I have taken this tour twice from our NCL cruise. It is my husband favorite excursion. My husband and I have taken this tour twice from our NCL cruise. It is my husband favorite excursion. The guys are very good story tellers, talking about their past experiences. What I love is all of the educational information they give in their presentations. They are also very entertaining !! Listen closely to catch their jokes and puns. Getting to see how they pull in the traps and set them again is very interesting. They stop to feed eagles and it is a thrill to see the eagles dive in for the fish they throw out. On this trip we got to experience something I have been waiting many years to see - a humpback whale was bubble feeding right in front of our boat. This is not an expected occurrence to see on this tour, but it was spectacular to see so close. They stopped the boat and let us enjoy the sight!A brilliant way to learn the life of a Bearing sea fisherman. Great commentary from all of the very captivating staff... outstanding couple of hours.

This was by far my MOST favorite excursion that we did on our recent cruise. If you are a fan of Deadliest Catch this is a must. The Aleutian Ballad made news on the second season and you get to experience first hand crab fishing. You are seated in stadium seats where you can observe the deck hands as they launch and retrieve crab pots. There are heating units above you so you are never cold. There is a tank of various crab in the center and the crew tells about the crab and at a point in their talk you are invited to come down and hold a crab and have your picture taken. The crew also throws out "treats" for the seagulls and as we passed an island, they threw out bigger pieces which attracted the two eagles who live there. We got some great pictures as the eagles swooped in to get "lunch. There are restrooms on board and of course a gift shop which shows a clip of the Deadliest Catch when the Aleutian was hit by a rogue wave. While you are in the gift shop you can purchase refreshments including a box treat of King Crab Legs with melted butter to eat while you continue to listen to the story of crab fishing on the Bering Sea. Oh, if you are thinking you might get sea sick, you won't. I don't think we ever felt a rough movement of the ship~they don't take you out into rough waters. It was really cool to be on the actual boat after watching it on the TV show. It was really cool to be on the actual boat after watching it on the TV show. Everybody on the Aleutian Ballad was extremely knowledgable and had plenty of stories to tell. The eagles were amazing, as well as the crab in the tanks! I see some reviews on here that people are disappointed in the crew for not actually pulling up KING crab which is dumb, because Ketchikan is like the tropics of Alaska and the show was filmed in the bering sea which is much much much colder, so if you're reading this, understand that it would be physically impossible to pull pots with king crab in Ketchikan. I really loved how the boat was set up in terms of the different areas holding different types of pots and interactive details, that being said I wish we were allowed to explore the boat for just a bit longer on our own. One of the best tours in Ketchikan!
