I took the following tour with Rigo and loved it. On this tour you will visit a National Park that is less touristy then others which allows you to really be alone with Costa Rica's wildlife. My thanks to my guide Rigo who took the time to explain to me about the different spices he really knew his stuff. I would recommend this tour.

We started the tour in Carara Park where we could see lizards, birds, black frogs and other wild animals. After that we went to the Tarcoles river where we could see a lot of water birds and several crocodiles of diferents sizes and ages. Sadly we could not go into the mangroves because of the low tides. It was a really nice day and like always with Oropopo, the guide Rigo was eagerd to explain and answer everything that we asked. By the end we even had time to bath on the ocean while we waited for the lunch to be prepared

Rigo was a wonderful guide for our tour. The moment our tour began, we were welcomed with enthusiasm and knowledge. Carara National Park was our first stop where we viewed birds, reptiles, insects, floral and fauna. The strength of our tour was witnessed by the size our tour which was just 2 people compared to the other tours of dozens in the group. We could ask individual questions and experience the tour in a more personal way. Our next stop was a boat ride on the Tarcoles River. Many varieties of birds were viewed on the river and Pacific Ocean. A few crocodiles were present and we always felt safe. The tour ended on the Pacific Ocean with a tasty traditional lunch. We highly recommend this tour.

Well structured tour hosted by Rigo, who knew a lot about the flaura and fauna in the park. He was very easy to talk to and approachable which made the experience easier. Would highly recommend!

Oropopo Experience gets big applause for effecting my refund that Viator rejected. The price Viator charged was $125! over the listed price with a vague explaination devoid of any details. I was disappointed with the guide. He seemed to rely too much on the other guides with poor results. I felt that I could do just as well on my own by paying the entrance fees. Boat tour, "river adventure", was filled with birding action and crocs. Go early morning with a higher tide.

l had an amazing day with Rigo. He is a very enthusiastic person, he says hello to everyone and makes you feel at home. Rigo is very knowledgeable with his information, his admiration for birds made me love them even more. He introduced me to some monkeys, crocodiles, variety of birds, frogs, lizards, iguanas, many many female ants! Im still trying to wrap around all the information he provided with me. He is very well versed in trees/ fungus/ moss, and is an all around nature lover. I recommend this company for anyone traveling. Hosts are great, accommodating and really good vibes.

Amazing tour! I would recommend to anyone who wants to see the beautiful nature of Costa Rica. Rigo, my guide was so knowledgable and friendly. I also booked their Wild San Jose tour, which was also amazing. I’ll definitely book with Oropopo again next time I visit Costa Rica!

I had an amazing time on a tour with Rigo of Carara National Park and Tarcoles. He was so knowledgeable and the energy of the tour felt more like a friend or family member showing you around than a tour guide. I learned so much about the forest, and got close up with birds and crocodiles! I’d recommend this group to anyone :)

This tour is truly exceptional! The communication beforehand was excellent, and Rigo and his colleague Nanuka picked me up perfectly on time. I was lucky to have my own private tour as a solo traveller and I felt just as much as travelling with friends, as tourist and guides so a really nice experience. We stopped at a shop on the way and Rigo gave me a coconut to drink from and shared some coconut cookies around, a lovely way to start the day and then we went hiking around the National park. He asked me what I’d love to see, I mentioned toucans - he managed my expectations they are hard to spot, and then only went and found us a few up a tree near the end of the trail! We also saw howler monkeys, a woodpecker, a puffer bird, a dart frog, spider, cicada, leaf cutter ants. Rigo is really great at spotting the wildlife, I’d have been oblivious to it all walking through the park alone and his telescope helps get a great view, and he also gives you binoculars so you can spot things too. He’s extremely knowledgeable about wildlife and nature as a biologist, he is not just a tour guide, he really knows his stuff and it’s great to understand what you’re looking at, the ecosystems and he brings the richness of the wildlife and nature to life. It really helped me get more out of the nature I was seeing not just on this tour but others too. You then take a lovely long boat ride along the river where you can see crocodiles, pelicans, osprey (that was amazing!) hawks, egrits, herons, kingfishers and more. It’s a beautiful ride. After that we went to a great restaurant for lunch which had a mind blowing, wow factor view - and we saw two macaws fly past! The final stop was at a local beach to cool off, this isn’t where tourists go so we were the only ones there and it was really refreshing. This tour is great as there are less tourists than at some national parks, so it really feels like you’re getting closer to Costa Rica and nature. Also no late nights with this tour as with many from San Jose, back comfortably before dinner time! This is such a lovely company as well, formed of biologists who truly care about nature and are extremely knowledgeable and want to share their passion - you’re not just “another tourist” but a person to them. They truly want you to have the best day, keep the focus on nature without disturbing the wildlife and help you experience nature without the big touristy group sizes. Just how it should be. You want to see real Costa Rica and love nature - these are your people! Rarely would any of us say they had a perfect day - this day was a perfect one. Thank you!

We looked at a lot of day trips in Costa Rica and it took us a while to select Oropopo but we are glad we did. We got amazing service from our guide, Rigo, and everything went smoothly and on time. We got the looks at the scarlet macaws in Carara that we wanted and the incredibly close sightings of crocodiles on the Tarcoles. The Tarcoles boat ride, by the way, is amazing. There were so many different species of birds around on that part of the excursion.

Rigo's enthusiasm for Costa Rica's wildlife is only surpassed by his knowledge. We learned a lot, and look forward to another tour with Rigo on our next visit to Costa Rica. Recommended!

This tour was one of the best tours I’ve done in Costa Rica and thanks to an amazing guide in Rigo! Very friendly and personable wit you, he is like a friend that you don’t even realize he’s a tour operator. This tour consists of first stopping at The crocodile bridge, then walking around and seeing the carara national park and we even saw some animals such as a monkey, and tree frogs, and then the best part at the end where we went to the Tarcoles River to see the wildlife and crocodiles, and so many different type of birds. Rigo was awesome, took really good pictures of us and was very informative throughout his tour, it was basically a private tour as he picks you up from his SUV and takes you everywhere along the way, I would recommend highly of this tour of anyone trying to see the Tarcoles River!

I went on the Carara National Park and Tárcoles River Tour, from San José. The experience exceeded expectations by miles, Oropopo were streaks ahead of any other tour operator that I used here. I was picked up by Rigo, from my hotel, in a Land Cruiser rather than cramped minibus. The group was very small, making us more nimble. Rigo is a fantastic guide. It was a privilege to be experiencing nature and being advised by such a qualified biologist. His English is perfect, and he was good fun. The Carara National Park was lovely and quiet, in contrast to the absolutely packed Manuel Antonio National Park. There may be less of the big mammals here, but there's fascinating stuff to see. We were lucky to see a pair of fantastic scarlet macaws. The river tour was an incredible experience. It is an extensive tour, going up and down the river and then into mangroves. You'll see lots of huge crocodiles, very close up. The bird life is also spectacular. The guide on the boat was entertaining and informative. Lunch was delicious. We went to a buffet style place that allowed something for anyone. Finally it was back to San José, again enjoying the comfort of the Land Cruiser and Rigo's conversation. I could not fault this tour, the operator or Rigo. An opportunity that cannot be missed

I was surprised to discover that not only was I the only one on tour but that we were the only ones on the river - people are missing out I was collected by Rigo nice and early, we stopped to buy fruit on the way and adjusted the itinerary slightly due to the weather but we need not have worried, the weather was perfect Along the river I was shown many birds from the mighty Scarlet Macaw to an Osprey with fish in tow, we also saw many crocodiles from a baby to Tyson the oldest at 90 ish years, along with many lizards On to Carara we were fortunate enough to see both Spider and Capuchins, a salamander, iquanas, lizards, white tailed deer, an Agouti (?), my favourite Morpho, green and black poisonous dart frogs and many different birds Rigo was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly, the day went really quickly I would just recommend, no matter how hot, thick long trousers as the mossies were in abundance and bit non exposed areas as well, despite two types of repellent!

I was surprised to find that I was not only the only one to book the tour but that we were the only ones on the river, the park also extremely quiet - people are missing out I was collected nice and early to ensure we missed the rain and had a very nice day, Rigo was an excellent guide and very knowledgeable. We saw one of the youngest, as well as the oldest crocodiles on the river, along with many birds including the Scarlet Macaw and in Carara we were treated to Spider and Capuchin monkeys, white tailed deer, an Agouti (or similar), the mighty Morpho butterfly, woodpeckers and many more birds Just be sure to wear very long and thick trousers, the mosquitos ate me alive - even through my trousers, I have visited CR many times but never had so many bites and ones on covered up areas - despite using two different repellents, one of which had successfully seen me through three trips including volunteering at a Rescue Centre!

This is an amazing tour and I would highly recommend!! :) Carara National Park and the Tarcoles River are both incredible places that are close to each other and not too far from San Jose. It was really nice to visit the Tarcoles bridge and the beach too! :) Rigo was a fantastic and kind guide. As a trained and experienced biologist he was passionate to share his brilliant knowledge to help me fully understand the fauna and flora of the forests and the Tarcoles wetlands and mangrove forests. In Carara I saw many birds including Toucans, Maccaws and Hummingbirds. I also saw frogs, agouti and other awesome wildlife and Rigo helped me observe with a great camera! :) The Tarcoles River Tour is fantastic. There are many crocodiles there and so many different birds, including Kingfishers, Pelicans and other sea-birds and birds of prey. The guides there help you to observe everything with their expertise. The mangroves and coast are beautiful!! I had a brilliant day! :)

This was an AMAZING adventure with my guide YEPO (Jose Pablo), he was extremely knowledgeable, had a great instict for spotting wildlife and went completely out of the way to provide us a unique experience. First time in the morning we bought some seasonal fruits at a local market, then we went hiking to CARARA NATIONAL PARK where we saw monkeys, frogs, lizards, dozens of plants and mushrooms and for every organism Yepo had a wonderful story to tell. Then we had a small picninc at the beach where we finally ate the fruits he got for us (god bless the tropics!) And finally after having lunch we went for a very calm but informative and scenic boat ride through the Tarcole River where Yepo showed us a handful of colorful birds and HUGE crocodiles. My favorite was Shakira! Thank you Yepo for this wonderful day, god bless
