Jim was an amazing tour guide, not just knowledgeable about local cuisine but a great window into a fascinating and evolving culture. He was amazing at making recommendations and making the time together as rich as possible.

I cannot recommend this tour highly enough! Jim is friendly and warm and as a local Shanghainese, incredibly knowledgeable about Chinese and Shanghai history and culture. The local, often family-owned businesses that we visited on this tour were interesting, varied and the food was very high quality (special shout-out to the excellent coffee, beautiful fruit shop, the gorgeous tea house and outstanding xiao long bao dumplings on the final stop). Jim provides history and context to the area, the buildings, the history, the food and culture. A fantastic tour - three hours flew by with interesting conversation, a gentle and easy walk and incredible food. Thank you Jim for a wonderful experience.

I’ve done a LOT of food tours - Europe, Anericas and Asia and this is the best I’ve experienced. Jim is a local, perfect English speaker and knows not only the local places to dine but also can talk you thru the history of the French Concessions as well. 3 hours flew - walking is easy & you get to see back streets life you’d otherwise miss in between delicious eating and tea drinking. Highly recommend this to anyone who wants to sample and see Shanghai with a knowledgeable guide!

A perfect way to get to know the city and the Chinese food! Highly recommend for anyone visiting Shanghai! My tour guide met me at the agreed spot, we walked around and then he actually assisted me in getting back to my hotel room. We walked around the city. He would talk about the culture, customs and he would make me try different food. This tour is perfect for anyone to who wants to try local food! Make sure you bring your appetite!

My friend and I absolutely loved this breakfast food tour! We were lucky to be the only ones on the tour and were able to ask Jim all sorts of questions about the food and history of Shanghai and the French Concession. Jim was an absolutely fantastic, friendly, knowledgeable guide and as a Shanghainese native it was wonderful to have his perspective on Shanghai has grown and changed. And all the food was too good! We would have never been able to find those kinds of local little establishments ourselves and everything tasted incredible. As lover of xiao long bao, this was the best I’ve ever had and I’ll be thinking about it and all the other food for a long time to come. I also loved the experience of having tea at a local tea shop. The tour was also really well spaced so that although we ate a lot, we walked a good amount which meant we didn’t leave the tour feeling painfully full.

In this walking tour you will duck and dive between traditional tea houses, historic communist party offices, soup kitchens, fruit stores, wet markets, noodle kitchens and much more. All while discussing life in China back in the day as well as today. An enriching - and filling- experience!!!

Jim is a supremely articulate, knowledgable, and warm guide, happy to field any variety of inquiry about Shanghai with keen insight and an objective depth of understanding about the city and its history. He's just straight up good company. The food stops are a great insight into the less-trodden pockets of Shanghai for visiting foreigners, and quite enjoyable. I'd highly recommend this tour to any curious person.

My husband and I had an amazing time on this breakfast tour. Jim is a Shanghai native and he was an excellent guide to the former French Concession neighborhood. We sipped fancy coffee with young hipsters, ate fried dough and soy milk with construction workers, sampled local fruits, toured a farmer's market, drank traditionally-prepared tea, and learned the proper way to eat soup dumplings, among many other things!! This was such a wonderful introduction to beautiful, vibrant city. I 100% recommend this tour!!

Jim was a great guide. I was the only person on the tour but we still had a great time. We ate many local food and Jim also explained about the history of the area, local lifestyles and well as many other interesting topics. We went to places I would not have been able to find on my own, all the customers were locals and it was a refreshing experience! Totally recommended!

Stop scrolling! This is the tour that you must take in Shanghai! This is not just breakfast tour. This is food / history / culture of Shanghai tour! The guide is a native Shanghainese, and he presented food and Shanghai's history in a very interesting and easy ways. I was captivated the whole trip! He took me too places where I would have never found myself - a regular American dude who doesn't speak Mandarin. All the foods were very delicious. Also, he took me to some trendy places where young Shanghai generation frequents like boba and yogurt places as deserts. If you don't take this tour, you are missing out.

I had the most tasty time doing this tour. The guide was brilliant, gave me so much information about food culture in China, and added some history as well. We ate traditional delicacies and even tasted Chinese tea in a traditional Chinese tea shop, an unforgettable experience. My guide answered all my questions, and we walked the most interesting streets and parks. After the tour, I understood more about Chinese food, China's history, and the fascinating city of Shanghai.
