Excellent tour, the canyon is amazing and we saw monkeys and crocodiles. The English guide was amazing and made the tour for us. Highly recommended

We prepaid for our trip online at TripAdvisor. But we were never picked up! The local office said we would be reimbursed.

Sumidero Canyon itself is quite nice. My review is specifically in regards to the tour operator Ecoexperiences. This company advertises, and charges more for, a tour with an English speaking guide and a buffet meal. Neither of those things were provided on my tour, yet the fee remained significantly higher than the normal cost. Trying to get an adjustment from them has resulted in one lie in which they stated they would make an unspecified adjustment that never transpired. My advice, shop price only, the added value features are a scam. You will find I am not the only reviewer here with similar experiences.

My companion was extremely ill with a shattered hip and let someone stay in his room for the night because he's kind and always supports those who have nothing. Unfortunately this person turned out to have a drug addiction and a major bipolar disorder and ended up destroying part of the hotels furniture. Robert, whose name was the reservation was in, could do nothing about this man he couldn't even get out of bed to see what was happening with this crazy person he had let stay in his room. As they were taking Robert to the emergency room, and we were trying to remove his belongings from his room, the hotel would not let us take his things unless I gave them something in return which I did I gave them my $800 phone. Now they will not give it back and are claiming damages from this couch which was worth maybe $50 saying it was apraised is over 2,000! What kind of establishment does this to a man who was nothing but kind, had nothing to do with the damage done to the silly old couch worth probably nothing, and the police have the guy's name and the incident on record of who did actually damage the property yet they're still holding robert, who is still in the hospital, accountable for it. I want my phone back for I had nothing to do with this and was not a guest in the hostel to begin with. I would never stay here again for they will steal your possessions and then claim you owe them thousands of more money than you do! This is the worst place you could ever stay! I'm bringing a lawsuit up against them to get my phone back and taking the police there as well. Don't make a reservation because it'll probably be shut down by the time you get there.

We had a great experience, other than the boat driver was driving the boat erratic (swaying back and forth) to please some of the guests. He was however very knowledgeable about the canyon.

Just breathtaking. I wish I could stop it there but I cannot. You will see crocodiles and spider monkeys. The mountains are unbelievable high and you navigate it on high speed. Prepare a drink and food as you will not get it and sit down for 2 hours at least. But t is worth it

We booked the 6 h tour without the viewpoints (miradores) but found ourselves on a 10 h tour with miradores which was not clear to us in the beginning. If you are staying in San Cristobal book the tour at one of the many tour companies von the street "Real de Guadeloupe", it only costs half of the price here, which means 600 MXN = 30 €. The canyon is absolutely amazing. I would always do the boat trip again. Chiapas is nice. A stay of 1-2 h is sufficient.

We really enjoyed the day trip. Our guide was fantastic and filled us in on the history, culture and legends of the Canyon and area. Cruising through the Canyon was stunning . We saw crocodiles , cormorants, heron, vultures, spider monkeys and more. The Canyon itself is breathtaking. We also saw a waterfall , bird island and dam. Then we went to the quaint pretty town of Chiapas de corzo were our host took us to a tasty restaurant for lunch. Then we drove back up the mountain to get gorgeous birds eye views of the river we had just sailed on. This is a must-see, essential tour.

My daughter and I took this trip together. We went in December and that was a great time to go. The canyon tour started with viewing from above. Then we drove down to the bottom where we went on the boat tour. We both thought is was beautiful and very informative. It is a long day but we’ll worth it.

Magical city with delicious local food; Taking any tour to Cañón del Sumidero is an amazing experience, monumental treasure created by Mother nature, the views are breath taking, of course, take the river boat standard package only one type of tour is offered. Then go to the high view points these offer a magnificent view from a different angle challenging your vertigo! For years wanted to go! I'm looking forward to do it again as first stop to many more wonderful places in the area

We started the day by being packed into a small bus, and no air at the back. We then stopped at 2 photo taking locations for an unnecessary long time. We were then jammed into a boat, even though there were many other boats close by with not many on board. It was great to pull up to a boat to order a Michelada and some snacks… we then zig zagged our way through the canals, stopping every few mins. The longest stop was to wait for everyone to get individual Instagram pics, whilst we just waited. Views were amazing and canyon was great to enjoy by boat, however your was not well managed.

Save money and just pick the Spanish version even if you only speak English… We picked the English version, but our guide was late so he first joined after the boat ride and he did not add ANY value at Chiapa de Corzo as he just sat in the restaurant and ate instead of walking with us in the city, and when we asked what he would recommend us to see while he were there he just said the main square. So just use Google and save some money

We really enjoyed the boat trip to Sumidero Canyon, it was so magic and relaxing to be in such a beautiful natural landscape! Our guide , Jonathan is very knowledgeable about the culture and history of his country and he did make a very good translation through the boat tour! It was nice visiting Chiapa de Corzo, just getting around the central square and having a delicious lunch , though in a crowded local restaurant. The only disadvantage was the price of the tour, a little overestimated because of our guide in English.

This trip is a total scam and should be avoided at all costs. For starters, the price is more than double than those tours readily available locally. We assumed for the price that this tour would at least be private. We arrived at the Canyon tour and were loaded onto a public ferry (cost 250 pesos) with more than 50+ people. There were other tours leaving from the same doc with their own boat. We paid extra for an English guide. This turned out to be a young guy who merely summarised in English what the Spanish tour guide explained in detail. Once at the “Magical town” we weren’t told where the meeting point for the bus was and were left to walk around in the heat. The canyon itself is beautiful but please do yourself a favour and book locally or at least make sure you get a private tour with a knowledgeable guide for the money,

Great tour, guide Eduardo was very friendly. We did share a boat with a group that wasn’t on our tour which we found a little confusing but It didn’t affect our enjoyment. Just

We landed in Tuxtla and were on our way to San Cristobal. Stopped in Chiapa de Corzo and took boat down the amazing Sumidero Canyon all the way to the dam. It is impressive with it's massive walls and wildlife. We did see crocodiles and spider monkeys which I understand is common in the canyon. The boat ride is informative and the driver stops frequently to discuss different geological and natural elements of the canyon. Loved the town of Chiapa de Corzo and make sure to see the beautiful moorish -influenced structure in the town square.

Beautiful!!! We took a tour to the canyon, forgot the name, but there’s so many to choose from. The tour took you along the rim of the canyon, stopping at beautiful lookout points. Once at the bottom we got on a boat and floated on the river. Such a beautiful day in nature. The last stop was at the Mexico Guatemala border. The tour is an all day tour so pack snacks as needed.

So beautiful, an amazing experience and a perfect day! Almost didn't see it because of the wind, so it is not always a guaranteed excursion. The government can close it, even if it is a beautiful day, but the winds are higher. They opened after we thought we would miss it. Don't miss it!

The moment we neared the boat landing we were bombarded by salespeople selling tours for the Cañón de Sumidero. Because we didn’t know we hired a boat for 1200mxn (5 people) to take us on the tour (leaving from Chiapa del Corzo). We were promised an amazing tour where we’d see tons of wildlife, the cañón as well as other points of interest, but it turns out that they only take you to the entrance point of the cañón where security checks people for wristbands to actually enter the Cañón part. When we arrived to the checkpoint the boat driver turned around and told us that we were heading back because he didn’t have a license to enter the actual Cañón. So what did we see? We had a 45 min boat ride each way, saw 1 crocodile and no amazing cañón walls and then were pressured into giving a nice tip to the boat driver for seeing basically nothing. It definitely wasn’t what we were expecting and would never recommend leaving from Chiapa del Corzo. We ended up taking another tour the next day from the Cahuares embarcadero which is so much better, and we actually got to see the amazing Cañón and a lot of wildlife. So save your money and avoid leaving from Chiapa del Corzo and just go to the Cahaures Embarcadero.
