Archaeologist-Led Cañada de La Virgen Pyramid Tour
Overview
I am a graduate of Louisiana State University and federally licensed tour guide. This special tour includes years of documented legends, wisdom & memories of the elders of the ranch communities on and around the historic location. You will hear about each place and its cultural significance as you journey along the path the ancients took to reach the pyramid.
I've taken 20, 000+ people on tours since the site opened to the public in 2011. My passion is relating information that is just coming to light in an area recently investigated in an enjoyable way. I hope to see you soon.

The best way to visit the Cañada de la Virgen is with an expert guide. Along the way, Albert will share his knowledge of cultures of the Bajio region, including the Otomi people and other Mesoamerican cultures. After visiting the Welcome Center, we will walk a total of approximately 3 kilometers (2 miles) together, taking the same path as the ancients. Albert will show you recent discoveries at the archaeological site and you’ll be able to climb to the top of the pyramid. Along the way, you will see the impressive landscapes as your mind goes on a journey. You will leave with a more thorough knowledge of this wonderful, historical site.

This was an excellent decision on my husband's part. Albert was so knowledgeable and funny. It was neat being able to see how private and non-commercialized this location is! The walk was manageable (though I highly recommend bringing a hat that will definitely stay on your head, a water bottle, and lots of sunscreen). You can take a bag onto the van that gets you to the central location, but you must leave all bags on the van when you head to the pyramid.Excellent archeologist guide. Interesting site. Be prepared to walk in the sun and climb narrow stone steps

Thoroughly enjoyable. The guide (formerly from Louisiana) was very knowledgeable and provided detailed historical context for what we were seeing. This made the adventure much more memorable since we learned how the ruins fit into the history of the region. It was our first time for such a guided tour and it was well worth it! Albert was very informative but much like a robot, he displayed no personality. Not much interaction with the group other than to impart facts of which he had a lot. He walked at a good clip far ahead of the participants & acted as if the tour was a chore for him rather than trying to pretend as though he was enjoying himself! The pyramid was amazing & we were glad we made the trek but I think Albert is burnt out and his delivery feels forced!
