Overview
In this tour, we will cover the 2 most popular parks in Kenya - Masai Mara National Reserve (2 nights) & Lake Nakuru National Park (1 night). Masai Mara is home for "Big Five" (elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos, and buffalo) & also zebras, antelope, hyenas, giraffes, African lions including black-maned lion. Lake Nakuru National Park is the biggest attractions are its huge flamingo population & Rhinos. Drawn by a special kind of algae, the bright pink flamingos flock to Lake Nakuru National Park in record numbers each year.

What to expect
Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara
Stop At: Maasai Mara National Reserve, Maasai Mara National Reserve, Rift Valley Province
Transfer from Nairobi to Masai Mara and Evening Game drives in Masai Mara.
Your tour starts with pick up at 7:30 AM from your Nairobi hotel or Airport and drive towards Masai Mara. This drive will take about 5 to 6.5 hours with a scenic stopover at Great Rift Valley. Arrive in Masai Mara shortly afternoon and check into your lodge/camp, have hot lunch and then depart for an afternoon game drive.
After the game drive, we head back to lodge/camp to reach by around 5:30 or 6:00 PM, freshen up and enjoy a freshly prepared Dinner. Overnight at your lodge.
Note: The last 1-hour drive to Masai Mara is on the corrugated and bumpy road and may not be comfortable for clients with back problems. Clients with back problems can consider flying directly to (and out of) Masai Mara.

Day 2: Masai Mara
Stop At: Maasai Mara National Reserve, Maasai Mara National Reserve, Rift Valley Province
Full-Day game drives in Masai Mara
Today's itinerary is flexible and you can discuss it with your guide on the previous evening and plan for today's schedule.
You can either have a relaxed breakfast and depart for a full day game drives around 9:00 AM with packed lunch and return back to lodge late afternoon around 6:00 PM. Or you can depart at 6:00 AM on an early morning game drive (This is the best time to see the animals and a good chance to witness hunt/kill). Later return to the accommodation for breakfast and relax for a bit and depart on an afternoon game drive with packed lunch. you will stop at a picnic spot for having packed lunch and later depart on a game drive till the park is closed. Around 6:00 PM return to lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Masai Mara to Lake Nakuru
Stop At: Maasai Mara National Reserve, Maasai Mara National Reserve, Rift Valley Province
Morning game drives in Masai Mara and transfer to Lake Nakuru.
Wake up early in the morning and have a short morning game drive in Masai Mara. Return to Camp/Lodge for Breakfast and around 10:00 AM checkout and Depart to Lake Nakuru National Park which is about 6.5 hours drive. Upon reaching Nakuru lodge check-in, have dinner and relax for the day.
Note: Depending on your itinerary, location of the lodge in Nakuru and plan for the next day(if going to Amboseli for example), we might skip morning game drives in Masai mara this day and proceed to Nakuru directly to reach by around 2:00 PM and do afternoon game drives in Nakuru.

This was my 2nd itinerary with Monkey Adventures (first was Kilimanjaro and Tanzania safari pre-Covid), and they lived up to the excellent quality and service we received the first time. One of the things I love about Monkey is they allow you to customize every aspect of the itinerary. We personally chose the hotels in both Masai Mara (Amani Mara camp - HIGHLY recommend) and Lake Nakuru (recommend), added in a village cultural visit in the Masai Mara and an additional day at the end of our itinerary visiting the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage (highly recommend) and Giraffe Center (recommend) and an upgrade to the Land cruiser (well worth it). Monkey handled all of these customizations professionally and easily. Communication with their team was excellent throughout. We were never in any doubt as to exactly what was happening, when and the cost. The detailed online itinerary they provided explains exactly what is included / excluded, drive times etc, all of which proved to be accurate. Our guide was Roger, who was fantastic. He was a great driver - easily covering some of the roughest terrain, a friendly host (explaining the history, politics and geography of the areas we passed through, and most of all - an amazing wildlife expert. With so many game drives planned we were wondering if they would be repetitive - but they were not at all. Roger ensured that each game drive was unique and managed to find new wildlife experiences each time. The Land Cruiser was very comfortable for long drives and easily fit 5 of us plus luggage. I do recommend the Masai Mara / Lake Nakuru combination. In the Masai we saw most of the wildlife we wanted - Elephants, Giraffes, Buffalo, Wildebeest, Antelopes (many different kinds), lions, leopards, Warthogs, Zebras, baboons etc, whereas Lake Nakuru rounded out the experience with Rhinos, monkeys and other species of giraffes. If I was doing the itinerary again I would add an additional night at both Amani Mara and the Cliff so we could have some downtime and enjoy the hotels more. Incredibly positive experience throughout and I will use Monkey Adventures again next time.R4539PErobertn

We did a 4-day safari with Monkey Adventures. Two days in Maasai Mara and the other two days consisting of Lake Nakuru and Lake Naivasha. Our group of four had a Toyota Landcruiser 4x4 driven and guided by the infamous Black Rhino himself, Tony. We originally made plans to do a Kenyan safari back in 2020 but due to the pandemic our plans were postponed two years later. Monkey Adventures was very accommodating and thorough with my safari credits. Over two years of email communications we were able to finalize our safari to begin on 8/28/2022. Tony, our safari guide made our trip worth it. This man had such a crazy sense of humor that we all enjoyed. He had a lot of jokes and we could not tell if he was serious at time or not. He has a keen on spotting wildlife with ease all while we're still struggle with our binoculars. He was able to get us on the Big 5 plus the elusive Serval cat. We had a lot of questions for Tony, and he was utmost patient to answer everything we had. We hope we did not make you feel uncomfortable at times, Tony! We're are just a little crazy and weird in the head. Tony also taught us many Swahili phrases too. We used what we learned from Tony throughout Kenya and we had a great time mingling with Kenyans with our newly acquired Swahili skills, worked very well at bars and other places of fun evening activities. HOWEVER: Skip the Maasai Village visit! It's a total scam. AVOID at all costs! If you want to enjoy an unforgettable African game drive AND have a great time on the road - Ask for Tony, the Black Rhino to be your guide!
