A great day from start to finish with Isabella our guide who was conversant in German English and Spanish she kept us safe without too many restrictions and led the way at a decent pace taking in loads of history and natural landmarks. Lunch was adequate and in a nice spot and again all organised well by Isabella. The mountain roads are scary but breathtaking and this tour shouldn’t be missed by anyone wanting to see the real Gran Canaria not just bars and hotels

Terrific day out well worth it. Cars are in good condition and feel safe to drive. The roads as others have said are very winding and when you are not used to driving that side of the road adds to the day. Placiob our guide had many Germans that day did the tour in both English and German and included everyone with some great facts and history on the island. Take some water sunglasses and sunscreen as all are required.

Amazing day driving fantastic roads in well maintained fun to drive VW Beetles. Friendly guide, nice picnic. Highly recommend as both a driving experience and a great way to see the island.

When I read about this self-drive tour as a possible and quite unique excursion whilst visiting Gran Canaria, I was really keen to try it out. I’m glad to say it exceeded my expectations! The Buggy Pirates driver picked me up from my hotel at 8am on the dot. Around half an hour later we arrived at the Buggy Pirates base. There, Placido, the brilliant, multilingual (spoke Spanish, German and English fluently) guide, introduced himself and we set off shortly afterwards, after a safety briefing. Placido explained the significance of every place we stopped at, such as the Mirador Astronómico, the aloe vera farm, the Pico de las Nieves and the echo caves, really well. He also reminded me nicely to keep to the right more and to mainly stay in second gear when driving! I would highly recommend the Buggy Pirates’ VW Beetle Cabrio tour of Gran Canaria and, in particular, Placido as your guide.

As professional as this tour company was and they really were, our tour guide made sure that he covered everything in various languages and was very informative, it was not as advertised, Because they offer the off-road buggy tour too, we were picked up from our hotel in the scruffiest van imaginable inside, don’t wear white. Although the convertible beetle was amazing, if your not a confident driver abroad this is not the tour for you. It offers an island tour, it definitely is not. You drive to their largest extinct volcano drive all the up one side and after making a few interesting stops you drive all the way back down, both ways in a car your not used to, a manual gear shift and on the wrong side of the road if your from the U.K like me and once you hit the volcano road your on the narrowest and most meandering road you can imagine, it’s literally like being on a rollercoaster, the final decent is apparently called the razors edge, it’s that bad. Convertible cars are great as long as your not clenching your teeth and gripping to the steering wheel driving in 32 degrees without a hat, ( my fault) and the driving duration from start to finish was 7 hours. My wife enjoyed it as a passenger because she could take in the views or cover her eyes. Definitely not for the faint hearted.

We had a wonderful tour on the island guided by Placido. The buggy tour was exellent. Placido is the best guide ever! Friendly, knowledge and had good music and vibes! Also the pick-nick was tasty and perfect! Thanks 😎😎

My wife and son and I went on this tour and it was great. The Guide - Placido - was a really nice guy, and very helpful. He showed us some basics and then we were off on a great tour up to the highest place on Gran Canaria via the inside of the ancient volcano. Driving the convertible beetle was really cool in the sun, and in convoy with 5 others. We stopped off at a lot of interesting places with great photoshoot opportunities. A simple lunch was included and a visit to an Aloe Vera farm where we had a demo but were under no pressure at all to buy anything, but if you do want some Aloe Vera products , there's a great range reasonably priced. The cars are easy to drive , but a word of warning, at the start of the tour you have to go up a really steep drive, don't make my mistake and think you're in 1st gear, when you're actually in 3rd, and nearly burn the clutch out.

Excellent trip Placedo our guide was knowledgeable and went through everything with us, strange driving a left hand drive manual on the wrong side of the road but soon got used to it.Brilliant roads and plenty of stops to get the camera out.As our trip didn’t include drop of back at our hotel Placedo sorted a taxi for us.

The scenery was amazing and the guide was both informative and attentive. The trip takes you into a picture postcard village where you have time to explore. There are also stop off points along the route at interesting points.

Thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this experience. Placido the guide was very knowledgeable and made the whole day run smoothly. Really worthwhile and good value for money.
