I had such a wonderful day with the crew from Cove Adventure Tours. What friendly people who took me to San Josef Bay. Chris behind the wheel, together with Brookes and June, knew a lot about the area. On the way we came across a black bear with cubs. Euphoric!! Super cool!! Glad I went with Cove Adventure Tours because driving this road myself was not an option. Lots to see along the way. What a beautiful environment, overwhelming, and therefore a bit speechless. I really enjoyed the view, the smell, the colors, and everything there was to see. June was able to tell us a lot during the walk through the rainforest about the plants that grew there, etc. Nice walk across San Josef Bay, June explained what was growing and blooming, beautiful anemones, seastacks, wow what nature, had lunch with sandwiches that June handed out and then walked back through the rainforest and back by bus. Once on the bus we came across another black bear with cubs. Finally saw 8 black bears. Amazing. What a great day, fun, information, top crew, good communication via email. I would recommend anyone to go to San Josef Bay with Cove Adventure Tours

Our visit to Cape Scott Provincial Park and San Josef Bay was the highlight of our visit to the top end of Vancouver Island. I highly recommend you stay two nights in Port Hardy, or other surrounding towns, so that you have a full day to access the park. We drove two hours each way on logging roads, to reach the park, but it was worth it. There is a picturesque 45 minute easy walk through the park to the beach. Be sure to visit around low tide so that you can see the beautiful sea stacks on the beach, with trees and other plant life growing out the top.

Brooks, our guide for the day, drove us through miles of bumpy roads, past several active logging sites to the trailhead leading to San Josef Bay. The hike to the Bay and the beach around the Bay are beautiful. Brooks knowledge and enthusiasm made the adventure memorable. Be ready for a few miles of bumpy road, but don't miss this experience.

This tour was the highlight of our trip to north Vancouver Island! Brookes was an enthusiastic guide and June was just as passionate about her love of northern Vancouver Island. We couldn't drive the logging roads from Port Hardy to San Josef Bay with our rental car and we're glad we didn't. Instead, we relaxed and listened to interesting and entertaining stories on our way to the beach with a few stops along the way. The walk through the old growth forest was amazing, and the huge expanse of pristine sandy beaches with the gentle surf rolling in was awesome. Brookes and June let us take our time exploring the beaches and sea stacks. We had delicious sandwiches and fresh fruit for lunch. June gave me some helpful hints as I was taking pictures, and Brookes took us up a short trail to a great lookout. On the drive back, we stopped to take in the wonder of a massive Sitka Spruce. The scenery was incredible and our guides were fantasic. I highly recommend this tour.

I'm not sure how else my group and I would have made it out to experience the breath-taking San Josef Bay. To get to this remote beach, the tour starts with a drive through rugged, dusty and winding logging roads that no average vehicle would make without a flat tire (or two!). Once we arrived at the trailhead, we embarked on a casual hike on a well-maintained path through beautiful old growth forest. After 45 minutes or so of walking, you start to smell the ocean breeze and the forest opens up to the expansive sights of San Josef Bay beach where we were quickly guided to see the sea stacks and time-sensitive tidal pools before the tide came in. Once we covered the must-sees, we had independent time to enjoy lunch and explore the rest of the beach where my friends and I even took a quick, chilly dip in the ocean! A big thank you goes out to our delightful and charismatic guides, Chris and June. They made this trip a unique experience, shared their expert knowledge of the area, and most importantly ensured our safety throughout the entire drive and hike. I would recommend this tour to anyone who is looking for an easy, relaxing, active outdoor day trip with no stress.

Getting to the remote parts along the rutted dusty trail road with radio contact with logging trucks was and important part of experience. So many questions come to mind driving along and I really enjoyed learning and digging into what makes these remote areas tick. It fun chatting and learning with Chris and June who are passionate and respectful to this incredible place. The walking track in was very well groomed gravel trail and quite comfortable for an old dog like me. Watching the ospray hit the water. Did it catch a fish. I will never no but it was so cool to watch it return to the woods anticipating at any moment the fish would be seen clutched in its claws. The winter swells roll in the bay and I would love to see the surfers shoot along and have fun. Lunch we had a sandwhich in a cave. This was a fantastic tour and the guides worked over time to ensure we got the most from our experience

I cannot recommend Cove Adventure Tours highly enough. Chris and June took an incredible adventure to the next level with their genuine enthusiasm and knowledge. From explaining the logging process as we travelled the active logging roads, to anecdotes of local personalities, to spending time pointing out the incredible sea creatures that were visible due to an exceptionally low tide, their excitement in sharing the wonders of the northern island was infectious! Gracious hosts and ambassadors that made our trip a 14/10.

Today was a wonderful day. Our host, owner of Cove Adventure, was a perfect guide. He picked us up at 8:30 am, drove us to Cape Scott Park and spent the day filling us on local lore, the area's history, logging operations (we drove part of the way on logging roads), trees (the biggest trees on Vancouver Island), plants and sea shore creatures, etc. We hike to San Josef Bay, an easy hike. It was a relaxing day because he makes it so easy. Wonderful day. I highly recommend booking an adventure with Cove Adventure in Port Hardy.

Long drive to the start point of hiking but the hike itself was easy, with beautiful views, huge trees, etc. We even saw a bear. Chris and June, our tour guides, we’re nice and very helpful . Lots of stories from Chris about the history and nature. 5 stars for the tour.

Brooks was an excellent guide. Loves to chat to has a bit of knowledge on everything you can see out the window :) which made for a pleasant and entertaining day! We went to San Josef Bay which is beautiful and although many people drive themselves there, the road is an active logging road and a bit dangerous in that regard (tour guides have a radio to know about on-coming logging truck traffic). We did encounter a truck and had to back-up quickly to a wider spot in the road so the truck would have room to pass us. A little nerve-wracking if I had been driving myself. It was a great experience but if you have been to some of the other wide-open wild beaches of BC you may want to weigh the cost. We had a great day as the place is stunningly beautiful, however having lived on the Island we've seen similar places... that said our guide made the trip super enjoyable and we had a fantastic day.

Delightful trip to San Josef Bay. Brook was a good safe driver and offered a commentary on driving the road, a stop in Holberg and a side trip to the largest tree in BC. Did not want to hike this alone, nor try the road in our Jeep. Pleased with the Cove Adventure choice. The weather smiled on us. The trail is a sturdy sneaker hike. I brought hiking poles and could have left them behind.

Kris was an excellent guide and very professional. His fascination and love of the area was in each his word when he introduced the trail and San Josef Bay beach. The logging road was very bumpy but still exciting because of the beauty of the place. It was an awesome day! Thank you Kris!!!

Brooke was an excellent guide, introducing you to the beauty of the place (San Josef's Bay and the park with a variety of scenaries) and very, very relaxed and even-keeled and still very professional. He is becoming a legend, no he already is one. His fascination and love of the whole area and the quirkiness of Vancouver Island and Port Hardy and Northern BC are infectious. The logging roads are very bouncy, so be prepared. It was exciting, singular, but not risky. Moreover, wouldn't want to drive my car on that road and have it pockmarked from the rocks that other cars and trucks throw up.

What an outstanding tour this was! San Josef Bay is one of the most beautiful spots I have ever visited. What made the day even more special was Brookes' passion about the area and nature. He pointed out many interesting things, and his joy about the beauty around us was infectious. Highly recommended, thank you!

Our tour with Cove Adventure Tours was the first part of a birthday celebration trip with my girlfriends to British Columbia. We had such a fantastic day with Brookes and Chris (aka Fat Sean) who clearly love what they do. Both were very easy going, accommodating and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend taking the San Josef Bay Tour. You will learn so much about this small part of Vancouver Island. Such a great start to our trip and certainly will remain a special memory. Thanks guys! Jen (aka Thirty)
