Luz, guided us to the large local market and introduced us to a traditional breakfast. Then, we explored the different market vendors to sample fruits, spices and treats that are native to the Yucatan . After a short mini bus ride we arrived at Berta's residence where she taught us to prepare a traditional meal. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of learning about the cuisine, learning to prepare it and to meet a wonderful family in Merida. Luz took pictures to remember the tour. After the tour we received an email which included the recipes and a list of the items we sampled at the market. The tour provided us with everything we were expecting and much more! We recommend this tour very highly. LD

I’m not sure how to put into words how amazing this experience was, but I’ll try 😉! This experience was life changing. My sisters and I had the most fun, with laughter, photos, conversation, and such delicious food. Such grace, as well from the family with our lack of Spanish. Laura was amazing at what she did, from taking us to the market, to us riding the bus to the host family house to translating when our own translation was not comprehended. Laura laughed with us, took photos of us and with us and ate with us. We thoroughly had an amazing time and would absolutely recommend this experience time and time again!!

Luz welcomed us and took us to the Market, where we could buy all the necessary ingredients for a vegetarin meal, as we had requested it. We then went to Bertha's home, where we also got a very warm welcome. The cooking process was much fun, as were the conversations. After the class we received an email with all the recipes. The program is well designed and we can only recommend Luz and Bertha!

We booked this cooking class for the very first day we were in Merida and it was a wonderful introduction. Diego met us at the location provided and we toured the market together with another couple, trying various fruits, spices, and other novelties while he bought the goods we would need for cooking. Diego grew up in the USA so he spoke fluent english. He also was fantastic at immediately knowing how much spanish we spoke so that we could practice speaking spanish without being completely overwhelmed. We then took the bus together to the woman's house for the cooking lesson which was quite fun - we got to try a lot of foods and took home some new skills to try our hand at making Yucatan dishes at home. It was a long day, starting at 9am and ending around 3pm but we really enjoyed the entire experience and would highly recommend to anyone interested in becoming familiar with the market and getting an introduction to yucatan cuisine!

My boyfriend, his cousin and I went on a guided food market and cooking tour with Laura. We had a wonderful time. She showed us around the market, with great tasting opportunities at renowned stalls and telling us a lot about the different fruits and vegetables available. She applies a lot of care and attention to the group, as well as the other people she interacts with, making the whole experience extremely enjoyable. The cooking class was great, we've learned how to make a traditional dish which we are now sharing with our family and friends in return. Overall I give the experience five stars and recommend it highly. Thank you for everything!

Great half day with our guide Diego Walking to and through the market with - seeing and tasting and shopping the ingredients. Then joining him to visit A home with the lady of the house teaching us how to cook the meal end enjoying it together. So friendly and welcoming ( do not forget to buy her some flowers at the market which will be not expected but very much appreciated. A true local experience in good company and well worth the time and experience!

Gisel was our tour guide for the day and translator. She was informative on our market tour giving us tastings of the local spices, fruit, and liquor. We arrived after at Dorkas home where we cooked empanadas, chicken, a dip, sauces, and a desert. Dorkas was very friendly and her food was the best we had on this trip! Felt like grandmas home cooking. Dorkas does not speak English so Gisel helps to translate however we had many in our group that spoke some or are fluent in Spanish so it made it very easy, but even if that was not the case Gisel can translate.

This tour was superb and thoroughly enjoyed by our family - 2 adults and 2 teenage children. Diego was a wonderful guide and we had a great time walking through the market tasting multiple fruits, spices and cooked meats. The lady who cooked with us could not have been more hospitable and we enjoyed sitting round the kitchen table chopping, mixing, making empanadas and chatting. Would highly recommend.

Laura was absolutely amazing, from the time we signed up for the tour all the way through the end. She is attentive, very knowledgeable, and she seems to love people. We started the day with a trip through the market, where she shared all sorts of information and got us samples of different foods and spices. Then, we got on public transit and travelled to a very nice woman's house. There, we all (7 including Laura) learned how to make pollo pibil. The food was absolutely delicious and the company was just as great. I would recommend this experience to anyone. It was truly unforgettable and being a part of the Mexican/Mérida culture was so enriching. I loved every bit of it. Don't hesitate to sign up, and use Laura!!

I can't thank Laura enough for the amazing experience we had on our recent trip to the Yucatan. Our cooking class started with a tour of the local market and a challenge to fill our shipping list for our local host/cooking teacher. Laura walked us thru the market and explained everything from culture to culinary treasures. We left the market with our list complete and ended up at our 'Mama' house who was warm and welcoming. She walked us thru preparing our multicourse meal with Laura interpreting as our Spanish wasn't great. Cooking went very well with excellent direction and the meal turned out exquisite. We talked, laughed and enjoyed the home cooked meal we had prepared. In the 9 days in Merida and all our adventures, this cooking class was by far our favorite experience. Thank you so much for the amazing day Laura and our Yucatan Mama.

Learning about the ingredients in the market and the recipes. The market visit was very interesting. Our guide Luz did a great job explaining at the market and also Dorcas’ home where we prepared the meal. Dorcas had great energy and was very welcoming to her home. Dorcas also gave great insight into the preparation of our meal. All in all we had a great experience and look forward to trying to recreate the dishes at home !

We traveled to Mérida to experience the local culture, which for us means spending time with the wonderful Yucatán people and tasting the fantastic food there. What better way to do this than to spend half a day cooking in a home kitchen after touring the market with a guide? Luz (our guide) shared so much about the area as we approached the market, then treated us to delicious samples of prepared foods and fruits. Then we arrived at the home of Dorkas with our market purchases and proceeded to prepare a multi course Mexican lunch. Dorkas is most welcoming, warm and a very good cook. Luz is a cheerful and experienced guide. A truly memorable highlight of our time in Mexico.

This was totally worth it. During the market tour portion, we tried a ton of samples of local fruits, spices, drinks, and more. The cooking class was laidback yet hands-on, and the meal was delicious. I enjoyed that these two events (market tour + cooking a meal together) are combined, as it gave you a more complete picture of the ingredients we were using. Our guide (Gisell) was kind and helpful!

This was our favorite experience in Merida. Luz, our guide was wonderful - friendly and knowledgeable. Her English is excellent. We also loved the time with, Dorcas, our host. The market was fascinating, the cooking enjoyable, and the food delicious. All in all, a fabulous day.

We really enjoyed our day with our guide Gisell and the "teacher" Dorkas who has invited us to her home. The class was both fun and informative, plus we received detailed recipes afterwards. 100% recommended!

Laura (the guide for the market) was great; very friendly and fun to hang out with. She took us to the market and bought us some excellent tacos before taking us to shop for the meal’s ingredients. We tasted different spice mixtures at the spice stand. Then we took a bus to the chef’s home (Berta). Her and her husband were very welcoming and attentive. We cooked sikil pak, which was far more delicious than we had in any restaurant. Then we made Pollo Pibil, empanadas de Chaya, and for dessert , a Crema de Coco (like a coconut pudding). We also made tomato sauce, pickled onions, and a habanero sauce to top the food. Everything was amazing. Better than in any restaurant.

The host was sweet and helpful, the market visit had lots of samples of fruits, sauces, and spices, and the meal was a lot of fun to prepare with a small group of friendly strangers.
