Certified master captain Matt arrived in his 25’ Sailfish cruiser on time and everyone ooh’d and aah’d- the boat was fresh looking, well powered and equipped. We loaded our gear, boarded and were off in minutes. As we cruised the north and south parts of Roberts Bay, we were entertained by observations of the marine wildlife- birds, dolphin, manatee, as well as a number of historical and Sarasota particular facts about the marine area, architecture of the many varied residential and commercial buildings along the bay shores. The most important feature of the cruise, to adults as well as the kids, was the anchoring at the sandbar. It’s a well known feature in the bay, and yet we were easily able to anchor and everyone stepped off onto the bar. Capt. Matt had snorkeling gear, and very interesting sling floats that were the hit of the sandbar stop. Many shells were collected and even a spider crab was netted by one of the kids!! After about 90 minutes on the sandbar, we hauled anchors and did a bit more cruising, encountering a pod of dolphins on our way back to the dock, following along as they made their way through the water. We debarked at the dock, everyone happy that we made this trip with this captain. Matt provides water and Gatorade on ice, the aforementioned snorkeling and float gear; you should bring some food (snacks and /or lunch), sunscreen and towels. This is an excursion highly recommended for anyone visiting the Sarasota city or county area. Our family( 2 adults and 4 teens had an amazing day in the water with Capt Matt!
