We were picked up at our hotel by Jorge and Anthony, who were both friendly and on time. We then made a quick stop to pick up Johan. Anthony was our driver and Jorge and Johan our guides. After picking up the rest of the guests we headed for the Hanging Bridges tour. I was amazed at the knowledge the guides had as to where the animals could be found. We saw snakes, bats, spiders, birds, monkeys, and so many beautiful plants and animals. After that we headed for the La Fortuna Waterfall - be prepared for 500 steps up and down, but well worth the visit. Some of the guests swam, but we took a quick break at the top (after the 500 step climb) for the best mojito we tasted in Costa Rica. After this we had a lovely lunch in Los Angeles, a small town near La Fortuna. We were starving and the food was awesome. During the tours, our guides were especially helpful in allowing us to get good pictures and to make sure we all had a chance to see everything. After lunch, we were dropped back at our hotel. Thank you so much to Jorge, Johan, and Anthony for making our day so much fun and so interesting. Thoroughly recommend the tour.Costa Rica is a beautiful country, the local people are incredibly friendly and helpful by large and are patient and understanding of limited Spanish. Costa Rica is a beautiful country, the local people are incredibly friendly and helpful by large and are patient and understanding of limited Spanish. REALLY great country, and tours. The waterfall, personally, to me is highly overrated, but others liked it. The hanging bridges were fantastic. The country, the guides the food and the coffee are top notch. Go to Costa Rica - you won’t regret it. I simply do not have enough good things to say about it. I have been travelling for many many years and I can say with absolute conviction that NO AMOUNT OF MONEY, TIME OR EFFORT WILL EVER CONVINCE ME TO USE ANYWHERE.COM AGAIN. I HAVE PHOTOS OF FILTHY HOTEL, CONSTRUCTION AT THE NEXT HOTEL ALL DAY LONG, LAST MINUTE HUGELY EXPENSIVE HOTEL FEES TO GET OUT OF A REALLY BAD, FREEZING COLD FILTHY DIRTY (FILTHY SHEETS, TOWELS, ROOM, FRIDGE, ETC.) AT MY OWN COST, REALLY BAD SERVICE (had to wait overnight Christmas Eve in a dirty frozen hotel until Harold got to work the next day), LACK OF RESPONSE, MEANINGLESS APOLOGIES AND IF YOU ASK TO SPEAK TO SENIOR MANAGEMENT, IT IS SO FAR IGNORED. NO RESPONSE. NO OFFER FOR ANY COMPENSATION. I WILL NOT USE THEM AGAIN EVER.We booked this tour via Anywhere.com. We were picked up promptly by a driver and dedicated guide. We booked this tour via Anywhere.com. We were picked up promptly by a driver and dedicated guide. This was a small group tour, perfect in size - not too big. The best part of the day was, without a doubt, the Hanging Bridges tour. After a full week in Costa Rica, I would say that the Arenal Hanging Bridges tour is a 'must' when visiting this beautiful country. Our guide was very professional. After the Hanging Bridges we were taken to an off-the-beaten-path tiny village for a typical Costa Rican lunch at a family-run establishment. This was awesome and "real" - not the touristy lousy lunch I had expected. Following lunch, we did the hike to the La Fortuna Waterfall. This was the weak point in the tour. It was beautiful, but I'm not sure it justified all the steps to get down and go back up. If another activity were offered in the afternoon to complement the Hanging Bridges, I might suggest that instead. We did the hanging bridges and Fortuna waterfall as well as the Don Juan chocolate tour Edgar was a great driver, relaxed, friendly and efficient, we had Tony initially who can spot a sloth at 100m from a moving vehicle - he is amazing and knows everything about the flora and fauna in Costa Rica...
We did the hanging bridges and Fortuna waterfall as well as the Don Juan chocolate tour Edgar was a great driver, relaxed, friendly and efficient, we had Tony initially who can spot a sloth at 100m from a moving vehicle - he is amazing and knows everything about the flora and fauna in Costa Rica. We then could use his scope on a tripod to see the creature up close. For the Hanging bridges and waterfall tours we had Hansel, who was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and good fun to be around. The hanging bridges tour had magnificent views and the bridges were not as scary and I had anticipated, they felt really safe. The waterfall was magical, and you can swim near the base of it, very beautiful. Once we had dried off, we were taken to the family restaurant, really tasty authentic food, with great service in a scenic setting on the river, with a bird table populated by tropical birds nearby to look at Next up was the chocolate tour That was a lovely way to end an great day, we were shown the grounds, told about the history of chocolate, different kinds of cocoa plants, but the best bit was we made a chocolate drink that the Aztecs made, and helped with a stage of making chocolate Alberto was a brilliant guide for us, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. We would recommend all of the above tours to anyone visiting the area, so much in one day!My wife and I had the pleasure of taking a tour with Edgar and Hans today of 2 beautiful areas, the Hanging Bridges and Waterfall near La Fortuna. My wife and I had the pleasure of taking a tour with Edgar and Hans today of 2 beautiful areas, the Hanging Bridges and Waterfall near La Fortuna. Edgar was a great driver, host and shared a fabulous lunch cooked by his wife. Both him and Hans had keen eyes to spot wildlife, stopping en route to our tour locations to share a sloth sighting as well as an up close encounter with a beautiful yellow throated toucan. On the Hanging Bridges tour Hans continued to find and share close encounters with many birds, bats, a tarantula and a very close experience with an Eyelash Viper. We had near misses for both Howler monkey and Spider monkey sightings (wildlife is wild and doesn’t always cooperate). We were always safe and Hans accomodated my wife’s fears of heights making the Hanging Bridges tour a reality for her (she thought she would not be able to do). The walk up from the waterfall was also low pressure, stopping when needed for breaks. We learned much as the knowledge shared was vast. Our guides were patient, friendly, knowledgeable and funny. We had a blast and highly recommend Rainforest Explorers to anyone looking to have fun and learn about this fabulous area.My boyfriend & I bought the tour at Viator.com. My boyfriend & I bought the tour at Viator.com. Our tour guide Hancel & Our Driver Edgar picked us up at our air bnb @7am to begin the day! What a wake up call! They were promptly on time and even asked if we’d like to stop for coffee which I needed badly. We then went to the rainforest first & were joined by another couple. Hancel on the way started to inform us about our itinerary. If you think this tour is too expensive trust me don’t be a penny pusher it’s very well worth it. Apparently, the tour guides go to school for what they do which means that they are truly informed and the best part they live in the area! Hancel spoke very good English even though we both are fluent in Spanish. He guided us in both languages! He’s also a great character & very informative. Answers all your questions which means he has patience for this type of work! Haha Edgar is a great driver! (Insider: He use to drive trucks!) He had to go get our lunch together so we had Miguel driving who was also really good on the road. The hanging bridges were beautiful and safe! On the way up and down to the hanging bridges we saw animals! We even saw a tucan! Hancel knows how to take pictures from far of these beautiful animals, it’s a secret how until you book this tour! Then we did the waterfall! Those stairs going down are easy, going up is not a joke & you should take breaks in between! Then we eat! Lunch was at a great location like an outdoor cafeteria! The food is amazing & fresh. Do have the coffee!!! Edgar’s wife cooks & makes coffee old school! You can buy beer these & refreshments. Water is free on the shuttle van! Off to the volcano hike which seems bad at first due to the steps you have to take up but trust me everything is easier than those 300 steps up from the waterfall! HOT SPRINGS! We did Tabacon hot springs! Had dinner already paid for! Buffet style! & then Edgar picked us up promptly a few hours later! Hours: 8am - 9pm Family owned business with lots of character & if you rather be in small controlled groups book them! They have spacious comfortable A/C vans! They make you feel like you’re part of their family! Familia! I actually miss them! Never said that about any tour guides!
