As many others have noted, it's worth your money to book a private tour. Ask for Peter and you'll have the adventure of a lifetime. Peter is a wealth of knowledge, and he's also fun to be around.
This was a great experience . . . From the breakfast to the final walk in the Gardens, our guide, Wolfgang, was superb. We thoroughly enjoyed ever aspect of this tour and can't recommend it and our personal guide, enough. One sees things on this tour not seen by the big bus tours and that makes it very worthwhile. If you are a Sound of Music fan, this tour is a must!
Being that we have watched the Sound of Music more times than we can remember, we absolutely had the best time on our Sound of Music tour. The tour began with a visit to the Mirabel Gardens where Maria sang her way with I have Confidence in Me to her job as nanny for the Von Trapp family. Then we had breakfast at the residence used for the Von Trapp home. Both the home and landscaping were stunning. Although we could not visit the working Abbey, we could see it from a distance. Yet we were able to view the actual church used for the wedding.
We sang songs from the movie all day long.'
This was such an enjoyable way to spend a day in Salzburg.
BTW - spend the extra money and take the private tour as it is much more specialized than taking a tour bus with 70 of your closest friends. Plus, the bus would not be able to access some of the streets that our guide took us down.
This was a perfect day in Salzburg! My husband and I didn't want to be herded around like cattle on the big 'Sound of Music' bus although that sounds fun if you have kids and want group sing-alongs. We were interested in some of the SOM attractions, but we are not hard-core fans of the movie. It was nice to be able to pace the day to our liking. Thomas was a wonderful tour guide. He picked us up at our hotel in a nice Mercedes in the morning and took us over to Schloss Leopoldskron for breakfast. The views and pictures there were fabulous. There were some gorgeous scenic views on our drive and Thomas was nice enough to pull over and let me take some pictures. That would never have happened on a big group tour. My favorite part was being able to get gorgeous pictures without tons of tourists in the background. TIP: If you are prone to getting car sick, you might want to take something for that problem before the trip. Thomas was a great driver, but the roads are winding.
I'm very glad we had our guide, Peter. He made sure we see everything on our bucket list. If you are a Sound of Music fan, not to be missed. We also saw some of the Lake District, so beautiful.
David was great. He took us to and explained all the sites. It was a memorable and great day! Thanks David for making it so complete. You enhanced our knowledge of the Sound of Music immensely!
Driver was great and customized the tour to our interests . The only criticism is that the breakfast was a very basic buffet and half the dishes were empty by the time we got there
This tour for our family was all that we expected it to be and more. Our tour guide, Peter, was amazing! He was friendly, professional, and knowledgable. He helped make our day a memorable one. The included breakfast at Schloss Leopoldskron was delicious. The private tour does cost more, but for a once-in-a-lifetime tour with our kids and their wives, this was most definitely the way to go. It's much better to see things up close and personal...not from across the lake, for example. We highly recommend this tour!!
Travelled with a family group including three adult children. Convenient and we covered a lot of ground - a great treat for fans of the Sound of Music. Breakfast was ok. The tour was wonderful. Highly recommended.
Amazing
Natasha was great
Many thanks
This was an amazing day and our guide Natasha made it even more special she made the day for us with memories never to be forgotten
Wonderful experience. Champagne breakfast was lovely, a good start to the day and the visit to the Villa Von Trapp were the highlights for our little group of 6. We had an amazing guide called Lisa who answered all our questions and gave us so much information. Would thoroughly recommend this tour, we felt priveledged and the tour was unique to Viator and therefore you were not surrounded by large groups on the stop offs. Thank you so much, especially to Lisa.
This was the most amazing tour. Our driver was very professional and so informative. This was a tour of a lifetime.
We spent 3 weeks in Europe and this was easily the most wonderful experience we had during the entire trip. We were a bit concerned that what we would receive would match up with the price but the day far exceed our expectations. We originally booked this tour because my grandmother moves very slowly and uses a wheelchair for any distance walking, and we were concerned about keeping up with a big tour group; however, if you can squeeze it into your budget this is the best tour ever.
Starting the day off at Leopoldskron Palace was amazing, made better by all the people telling us that it was closed to the public and none of the tours went there, the closest we would get was the other other side of the lake. Seeing the amazing rococo building that Max saved just really set the mood for the day.
We had a list of must-see places that I had informed the company of before hand and also shared with our tour guide at the beginning of the day and they were 100% accommodating, I was concerned because communication before the tour was a little challenging but I don't know if that was from the viator end or Panoramic a Tours in Salzburg, but it didn't matter because they had all my messages and planned accordingly.
Our tour guide, who's name I can not remember now, was fantastic! He is a a Salzburg native and his knowledge of the area was impressive, so along with the history of the movie and the real history of the family I learned quite a bit about the history of Salzburg and Austria as he was able to answer any question we threw at him. The entire day our guide was generous with information, funny, personable and engaging. Our guide ended the tour with a sing along of sound of music songs on our way back down the alps, the perfect end to a perfect day.
