Stop At: Hue Imperial City (The Citadel), Hue Vietnam
Imperial city is the second round inside the Citadel. This complex is 3600 square metres, includes over 50 constructions which was built by Kings of Nguyen dynasty.
It takes at least 2, 5 hours to go around.
This tour traces the history of the Nguyen dynasty from its earliest days to the last when Bao Dai king announced his abdication.
You also get the understanding about the design and architecture of my entire beautiful city that did by the founder of Nguyen Dynasty - Gia Long.
Hearing stories about royal life in the Forbidden City as you traverse the temples, buildings, and residences.

We booked this tour of the imperial palace with Matthew and ended up loving him so much that we booked him to continue that afternoon and take us to two ancient tombs and the oldest pagoda. Matthew’s English was fantastic and he is extremely knowledgeable about the history of Vietnam and Hue. He is also really flexible and easy to work with - meeting him was easy and he kindly brought two bottles of cold water. The city is incredible- so beautiful and rich with history and culture; we experienced all that because of Matthew. Our only regret is that we only had 1 full day in Hue with Matthew. I wish we had had 3 full days in Hue with him (there is that much to see here and he is so knowledgeable). Anyone who is interested in learning about the history of Vietnam and/or Hue should book one full day tour with Matthew, and ideally two or three if you can. I already can’t wait to come back to finish the city with Matthew. We booked short notice as we wanted to do a full day tour but couldn't due to some illness in the morning. We felt better by 10am and messaged Matthew not expecting him to be able to help us, within a few minutes he had replied and said he can do 12:30. We met Matthew and he greeted us with some cold bottles of water. He found out our interests and how much we knew so he could cater for us best. As we walked round he stopped in shaded areas and pointed out things we would of totally missed had we not had a tour with him. He explained in depth in perfectly clear English the history of Vietnam and the imperial city. We've been in Vietnam 2 weeks and tried to take in some of the history but often got confused by all the King's, how the French were involved and had many questions. Matthew explained it perfectly and I now feel I can go back home to England and explain some of the history behind Vietnam. Highly recommend this tour if you want an intimate, personalised look at Vietnamese history and culture. Loved every second and will rememeber this tour for a long time.
