What to expect
Lake Mapourika’s calm reflective waters are home to many fish such as Trout and Wild Salmon. Enjoy fishing on our comfortable full covered tour boat, with toilet facilities and warm refreshments onboard. Experience the beauty of Lake Mapourika while trolling silently past 900-year-old Kahikatea trees and Native Birdsong while you wait for a nibble on the line!
Fishing techniques include trolling, harling and spinning. You may keep your catch if it’s legal and in season, otherwise, we will catch and release.
All fishing equipment is provided, and no experience is necessary.

I recently did the fishing charter on Lake Mapourika with a group of friends. The weather and scenery were amazing and we even got to see one of the local white herons basking in the sunshine. Dale, our skipper was awesome - very knowledgeable and nothing was too much trouble. There was something for everyone in our group on this 3hr tour. Fishing for salmon and trout, paddle boarding and taking a dip in the Lake whilst enjoying the amazing backdrop. Highly recommend this trip!!What a lovely way to start the day! We had such a cool time fishing on Lake Mapourika! Dale was our awesome host & was a legend for picking us up & dropping us off from our accommodation in Franz Josef. He was a wealth of knowledge for the area and had some great chat, fishing gear and even better boat for fishing off. We caught 4 salmon and one big brown trout trolling and spinning off the boat. He cooked up the trout for us, and made sashimi with the first salmon which you can’t get any fresher, sending us home with the rest. The White Heron on the lake are also real bonus treat to see and the 3 hours went by too fast. Thanks again for the tour Dale!! 11/10 recommendationSuch a fantastic trip in a great setting - the lake was still warm enough to swim in at 7pm! Dale and his brother were super friendly and went out of their way to make the trip a memorable one - and catching the brown trout at the end was the icing on the cake! Highly recommended!
