One of the highlights of our trip was this small, creative, educational museum. There is a lot of history and great content packed into this place that told an amazing story. It is well laid out, almost the size of a very large house, not overwhelming. Even with everything we knew about the crash, we learned so many interesting tidbits, makes me want to go back and research the crash even more.

This is a must-see museum only if you are familiar with the subject (movies that you saw or any other information). the museum shows many details and objects taken from the plane crash area.

Very interesting museum that gives a good understanding of the events that took place. I recommend watching the movie Society of Snow before you go, which will give you some context.

Surprisingly comprehensive, and presented with great sensitivity. You really come away understanding the impact this had on Uruguay's national culture at the time and how it continues to be part of people's memories. The only quibbles we had was it was incredibly humid throughout the building (but that's true of most places we visited) and the bathroom facilities leave something to be desired.

A small museum, with few original items and several reproductions, including photos. Panels with very long texts. Objects appear unprofessionally organized. The victims and survivors deserved a bigger and better memorial. Only go if you have time to spare.

This was a fascinating and informative exhibition presented in a very sensitive way. Certainly a ‘must see’ out of all the cultural attractions in Montevideo

This museum was very moving and very interesting as this was an extremely important event in the national life of Uruguay. The words of the survivors, and their lifelong quest following to recreate (back in the world) the sense of community, love and selflessness that these brave kids created in their 'society of the snow', was very emotional and inspiring. What a story.

This outstanding museum depicts the life-affirming survival struggle of passengers whose airplane crashed into the Andes. With good detail the museum traces the path of the plane, the friendships and cooperation needed to survive, the daily life, death and struggles of the survivors, letters to families, the weather and terrain conditions, enabling visitors to comprehend the experience. Exhibits include many pieces from the actual crash, plus survival gear the passengers constructed from the airplane’s lining and wiring. Dangers of starvation, the weather, the mental and physical deprivations are carefully unraveled to reveal the courage and strength that kept the brave survivors alive.

I went to this museum with my dad this past week and it was truly incredible. Everything went into extreme detail and I got to really understand the story in a way that I hadn't before, getting all the specifics. This museum is an ode to everyone who lost their lives in this tragic accident and it feels a lot more personal than watching the movies or reading about the story because you get to see different letters and tidbits from their lives. There were so many visual aids and replicas along with many real artifacts and objects that were found after the crash which helped connect the people to the story. This museum is definitely worth the visit and there is so much information and knowledge that can be gained from it. Also incredibly english-friendly with translations for all the boards and notes along with timelines that help connect the days after the crash to real-life events that were happening during the time. Everyone was incredibly friendly, I highly recommend making the stop in to see this, you definitely will not regret it. This was what my dad thought: My third visit to this gem of a museum, and every time I discover/ learn something new. PROs: - Engaging, well curated and fully bilingual (Spanish/ English) exhibits that bring to life the 2-month ordeal in the Andes - Interesting videos with current footage of the site as well as interviews with the survivors - Great historical context and immersion into life in the 1970s, both from a geopolitical and daily living perspective - Rewarding both for a quick 30-minute tour or for a more exhaustive 2-hour visit - Great location in downtown Montevideo, just steps from restaurants and cafes CONs: - Location in a converted historic building can feel a bit tight. - Challenging to navigate for visitors with limited mobility (steep stairs) Overall: A gripping story of survival, inventiveness and teamwork, recommended for anyone both with and without prior knowledge of the Andes disaster. Well-suited for international visitors and for those with teenage kids.

An incredible story of survival presented in a very thoughtful and thought provoking way. I found this presentation evoked emotions if sympathy and empathy for people I had never met. In my eyes this is a must visit museum while in Montevideo

Enjoyed spending some time in this museum. The curator is a nice chap who took some time to explain some details that weren’t obvious. If you’re at all familiar with the movie or with the plane crash and the ensuing ordeal of the survivors, it’s well worth your time. Note that they don’t take cards at the door, though you can buy a ticket on TripAdvisor while you’re waiting to get in.

This is a world class museum dedicated to what some would call a tragedy but also a testament to the tenacity of man and to how a group worked so well to survive. It is WELL worth a visit. After your visit watch the new movie 'Society of Snow' on Neflix.

What the crash victims went through was terrible, but to see their thoughts as some them died and the stories from the survivors is very emotional. We knew the story and were very glad we took the time to see everything at the museum.

Its a very interesting place to learn about this tragic crash, it has text in english and spanish. My favorite part is the copies of the newspapers, where you can read the actual reaction of the people at the time.

A museum about a tragedy might sound like the last thing you want to experience while exploring sunny Montevideo, but this Museo Andes 1972 Crash Memorial is worth 2-3 hours of your time even if you're only visiting one day. There's fascinating movies, and a lot of the actual wreckage from the disaster. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and speak excellent English The experience is moving, humbling and fills you with gratitude. It's a vital moment of reflection and the sort of experience you won't have anywhere else.
