Overview

What better way to spend the spooky season, than a walk in the ghostly footsteps of King Alfred the Great?

Led by an actor/comedian, bringing the haunted tales to life!

We will meet at the Buttercross, as darkness falls. Then see the site of the nation's last female public execution.

After we will visit the eerie ruins of Hyde Abbey, cemetery, and the actual resting place of England's first king.

Also see the haunted sites, and hear such grisly tales, of Winchester's High Street and Cathedral

15th Century Monument at the heart of Winchester. Savour the atmosphere. See tour first glimpse of Alfred the Great.

Dating from 1901 this impressive statue dominates the town. See Alfred in his Greatness! Imagine him coming to Life!

Pass By: Winchester Cathedral, 9 The Close, Winchester SO23 9LS England

World-famous Norman Cathedral final resting place of Kings and Queens (and Jane Austen). Sacked and nearly destroyed by Oliver Cromwell who left his ungodly mark.

Stop At: Winchester, Winchester, Hampshire, England

The Square: venue of the country's last bloody execution. Hear tell tale the tale. And look out!

St Peter's and the Catholic Martyrs. A time of darkness in the history of England. Deadly deads done for Saintly causes.


Stop At: Winchester, Winchester, Hampshire, England

Hyde Abbey: final resting place of Alfred the Great and other deposed souls. Feel the destruction to the site by Henry VIII. Hear the stories of those departed.

Really interesting tour and a very friendly host. Found out so much more about Winchester and the history of Alfred the Great than you get from just wandering around the city. It was also a good thing to do on an evening - filling in the time between dinner and pub really well.

Wonderful night tour, even though there was only two of us the tour still went ahead. We learnt so much about King Alfred and the history of Winchester, the guide was funny and very informative, we felt that we were in good hands and would definitely recommend this tour to others.
