Stop At: Casa Alberto, c/de las Huertas, Madrid Spain
After discovering Spain’s art scene, it’s time to delve into its literary history. On a guided stroll through the Literary Quarter, learn about the authors, poets, and playwrights who once walked these very paths. Then, discover one of Madrid’s traditional aperitifs at a century-old tavern nestled in the side streets of the area.

Stop At: Botín, C. de Cuchilleros, 17, 28005 Madrid, Spain
Next, it’s time for a veritable Spanish feast! Step past the long lines forming outside before the restaurant even opens its doors. Your guide will show you the cave beneath the restaurant, which was part of a tunnel system that once spread underneath Madrid, and take you behind the scenes of the historic kitchen where 300-year-old ovens make time-perfected recipes. Finally, sit down for a three-course meal and feast on specialties such as chicken and ham croquettes and Botín’s signature roast suckling pig.

Our guide Rosita was great and very knowledgeable. At the Prado Museum, She showed us all the important paintings with dates and explanation of each art work. It was so fascinating to hear all the amazing facts and stories about the artists, their background and his expressions through each painting. Then on to the oldest tapas bar and pub from the 1800s still in business today! We had vermouth and tapas - olives and chicharones. Then the highlight the was tour of El Botin Restaurant - the oldest restaurant since the 1700's still in business today using the same wood burning stove. We had a tour of the kitchen and wine cellar, and got to sit where Hemingway (the author) used to sit and dine. Their specialty is the cuchinillo -suckling pig and the lamb. This tour was the Best highlight of our trip to Madrid! Rosita was awesome!!We had a great tour with Alfonso. Don't visit the Prado Museum without him! We had a great tour with Alfonso. Don't visit the Prado Museum without him! There was so much that we would have just walked past and missed if it were not for Alfonso. While we only focused on approximately 7 pieces at the museum, we deep dived into those pieces, the artists, and the context for the work. I felt like I had a much stronger understanding of Spanish art and history after the tour. Alfonso then led us through literary square explaining the history of the neighborhood and helped us identify landmarks and placards/signs throughout the area. He also showed us how to order vermouth (delish). We did a tour of Botin, the oldest continuously working restaurant in the world, and had a delicious meal (wine, artichoke with Iberico ham, croquettes, suckling pig, and Basque cheesecake). This tour is a complete scam, they will steal your money DO NOT BOOK. they will not refund you even though the tour is a scam.

Our guide Arantxa met us in front of the Prado and gave a wonderful tour using the art to show the history of Spain. We then walked to the Bothin Restaurant learning more history along the way. Arantxa is as knowledgeable about food as history and so was a perfect person to guide us through our meal. The restaurant was fascinating, and while suckling pig and lamb will not be our favorite foods of Spain we appreciated them in their context!
