Going through the palace with a seasoned tour guide was perfect. From recommendations at the bakery to an amazing narrative as we drove around the area of Sintra and Cascais was just the best. What a beautiful way to spend a day. Our guide Sandra was prompt, friendly very knowledgeable and witty. Her English is excellent which served our group well. We enjoyed her extensive knowledge of Portugal's history, landscape and customs. The scenery is exceptional and Sintra and Cascais are charming. Definitely an excursion worth planning for.

This is a 5+ tour. Sandra was so informative and friendly. The Pena Palace worth the visit but made even better with Sandra's knowledge. We tasted the "pillows" in Sintra and enjoyed a wonderful lunch in Cascia based on recommendation of Sandra. We absolutely recommend this tour!!!!! A most for visit to Lisbon area.

If you are fortunate enough like we were to have Luis as your tour guide, you will have an amazing, thorough and fun filled day. The history and information he shared about the sites visited, towns and Lisbon/Portugal history was bar none! Luis always offered to take family pictures of us. He often shared his recommendations for food and encouraged us to peruse before making a final decision. We never felt rushed, he shared excellent historical information with us. He was receptive to questions asked. We thoroughly enjoyed our whole day, private tour with Luis!! It was our last full day in Portugal. We were ready to go before 8:00 am, and already our private tour guide/driver Luis was outside the hotel waiting. And with good reason - we drove up, up, up to the Pena Palace about 15 miles northwest of Lisbon, and arrived ahead of the crowds and Vatican-length admission line. Luis was an overflowing well of information during the drive up, then (after a brief walk through the surrounding gardens) whisked us through the Palace entry. He led us in and out of sections and rooms, explaining the Palace's history and resulting mish-mash of architecture with genuine fervor and the occasional joke. After the Pena Palace we headed to the town of Sintra for coffee and "pillows" (an incredible Portuguese pastry) at a local shop, then off to the cliffs and raging waves at Cabo da Roca, the western-most point of Europe. Luis regaled us with tales of how, way back when, people believed the world was flat and ended there - venture further and you'd fall off the edge! A stop and a stroll in Coney Island-like Cascais followed, while Luis went to grab some lunch. We met up after, stopped for a second at the Casino Estoril (which Luis informed us was the inspiration for Ian Fleming's "Casino Royale"), and breezed along the highway back to Lisbon. As far as tour guides, Luis Oliveira is the king - knowledgable, entertaining and trustworthy. Anyone who books a No Map Tour should be lucky enough to get Luis!

This is was a highlight for us. The 8 hours flew by and Sandra was an excellent guide. We all said if it was not for her we would have not enjoyed Pena palace as she gave great info.

They quickly responded to my questions before I booked and followed up with details and confirmation before the tours started. The tours were well-paced and informative, and gave us a great appreciation for Portuguese history and culture. Sandra was our guide for all three tours. She guided us inside Peña Palace and provided many details. She took great care of my elderly parents and adjusted the trips to accommodate their physical limitations and interests. Sandra is also a terrific driver, especially through the narrow streets to Peña Palace. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide and are so glad that we chose No Map Tours for our first visit to Portugal.
