Yoko was a terrific guide - her English was perfect, she kept a steady pace, and she knew all the details of the various places. We asked for a more outdoors experience, and she took us to the Hida Folk Village, the morning market, and Shiroyama Park. We had a lovely day outside and we greatly appreciated Yoko's knowledge of the area. Thank you, Yoko!

Highly recommend the private tour! We had an amazing time in Takayama with Annie. We visited the morning market, where she suggested us a few unique shops, such as a fresh peach juice (delicious) and coffee in a coffee in a homemade cookie cup (really unique). Both times we were lucky to get the last available of the day. We saw the festival floats Takayama is know for in the museum, a beautiful shrine and the Takayama Jinya (very interesting to see living and working quarters from the past). She provided us with very interesting insights into all the places and answered all our question, without overwhelming us with information. We also visited the old streets and some very picturesque older buildings. The insights with gardens as a prevention to fire was very interesting. Annie also recommended us 2 local sake breweries. Annie was accomodating to our wishes and helped us buy some green tea from a local shop as a gift. We wanted to buy some green tea in Japan and we're really glad we did it in Takayama. The shop was empty when we arrived (around lunchtime) and Annie helped us understand how to buy the green tea and communicate with the staff, so we were able to try different kinds before deciding. In Kyoto this experience would've probably be a lot more busy and stressful, so we're happy that Annie took us there. In general this tour with Annie (and our time in Takayama outside of the tour) was one of the best experiences we had in our trip in Japan. All in all, we had an amazing time in Takayama, and it's the one city outside of the main attractions I always recommed to people now.

My family and I (9 people) has spent a day in Takayama with Akane Ito. She is very kind and thorough and during our day together, she showed us many interesting things - ranging from historical attractions to small local shops, and even a great barber. Her English is very good and she told us many interesting local stories during the day. Even though our group ranged from small children to seniors, she created a day in such a way that it was interesting for everyone involved. We ended the day at her husbands restaurant, it had great food and a nice authentic atmosphere We warmly recommend a day in Takayama with Akane Ito.

We had an awesome tour with Annie. We started with the morning market and she was terrific with helping us pick out personalized chopsticks and selecting foods that avoided our allergies. It was fun to really learn about this small village. Thanks!!!

The bike ride was nice, and our tour guide was friendly. But he was also unable to answer even the most basic questions about the places we went to--e.g.: the significance of the braided rope in Shintoism. The decision to buy our lunch at a grocery store but not eat it until we had seen another shrine and everyone's cold drinks/food had warmed up was also a strange one. Not a bad time, all in all, but definite room for improvement.

Yoko is a consummate pro. Gracious, knowledgeable, thoughtful, and punctual. Great advance communication, planning support, and on-the-ground flexibility. Fluent English. She is a lovely new friend.

My review is being done late, as I was in Takayama on October 22, 2022. Well then. I would like to commend not only the organization of TripAdvisor, but especially my guide, Yoko Tabata. I was very lucky! Yoko Tabata, in addition to speaking English fluently, knows Takayama in depth with all its historical and cultural particularities, including gastronomy! Thank you for the tips and for the excellent company. Hope to be able to come back soon.

We didn’t know much about Takayama before arriving but our guide, Lily, was so knowledgable we certainly came away knowing a lot more. Lily confidently guided us around the streets of Takayama, taking us to historical sights and areas of cultural interest that we would never have been able to find or understand ourselves. She was kind, friendly and helpful, helping us understand Japanese culture much better. The tour was very insightful as well as being fun and enjoyable along the way. Tour incroyablement intéressant avec Lily. Mes enfants de 13 et de 17 ans ont été tout de suite très à l'aise Lily nous a fait ouvrir un temple, nous a emmené dans différents endroits de Takayama nous permettant de profiter au maximum de notre journée sur place. Elle a tout fait pour qu'on se sente bien, s'est adapté à notre rythme et intérêts et a répondu a toutes les questions très pointues de notre aîné. Je recommande vivement!
