Got to try a wide variety of street snacks from Lassi to pani purri to Jaleebi to papaad. Ghanesh and Nivi are awesome down-to-earth guides. It's not a fixed commercial experience, instead I heard them arguing which stall is better. They also see what's available on the go and asked if I have any bucket list for food wanted to try. Where options are available, they will bring you to more established places for hygienic assurance. They also asked the hawker to remake the papaad so I can see the process; instead of taking off from piles where flies could have sit on. When we entered a nuts store, I can also tell that they did some bargaining for me. Overall it's a very assured experience. The food street walk in Chennai is an eye opener. You get not only South Indian but also snacks from all parts of India. It's a one stop place for taste of India! I would highly recommend for foodies who like to taste local food while traveling.

This was my first experience of Chennai (and India as a whole) so was a little daunted, but this was a great introduction. Ganesh was a great guide through the bustling Sowcarpet neighbourhood. You definitely need to have an empty stomach on this tour - the street food was amazing, and we tried many different dishes over the tour, I just wish I could have eaten more. This was very much a locals area, so was a great experience seeing everyday life - even with the sudden downpour (hiding under a shop cover with the locals). The final stop of tea and cake was a perfect refreshing finish to the tour - watching the craziness of Chennai traffic. This ended up being a private tour. As a solo traveller its often difficult to find tours that don't insist on a minimum of 2 or more people, or where you end up as the odd-one-out in large coach groups, so this made a great difference. This was the first of three tours I did through 5 Senses Tours (also Chennai City Tour, and Mahabalipuram tour), and would definitely recommend them.Omg the food is fantastic! First things first ask for Nivi. She’s amazing. If Nivi orders something for you, trust her and eat it. It’s going to be so good. She makes sure you’ve had enough to eat, and it’s all so delicious. Abbas and a driver picked me up and dropped me off at my hotel. Really appreciated that option as I didn’t want to try finding the meeting spot on my own. Smart choice as Chennai traffic and pedestrians are a sight to behold! Abbas was a wonderful guide, so kind, knowledgeable and fun! We went to probably six unique local hotspots for street food. The food was delicious, fun flavors, unlike anything I’ve had before. Very enjoyable!
