Naphat was wonderful! She was so well rounded, well known and very cultured. We now have the confidence to order amazing food anywhere we go in Thailand. I’m so glad we did this tour and I would highly recommend Naphat to anyone looking for a truly authentic Thai experience.

Amazing time with May! She was so friendly, positive, knowledgeable and accommodating. Wish she was our guide for all of our activities in chiang mai!

I had a great time with May and our food tour is a favorite! We completely avoided any tourist traps and are at authentic Thai restaurants and markets (no tourists, and nothing in English). The food was sooo good, and May taught me a lot about Thai cuisine. She was also quick to adjust our plans based on what I’ve already tried or had interest in trying. She shows real energy and desire to make sure I had a great experience. Thank you May!

We absolutely loved our evening with Ae. We got to try sooooo many different types of food and loved how it varied from street food to restaurants and walking to tuk Tuks throughout the evening. We were definitely full after the trip and got to take plenty of snacks home with us. She was really accommodating to being vegan and other dietary requirements

Tanya was a fun guide and brought us to great food experiences. She knew her way around the market and other areas of Chiang Mai. She has cultivated a fabulous network of food vendors and was able to bring us to some amazing out of the way places.

Our spontaneous decision to book the 10 tastings of Chiang Mai food tour with Aei turned out to be an excellent choice. Despite our last-minute booking, Aei was accommodating and took us on a delightful culinary adventure through her favorite spots in Chiang Mai. Her friendliness, knowledge, and consideration for our family made the experience unforgettable. Not only did we savor delicious street food, but we also gained insights into the history and culture of old town Chiang Mai. Aei's exceptional hosting made our evening truly memorable, and we wholeheartedly recommend her tour to anyone visiting the area.

We spent a marvelous few hours with May. She took us all over, finding the best of everything, and she was able to customize the tour to accommodate both a vegetarian (me) and a carnivore (my husband). The food was fresh and amazing. It was definitely a highlight of our visit to Chiang Mai, and we would highly recommend it!

This tour really exceeded my expectations! We went on it with May/Purichat, and she was so accommodating to us as vegetarians. The small (and rather obscure) place she introduced to us had seriously great food, from a vegan Khao Soi to really delicious tea leaf salad I've never had before. She also took us through the pretty overwhelming Sunday walking market as well as to Chinatown and a hidden riverside bar, and it was a lot of fun seeing all the snacks avaliable. I thought it would mostly be an eating tour, but we actually toured a lot of the city and saw much more than I thought! Definitely come with empty stomachs if you do this, though - we did and got completely stuffed regardless.

Purichat, who also goes by May, was communicative in advance of our tour and adjusted the start time to accommodate our late flight into Chiang Mai. She was prompt in picking us up in her comfortable truck. She took us to several local markets and roadside restaurants we would have likely not found on our own, and gave us a wide array of tastes of true Northern Thai (Lanna) cuisine. This is definitely a tour for real foodies who are willing to try things outside their comfort zone. This is definitely NOT your cookie cutter pad thai/mango sticky rice tourist experience. First stop - incredible Khao Soi (famous northern thai egg noodle/chicken soup) and a ridiculously tasty and savory Nam Ngeaw (Rice noodle pork broth soup with chicken blood cubes) Second stop - clay pot bbq'd chicken and crispy pork belly with payaya salad (delicious across the board) Third stop - this is where it started getting really interesting - sour beef and radish soup, Gueng Hung Lay (Burmese style pork belly curry), Chiang Mai Sausage, steamed ground pork in banana leaf, and both raw and cooked water buffalo laab. We especially enjoyed the sour beef/radish soup, Chiang Mai Sausage and raw laab (it's far tastier than the cooked version and worth taking the plunge), all washed down with a cold Chang lager. Last stop - Khao Kha Moo (stewed pork leg with rice) from the famous cowboy hat lady at the northern gate night market, followed by a delicious cocounut/tapioca desert and probably some other items I'm forgetting. By this point I was already dangerously close to a food coma! As you can see, for the typical western tourist, this menu may challenge what you may be used to, but it is well worth it the leap of faith if you have an open mind. Our only complaint? Too much delicious food. Because I'm apparently a massochist glutton, I went to bed extremely and uncomfortably full because I couldn't stop eating!

Mae was a wonderful guide for our food tour. She was passionate knowledgeable about the foods and culture of Northern Thailand. We tasted so much food, that by the end, we had leftovers to take with us. We couldn't eat it all. We highly recommend this tour.

After a bit of a bumpy start (I did not receive correspondence from the local team about confirmation of my booking and the name of the tour guide but that was apparently due to a technical issue with the Viator chat tool), we set off to the night market. Charin was friendly and very knowledgeable about the local food and history. We tasted several dishes in the night market then headed off to a few of Charin’s favorite local restaurants and food stands for some northern Thai delicacies including Shan tea leaf salad, Burmese pork curry, and Chiang mai sausage. It was an enjoyable and tasty tour. I would highly recommend it for any food lover!

This tour was the perfect way to start our trip in Chiang Mai! Our tour guide, Tanya, was so friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. My husband and I are both vegetarians and she had no shortage of recommendations for us. She customized the tour based on our preferences and gave us a ton of great information along the way. We were STUFFED by the end of the night and even had food left over to take back to the hotel. We would absolutely book this again next time we’re in Chiang Mai!

This is an efficient and professional company that delivers a first class product. It’s a bigger set up than I expected, with perhaps 6 or 7 classes ongoing, but it all works well. You chose your menu from 3 categories and get a good understanding of the taste of a range of key ingredients. You will struggle to eat all you cook, but can bring any leftovers home with you.

We had an amazing time with Sawitchaya (May) on the 10 Tasting of Chiang Mai tour. We started out at a temple where we learnt about the history and food culture of Chiang Mai. May then drove us by car to a few local Thai restaurants where we sampled delicious local specialities like Khao Soi, Pad See Ew and Spicy Corn Salad (which has become a new favorite of ours). One of our party was vegan and May easily adapted menus for us and took us to a vegan restaurant. May was so knowledgeable about Thai food it's culture and tradition. She gave us such detailed and interesting insights which we loved. May also took us to a local Thai market to sample even more delicious delicacies including fruit, Mango Sticky Rice, Spicy Sausage and Banana Roti and learn more about local ingredients before we enjoyed our treats while watching the bustle of the market below. We were too full to finish everything though so packaged it up for eating later. Just too good to waste! May was an exceptional guide and she is a credit to With Locals.

We had an incredible time with May ( Sawitchaya). She was warm, friendly and enthusiastic in sharing food and culture with us. She took us to a temple to make a wish which was great way to start our visit. She knew how to engage our moody 7 & 10 year-old kids. We frequently do food tours when we travel in different counties so we can confidently say that the food tour with May was one of the most comprehensive and superb quality experiences we ever had. By the end of it, our stomachs were happy but bursting with food. Most importantly, it was such a pleasure to spend time with a great host like May. She took us to various restaurants and food street for various food tastings making it an enriching and wholesome experience. She explained about flavors, spices and ingredients in local cuisine. We highly recommend her for a food tour in Chiang Mai.

We had a great evening with Naphat, very interesting and informative. We set her a real challenge as we are vegetarian/ gluten free - and she rose to the occasion! She managed to find us an interesting combination of foods and a tour of the late night Thai food market. It wasn't just about food, spending time with a local gives you a real insight into the history and culture of the country and the every day lived experience of the Thais. Would definitely recommend this tour

Aei was an exceptional guide who spoke excellent English. She was totally accommodating to any dietary restrictions. She handled all purchasing and interactions with food vendors (it’s included in the price), making everything so easy. Although she has a planned route, she can change it based on whatever you want. Being a lifelong resident, she was able to answer all of our questions about Thai food, culture, daily life, Buddhism, local attractions, and more. Her tour was a diverse summary of northern Thai food, and all the spots were so delicious! We never would have visited most of the spots if it wasn’t for her expertise. She was so friendly; engage her in conversation! Ask questions! There was plenty of walking, so wear good shoes. Great finish by the river having beers. Could not recommend this more!

We enjoyed our lunchtime food tour with Purichat, aka May. She drove us around town to try Northern Thai restaurants where we were the only foreigners. We also toured around a food market. She made sure the food choices were mild or not spicy, as we requested, and most importantly told us how to ask for non-spicy dishes. And no worries if you can’t eat everything- we had the leftovers for dinner!

We loved our street food tour with Charin! Not only did we have the best versions of dishes we knew about but he also introduced us to things we would have never known about or even m own how or where to try as well. It was also great getting to know Charin as he is a very interesting and thoughtful person who taught us a lot about the many different cultures in the area. Highly recommend this tour and thank you again Charin for spending time with us!
