Great experience. NOLA has a lot to offer in terms of food and hanging out, but don’t forget about the history. This was a fantastic and powerful experience. I walked away with a much needed refresher and with some additional insight. They do a great job with helping you to really understand the lives of slaves. Never forget.

The grayline bus driver(5/18 10am) was very professional and knowledgeable and handled the bus expertly through narrowed roads. The Whitney plantation tour was very sobering. The focus of the plantation was superb as it accounted the devastating and demoralizing experiences of an enslaved culture due to ignorance, greed and bigotry. Often these types of tours focus on the beauty of the main house and plantation owners lineage as opposed to the demoralizing, humiliating and displacement of slaves, and the rippling effects that still impact generations today. My adult daughters were very moved by the tour. They are 4 to 5 generations removed from the presence of slavery so it is often difficult for them to understand what truly occurred.

The Whitney Plantation tour was great. Our tour guide was very informative and provided us with wonderful historic information during the entire ride (there and back). The plantation itself took us back to a painful time in American history. This tour was well worth the money. There were two people on our bus who were supposed to have taken the tour the day before. This left our bus extremely crowded. My party of six was the last to get on the bus, so we were hard pressed to find seats. In my opinion, the two people who were not supposed to be on the tour should not have been allowed on the bus until everyone who had paid for the tour was seated. This was the only drawback to the tour.

An evocative visit to an in depth and well presented history of both one plantation and really all of Louisiana's history of slavery. Really amazing and worth the trip!

We were promised a professional, licensed tour guide on the bus and at the Whitney Plantation. There was no tour guide at all. The bus windows had lost their seal and were totally fogged up. You could not see out of them. Do not take this tour. Do not waste your money!!!!

While we thoroughly appreciated the experience at the Whitney Plantation, the tour itself left much to be desired. 1. This tour was combined with a separate tour group who went to another plantation, adding at least an hour to our time in the bus. The description said we would have 3 hours at the Whitney, but we had only two. It was just about the right amount of time, but we felt rushed in the end. 2. We were clearly advised that food was not included, but we naively expected food to be available for purchase at the plantation. Sadly, there was none and we were quite hungry. Plan on bringing a lunch (but not having time to eat it there). 3. The bus was very loud, between the engine, the A/C and the rattling windows, and the seats were very uncomfortable. 4. We were given self-guided audio tour devices which had to be held up to your ear as the audio of headphones provided was poor. One positive note, our bus driver was excellent, charming and very interesting, despite her disclaimer that she is not a tour guide! Highly recommend getting a tour with an actual tour guide on a comfortable bus that doesn’t make stops at other places, and bringing some food along.

An incredible museum - a must see. I was worried 2 hours at the museum wouldn’t be enough, but it was.

Excellent! We did the self-guided tour. It was so nice that they had hand-held devices that talked about each section. Very interesting, educational and respectful.

The Whitney Plantation Tour was an emotional experience, as they tell the real story of this plantation from the viewpoint of the enslaved people who lived there.......it is extremely well done, accurate historically, and makes you think about the horros and brutality of the American slavery system. Highly recommend this tour!

The experiences that slaves had to endure were shocking. I hope as many people as possible get a chance to see this exhibit. I was pleased that it was easy to view with lots of rest stops.

This is an educational and humbling experience. The tour part of the day is so interesting and the self guided audio works brilliantly. Plenty of time to take everything in. Highly recommended.

Very eye-opening and “real”. Perspective of the slaves was very informative and offered more insight into the struggle of the slaves.

The tour of Whitney Plantation was moving, wrenching and honest. Highly recommend this truthful and informative place to everyone. Bryant was our guide for the bus ride out and back. He was professional, comical, knowledgeable and kind. He told us all about New Orleans and the relevant things as we made the hour drive to Whitney. Bring cash for tips...he is highly deserved.

Seeing the memorial for the children. It brought me to tears after reading some of the quotes. It was interesting to see how some of the prayers and songs were passed down. My Grandmother taught me a few that were there.

I love history. My trip to Whitney plantation was enriching. I strongly recommend it for any family with children to interact with the history of the plantation. An excellent learning experience for any African American family.

The site was done very well, but the most impactful part were the testimonials by the enslaved people. The book store was outstanding and the staff was pleasant.
