This is an absolute fabulous tour. Laura was so knowledgeable and very accommodating. I had reserved for the wrong date and she was willing to change the date to the next day without any issues. We met at the Sheraton Hotel. We visited 4 different places. We had starters that included cheeses, sausage, veggies. We then had cheese pastries that were from a local place. She actually had to wait in line to get it because the place was that busy. We had lunch at La Mama and had their local sausage and fish and great beer. Finally we got to have eclairs from French Revolution Eclairs. Everything tasted great she also gave us lots of information about Bucharest and its history. She also gave us recs on other places to see and do. Definitely worth the money.

Fantastic experience with Laura! Not only did we learn about Romanian food and drink, but she also taught us about the history of the country, from her unique personal perspective. She has fabulous English and a broad knowledge of Romania and the Balkans. She is thoughtful and enthusiastic. She really liked answering our questions and satisfying our curiosity. Don’t eat a big breakfast before going on this tour! The food is tasty “peasant food” (Laura’s description) and there is plenty of it! We even had delicious exquisite eclairs!!

Our food tour in Bucharest was our favorite part of our visit to Romania. Laura was a great guide who showed us interesting parts of the city, taught us fascinating things about Romania's history, and, most important, fed us all sorts of great food! We had a wonderful time with Laura and recommend this tour for anyone who is hungry and curious.

We had a fantastic tour with our guide Emma. We were lucky enough to have our own private tour with her! All the food stops were so delicious, our favourite being the eclairs. Emma was so knowledgeable about the history of Romania and Bucharest, as well as the food stops Emma showed us some of the great sites and architecture of the city. She also provided us with an amazing list of recommendations of things to do and eat for the rest of our time in Bucharest. 100% would recommend!

The food and cultural tour was definitely a highlight of our weeks stay in Bucharest thanks to Laura. Her knowledge, genuine kindhearted nature and most importantly her smiley happy personality was a breath of fresh air. We highly recommend doing this tour early in your stay and don’t have breakfast. Thanks again Laura for a fabulous afternoon.

Laura provided us an "insiders" view of Bucharest. After numerous visits to places of interest on our river cruise, I was so appreciative of "her history" with the City. We went to some great out of the way restaurants that were amazing! But more so, the great conversations led by Laura that helped me better understand the culture of Bucharest...best evening of the whole journey! Thanks Laura for a great ending to our cruise!

Laura was a great guide. We got to know her and share her insights not just of the city or the food but of life in general for locals

I don't review often, but I so enjoyed this tour and wanted to share that. Laura is a great guide - enthusiastic, knowledgeable, personable, committed to her community. This is a food tour, and that's the focus, but it's more than that as you get a sense of the history and place as well as you walk to and between the stops. I particularly enjoyed that it's not in the old town, where anyone could find endless places to eat, but in an area that I wouldn't have seen otherwise with places that locals clearly frequent. Highly recommend Laura's food and culture tour in Bucharest.

We took an add-on excursion after our Avalon cruise. The food was delicious, generous portions and lots of interesting, off-beat sights. The tour guide, Laura was very knowledgeable and very entertaining. We learned some interesting things about Bucharest history and food. I would recommend this tour to anyone.

This was an add-on to our river cruise with Avalon. Our guide took us to several different establishments and told us much about Romania's culture and history in the process. The food was good and there were choices for all tastes including vegetarian.

Our amazing host was Sinziana. She made our afternoon so very enjoyable and informative. My wife & I (only ones on the tour that day) especially enjoyed lunch at the 1st stop: a traditional inner-city family restaurant in a garden setting. We even had the opportunity to meet the cooks and tour the kitchen. Every stop was excellent. But the true highlight was our guide. She weaved Romanian history & her family stories into every step we walked. To the local provider, Laura: please thank Sinziana for providing us with a very delicious and personal experience.

Emma was so incredibly informative. She explained all of the different governments that have occurred in Romania over the past 80 years. As we moved from food destination to destination she gave us examples of what the area looked like during the era of the royalty, the communists and then now. She had pictures to show the destruction, the importance of different dates and the people’s lives. On to the food… very traditional, interesting and plenty of it. We started with Balmos,, White bean Hummus, vegetables and then moved on to Sarmale, Mici. For desert we started with Placenta cu Branza (cheese pastry) and then moved on to Eclarts. Eclarts are a Romanian evention combining a tart with an eclair. We definitely over fed and enlightened regarding Romanian history when we finished. Thank you Emma.

My wife and I have heard numerous people discussing something they referred to as gastro-tourism motivating us to do some research. We learned that there are several variations on the theme ranging from groups of people gathering to dine in a restaurant: smaller gathering (in our case two people) dining together on their own or finally a guided tour sampling multiple venues and offering an ongoing commentary about the food/history/social relevance of the experience. During a recent visit to Bucharest Romania, we secured a gastro-tour through Tours by Locals. Our guide, Laura G., met us at our hotel and explained her plan for the day. She stated that she would be including a running narrative on the sights, a detailed the history of both the country and city (including architectural highlights) as well as comprehensive explanations of the food items. Laura was knowledgeable, amicable, informative, and more than capable. Her in depth knowledge of the local eateries and Romanian cuisine allowed us to experience the city on a more personal level. Our first stop was in an off the beaten track restaurant that operated out of a garden between two homes built in the 1800s. Our food was prepared in front of us on an outdoor wood burning stove. The first course was a sampler (12 x 24-inch wooden platter) consisting of: smoked meat, fresh vegetables, Romanian humus (garlic and white beans), baba ghanoush, local cheeses all served with local bread. It was followed by a sour soup that was delicious. From there we walked to a out of the way bakery where we sampled puffy pastries (sweet and savory). Our next stop was a very popular restaurant where we again dined in a garden and feasted on stuffed cabbage leaves and skinless sausages grilled to perfection over an open fire. Our last stop was an eclair shop that offered multiple options to choose from. The establishments we visited were all frequented by locals and we appeared to be the only tourist present. She was more than willing to answer all questions regarding Bucharest past and present. Her candid answers gave us a better understanding of the city and made the experience deeply personal. We highly recommend this guide when in Bucharest Romania.

Laura was an excellent guide introducing us to the delicious Romanian cuisine! She was such a pleasure to discuss not only food but all things Romanian. My only additional recommendation when booking this is don't make dinner plans!
