It was quite an experience.Enjoyable even though it was windy and the boat ride a bit rocky.We saw few whales but I know such trips are a risk as nature has her own course.

Currently there seem to be more southern Right hanging out at Gansbaai, than in neighbouring Hermanus, which is why we chose Ivanhoe whale watch . We were lucky enough to soon find Mum and calf , who came so close to the boat, you could feel the spray of the blow. We’re able to watch them for a fair while, and get some great footage. Saw quite a few other whales too. We’d certainly use Ivanhoe again .

I liked this activity. The driver was a cool guy. I think you offer a vehicle with more space, almost 3hs tightly wasn’t good.

Fantastic experience! Saw far more whales than we expected, and got some incredible pictures. Skippers were very friendly and very knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend!

Best whale watching trip ever! We were not many people on the boat (something like 15) so it was not crowded at all and made very enjoyable. The guides gave LOADS of information and were super friendly. We have a lot if whales, going under the boat and breaching. As bonus we also had dolphins

The captain was very kind and spontaneous and explained lots of things to us about the whales and was very passionated about them. It was a very special experience!

We went on this trip today and I would recommend it very highly. I love whale watching and this is one of the best trips I have done. It's a small boat and they don't pack you on like sardines which I hate. Brilliant, friendly and knowledge crew, you get to see the whales so much better than a big boat. The only tip I would give is take an anti seasickness. I was fine but some weren't because there was quite a swell. With it being a small boat you are much closer to the water. I will be back. We had an amazing time and saw a lot of whales! The group was not too big and the guide was really nice and had answers to all our questions. We learned so much about these amazing animals and heard a lot of great stories. I can recommend this tour 100%. It‘s worth the price.

Most incredible whale watching experience ever with Southern Right whales with calves coming right up to our drifting boat diving underneath and all around the boat

We did this today (3A, 2K). It was a great experience. After checkin in we went on the boat and after a short instructions from the skipper on our way. It was great that the tour started on time. The boat was full. Slightly tight for all the people but sufficient space. After going in for 20-30 minutes we had our first whale sighting. The skipper provided some useful information and shared nice facts about the whales. We then went to a couple other locations where we spotted more whales. Overall we saw lots of whales. It was a fun experience. Would highly recommend this company if you looking to experience whale watching in Gansbaai

It was a nice calming experience like a massage the boat was nice the whales were kind and the guide explaining whale behavior was excellent.

It was am amazing whale watching tour! We had hoped to see maybe one or two whales, but we saw around 15 whales, and several swimming right next to the boat! An unforgettable experience! The skipper took excellent care of us and the guide shared plenty of valuable info about these magnificent animals. We really learned a lot! All in all a tour I would recommend to everyone, old and young. The Ivanhoe team are all super professional and you can tell that they are passionate about what they do!

A whale-watching boat trip at 2.00 pm out of Hermanus got canceled due to high winds predicted on our day of departure. Searching websites, we were fortunate to find Ivanhoe Sea Safaris, who were not canceling as their location at Gansbaai was not affected by winds in the same way. They had space on a 3.30 pm departure and I booked us in. The timing worked out better for us, as we were driving from Camps Bay and now we had time to have a leisurely lunch at Hermanus and do some whale watching from the cliff walk there before driving the next 40 minutes to Gansbaai. The boat was surprisingly small for a group of some 20 persons, a maximum of 8 on the upper deck. But we were assured that even as a 10-ton vessel, the 60-ton whales would not come anywhere near us, let alone interfere with us. (If they did it would be disastrous!) The seating was just sufficient and a bit tight, especially when some seats were unusable due to seaspray. Transparent screens were put down on either side of the boat, in turn, to protect us from the worst of the seaspray, so that was a good feature. It was quite a smooth ride into the bay and soon we were up close to our first of several mother-baby whale pairs. These were southern right whales and very comfortable with boats, so we could go quite close. From the lower deck, we could go to the prow of the boat for the closest view. Those who headed for the upper deck stayed up there and while they had a higher view, we were closer to the whales. The boat headed wherever a whale was sighted and over an hour or so, we were captivated by these gentle giants cavorting in the sea, tail fin up sometimes, heads breaching at other times. All too soon, it was time to head back to Gansbaai harbour. Overall, while we found the fare quite expensive, it was a worthwhile price to pay for up-close encounters with whales.

The experience was amazing, and the cree was very profesional giving us all kind of information about the whales. We were able to see severas whales at the sale time. I totally recomend this trip. Thank you crew

Absolutely magnificent experience. Ivanhoe is well organised and we felt relaxed and welcome right from the start. The guides were excellent and answered all of my questions - I learnt so much that I did not know about whales! To see the whales so close was on my bucket list and I’m so glad I got to experience this. I also appreciated that the whales are never disturbed but many chose to come close to the boat which was why wonderful! I recommend viewing the whales from the Gansbaai side, which is where Ivanhoe operates - magical. Thank you Ivanhoe, from reception to crew and guides, all excellent.
