What to expect
Day 1: Guilin - Xingping. Your 2-day biking adventure begins in Guilin, where your guide will be waiting for you with the bikes
Stop At: Li River, East of Guangxi Zhuang China
Today, you will cycle a total of approx. 20 miles (32 km) beginning with a ride out of the city alongside the bamboo-lined Li River and through the peaceful village of DaXu. See displays of local rural life as you ride along charming old streets.
Stop at the village of CaoPing and have lunch at a local restaurant (included) where we'll feast on seasonal local specialities. After lunch we have some climbing to do! The rewards are spectacular as we take mountain roads high over the Li River and surrounding karsts for expansive views. After our intial climb the cycling gets much easier as we fly down newly built roads and along a wide valley of rice fields before emerging in Xingping town. Xingping is an old Ming Dynasty era village and boasts some fine streets worth exploring to see architecture that is rapidly disappearing in China. We stay tonight in a secluded hotel and eat tonight in the old town.
Stay: Water & Cloud Inn
Duration: 6 hours
Stop At: Daxu Old Town, Daxu Old Street, Guilin China
The Daxu Old Town (大圩古镇) is situated on the east bank of the Li River, 23 km (14.3 miles) southeast of Guilin City. With a history of more than 1000 years, the town was originally built in the early Northern Song Dynasty (960-1126) and ranked No. 1 of the four renowned ancient towns in Guangxi Province as early as 600 years ago.

In the morning, we'll cycle along the Li River as started. Test your endurance on a 3-mile (5-km) uphill climb to reach a high point with picturesque aerial views of the Li River and the sublime karst scenery.
Follow your guide for 10 more miles (17 km) to the town of Baisha. Here, visit a local market selling a variety of fresh produce. As you continue toward Yangshuo, ride alongside the striking Yulong River, a small tributary of the Li River, and see the ancient Dragon Bridge and Fuli Bridge.
For more adrenaline-filled fun, stop for a 20-minute hike to Moon Hill, featuring remains of a limestone cave, to enjoy wonderful panoramic views of the countryside. A great little trip through a rapidly disappearing countryside. We had a wonderful guide named Farmer Tang and he was great with history, culture and local customs. The food stops were really good and there was plenty of water for the ride. Tang was also very perceptive and saw that us sixty year olds were not as spry on the hills as a twenty some rider. We went on a little easier track but still saw plenty of what we came to see. One suggestion would be to request a gel seat if you have a habit of getting saddle sore!
This was a terrific trip. It can be difficult to get away from city life in China, and these guys are experts at taking you out into the Chinese countryside, to explore a more traditional way of life.

This was a terrific trip. It can be difficult to get away from city life in China, and these guys are experts at taking you out into the Chinese countryside, to explore a more traditional way of life.
The whole trip was very thoughtfully planned, from which routes we took, to where we stopped and ate, to the hostel we stayed in.
If you're not a regular cyclist, make sure you wear cycling shorts, as the roads can be bumpy. But the guides are brilliant at judging the pace of the group and adjusting things accordingly.
Looking forward to booking another biking trip soon.
