In the midst of the array of different Panda Tours, Jay's Pandayak tours, was the best choice. Decided to take the Dujiangyan site, got picked up at the hotel I was staying at, by Jay, and during the 1.5 hour drive there, he was professional, interesting, and informative about Pandas and the history in China. At the site, chose to be a Panda Keeper (additional donation but so worth it!), and got to clean the Panda quarters, make Panda cakes, and be up close and personal with Pandas, that the public cannot. I even got to feed a Panda two times, once in the morning and then again in early afternoon. It was an amazing experience and also got to eat with the staff of the site in their canteen, real local Sichuan food. Overall, Jay was amazing, allowed as much time to enjoy the Panda Base, and then headed back to our hotel. Know that when buying this option tour, its very personalized, there is no one else, just you and your friends and family. it was a pleasant surprise as I thought we were going to be with others. Book ahead of time, and Jay made it so easy with his contact information, so there was no worry in confirming and communicating with him as he had options of WeChat, facebook, email, etc. I just went on this tour last week, and can only give my best choice for the Panda tours that I looked at, to Jay. The cost was fully worth every penny, and Jay's tour I highly recommend without any reservation! Jeff NVolunteered at the centre on 21 September 2019. Volunteered at the centre on 21 September 2019. Excited before the trip as it would be my first up-close encounter with the endangered species. Could not sleep well like a kindergarten kid waiting for the school outing on the following morning. Jay, leader of our volunteering group, a young and energetic English-speaking Sichuen gentleman, met us at our lodging at the appointed time in the early morning. He explained with patience all the need-to-know during the 90-minute drive from city centre. Of course, Jay also took the opportunity to play a tourist guide role by introducing the history and culture of the areas. A very educational drive. Our volunteering chores started with an induction session with the centre staff who gave us all the Do's and Don'ts regarding the encounter with giant pandas. Our first task, believe it or not, was to clean up the leftover of dinner of previous night inside the panda enclosure, i.e. taking out bamboo sticks out of the enclosure, clean the activity area, i.e. picking up poo (believe it or not, they do not smell at all due to the diet!), and replenished new bamboo. Ensuring hygiene within the enclosure is important to the healthy living of the animal. We repeated the same cycle in the afternoon - did not realise until then that giant pandas do require lot of food to sustain their functioning. We were also given a unique up-close encounter with panda by feeding one of them some snacks twice the day. Bamboo is not nutritional rich and therefore the centre has to give them other snacks to supplements, more popular are carrot and apple. Regardless, we learned that the pandas' favourite is a bread-like stuff called wowo (窩窩). We went into the kitchen and lent a hand to prepare some. On top of all these, we were shown a very informative documentary on the overall efforts in enabling captive pandas to return to the wilderness. Not an easy task and my hat off to those who have been contributing to the meaningful endeavour. Jay has been very helpful all along. A very eye-opening and educational experience about giant pandas. Reading literatures or watching documentaries on media are not comparable to sweating and bleeding (literally) for these animals. A trip to Chengdu would not be a complete one without spending a meaningful day at the panda base.Excellent day , wonderful time , and perfect guide Sean , thank you again for the drive , the informations & thé smile !

I absolutely loved the trip!!! I was debating whether to spend the money on feeding the Panda. Finally decided to do it and couldn’t be happier with my decision. Sean was great from start to finish. Really helpful, spoke great English (kinda rare in Chengdu), and took great pictures. He made sure I was satisfied with every step of the tour. Dujiangyan was worth the extra drive as the setting was quieter and could enjoy the views without the crowds. There’s a lot of old information out there about where you can and can’t feed the pandas. As of this writing, Dujiangyan is the only place. So I f you are debating doing this tour, my recommendation would be to go and ask for Sean! This is such a wonderful experience, highly recommended, tour guide were professional and knowledgeable and thoughtful. Tai Shan is here who was born in DC National Zoo.
