What to expect
Go horseback riding in Guanacaste to explore the tropical dry forest that’s home to howler monkeys, spider monkeys, whiteface capuccin monkeys, Two-Toed Sloths, iguanas, agoutis, among others. If the conditions are right, we may visit an old banana plantation house with views to the Salinas Bay. This 2-hour horseback ride includes bottled water, safety equipment, and round-trip transport from select hotels in La Cruz.

We did the 2 hour horseback riding tour with Jonathan. It was an excellent tour and just a short 25 minute drive from our resort (Dreams Las Mareas). The horses were in good shape, not starved like you see in many other locations, and were well trained; they were ready to follow in a line or would follow your commands if you wanted to do something different. Our visit was at the beginning of June and the place was empty. There was one other couple doing an ATV tour and we were the only couple doing the horseback tour at the time. Being so private, it allowed us to tour through the jungle instead of staying in the fielded area. We saw a sloth, heard howler monkeys and had a whole family of spider monkeys fly through the trees directly overhead. The horses at Hacienda El Cenizaro are very well cared for, and the ranch is beautiful with spectacular views of the ocean. Our recent horseback riding excursion with Jonathan was great fun! The horses at Hacienda El Cenizaro are very well cared for, and the ranch is beautiful with spectacular views of the ocean. Jonathan was very personable and knowledgeable, and has a great sense of humor. And as an extra bonus, we also got a chance to see howler monkeys, spider monkeys, and a sloth on our ride. My Husband I visited Dreams Las Mareas Costa Rica for a quick business trip. We have an 18 month old so we could not extend the trip for some extra time to enjoy this beautiful country and see all it has to offer. My husband had to attend morning meetings so we had few options for excursions that the resort offers. But one thing I absolutely had to do was go horseback riding in Costa Rica. We had it all set up and my husband's meeting overlapped our departure time to ride. Miguel with Amstar contacted Jonathan with Hacienda El Cenizaro and made adjustments so we could still do a horseback tour! They were so helpful and so sweet to us even though it was probably an inconvenience to them. We met with Jonathan and he took my husband and me on a horseback ride we will never forget. He was so informative, funny, helpful, patient, so smart and kind. Jonathon took photos of us let us take breaks so we could see the native animals and all the many monkeys swinging from the trees! I can not say enough great things about this adventure, but I will say I highly recommend checking out this awesome journey. Ask for Jonathan, but I'm sure everyone is great!
