This shore excursion of Hamburg starts directly in front of the cruise terminal. Our hosts will greet you when your ship docks and show you to a modern, air-conditioned bus. The journey takes 1.5-2 hours each way. An experienced local guide will meet you upon your arrival, share insight into the local history; and take you to the most prominent places in Hamburg. This Hanse City is not only the most beautiful port city in Germany but also the richest in the country. It was badly damaged by bombings during WWII but has become the second most exciting city in Germany next to Berlin! In the 1960’s the Star Club became famous as the Beatles venue and today the legendary nightlife area is famous for its bars and red light district. During the day, the area around the old city with its picturesque canals is one of the nicest high end shopping areas in all of Germany. The two lakes in the heart of the old city, the Binnen and Aussenalster give the city a natural aquatic beauty.

I wanted to write a positive review. I really did. On the positive side the local manager for the company putting on the tour was responsive in giving a partial refund due to the problems encountered. I organized this tour booking as an excursion when our ship stopped in Kiel and 8 others joined in. All 9 of us concurred that it was a disappointment. Some wanted a total refund but we settled for less. The tour was organized so that we were met by a driver who spoke no English and stayed in the parked van rather than waiting at the terminal with a sign as we were told. Once we found him we were off to Hamburg on time. The driver was not good and we were an hour late meeting our guide. After a potty stop we had a walking tour for 1.5 hours in downtown Hamburg and walked to the warehouse area where we waited 20 minutes for the van. It took us by the red light district and dropped us at the harbor for a one hour snack break. THAT WAS THE END of the tour! The guide said she was hired for 3 hours and that time was up. The van then made the 1.5 hour trip back to the ship.Very disappointed in this tour. We booked a 4 hour tour as my confirmation said with no time for lunch. Very disappointed in this tour. We booked a 4 hour tour as my confirmation said with no time for lunch. Both the tour operator and bus driver said they were only scheduled for 2 hours and then were suppose to drop us off in old town to shop and have lunch? They said they were given this tour months ago. They were both professional and nice but we didn't get what we were confirmed! I want my money back!Beautiful city. Tour was well organized and gave us plentiful time to see city. Thomas was knowledgeable and spoke with pride of his city . Will be coming back to explore more of Hamburg

Roughly passed many areas I was interested in stopping by and take some quick photos, we can barely see the view from the bus. Was bit disappointed but it’s understandable since our guide said the schedule was too tight to make stops. However, the guide dropped us off at a shopping area and said “you are free, you have 45 min” and left. We feel very disappointed since we could use the time to make very quick stops. I wouldn’t recommend this tour to others. The few times we got out of the bus were nice, but overall it was so boring I fell asleep. One group was escorted into a museum for about 10 minutes while the rest of us were left waiting for them.

Would have been nice to walk around the Reeperbahn or all the way through the underground tunnel rather than just see the entrance.
