The most amazing experience in Peru! We were a group of 13 and made it to Machu Picchu on 26 April. Our main guide Isao was super thoughtful and helpful throughout the entire trek. He always has a big bright smile despite the challenges we faced (difficult first day hike and 2 mudslides on the way). He is extremely passionate about sharing his Quechua culture and way of life and a great story teller too. Wilberth was always patient and made sure everyone in the group stayed safe and comfortable. Fredy our chef made sure we are well fed and have a happy stomach throughout the entire trek. It’s impressive how he made those complicated and yummy dishes at high altitude. The porters were great in making sure our duffel bags are safely delivered each night and the tents are set up safely. Overall I would strongly recommend anyone doing the Salkantay trek to go with Alpaca expeditions. It was extremely well organised and everything was perfect. Thank you team!

Details: Request Raul if possible for your head guide as his knowledge sharing, humor, responsibility for the group, and love for people/land is of the highest quality. Hot, delicious, local food prepped three times a day by an amazing chef Mr. Alejandro, the food alone is worth the trip. I tried carrying one of the porters backpacks up the trail a bit and its a burden, but these guys leave later than us, pass us on the trail and then set up camp and have things ready when we arrive. Beast mode to Porters Alfredo, Joseph, and Santos, trekking the packs through steep, muddy terrain. Ismael was our guide always making sure people in back were okay and hiking with them, making sure they had motivation and company. He has a great sense of humor, oh my gato! Cant wait to go on another trip with him. All this is to say Alpaca hugely exceeded my expectations and I normally dont do multiple treks in one area, but I will definitely do multiple with this biz. So perfectly organized.. Thanks to all the green machines out there! We sure do appreciate everything you do. Blessings to you and your families!

We did the 5 day 5 night Salkantay trek with Carlos as our guide. The trek itself was beautiful, filled with scenic views! Ending the journey at Machu Picchu ruins was the cherry on top. Even better than the experience in the journey was our time with our guide, Carlos. He was insanely accommodating, knowledgeable, and an all around good time to be around. I would ask for Carlos to be the guide if you were to go. Also, the crew accompanying us was great as well :)

First time doing a multi-day hike and couldn’t have asked for a better team to go with. Carlos, our tour guide, as well as Teo our chef, Clever our assistant chef, and Alex our porter were all so amazing and friendly.

I cannot recommend these amazing guys enough. Our two guides, Rolando and Celcio, our head chef Walter and the amazing porters made this a trip of a life time. This was the most beautiful trek I have ever experienced and will be back to Peru to do another with them!

I’m so late with writing this review, but I couldn’t not share what a wonderful experience the 5Day Inca Trail tour had been for our family of 6 (including a 9 year-old)! We love to travel, and this trip is still the highlight we go back to constantly when talking to people. RONY and YOEL were AMAZING!!! So much knowledge, so much fun, so much enthusiasm and clear love for the country and the people they represent! The co-travelers in our group were incredible, as were the guides and all the wonderful, tireless staff. These people really do what they do with such enthusiasm! Couldn’t recommend a better tour, with better tour guides!!!

Our trek to Machu Picchu via the Salkantay Trek with Alpaca Expeditions was absolutely phenomenal, largely thanks to our incredible guide, Raul. He was not just a guide but a true guardian, ensuring our safety and comfort with utmost professionalism, especially when two group members struggled with altitude sickness. Raul's expertise and seamless management of extra logistics made our experience worry-free and enjoyable. His extensive knowledge of Machu Picchu and his delightful sense of humor kept our spirits high throughout the journey. He’s also really good at taking pictures 💯💯💯 Moreover, our chef Flavio and his team served up some truly impressive meals that were both delicious and nourishing, fueling us for the challenging treks each day. We loved the fresh whole foods and veggies, and special accommodations for our group’s various dietary needs. Alpaca Expeditions also were able to manage a special four-day itinerary around the Salkantay trek to match our schedule. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. If you're planning a trek in Peru, Raul is absolutely the best guide you could hope for, and we highly recommend him and Alpaca Expeditions for an adventure that goes beyond expectations. They genuinely make sure you have a blast!

This trek was such a unique and incredible experience. Overall I had a great time and would highly recommend it to people looking for a unique adventure and are very physically fit. A few notes I wish I knew before: - I don’t believe the level of fitness mentioned on the website quite reflects how difficult this hike is, especially the first day. It is incredibly challenging, and made more challenging by the altitude. - early season (April) is very difficult to predict what weather you will get so be ok with getting wet and possibly having to cross landslides (we had a day that we crossed a few, which was scary but the guides were incredibly knowledgeable and trusting). - sometimes it felt like we had to push our hiking faster and it made it difficult to pause and enjoy the views and nature. Sometimes the “journey is the destination” didn’t feel true. - while I didn’t rent the companies gear, I heard overall negative things about the quality of the sleeping bags, liners, and pads. It sounds like they’re due for a new set. With all that being said, I would go back and do it again. I pushed my physical capabilities to the max, I have unforgettable memories from that week, and made friends with other hikers that I hope continue long after the trek. The guides were incredible, positive, encouraging, and so knowledgeable about the terrain, culture, and wildlife.

We had an amazing experience with Alpaca Adventures every single interaction we had with them. From the chef, our tour guide, other tour guides, and the office staff who allowed us to store our bags in the office during the trek and afterwards when we had checked out of our hotel but had the whole day in Cusco we had nothing but great experiences with them. Food: Our chef was Santos who made fantastic food for every single meal. Breakfast was always some bread, porridge, some kind of egg dish, fruit, and a granola type bar to carry during the day. Lunch and dinner were always started with a soup, a vegetable salad, a chicken/beef dish, and a potato dish (special shoutout for the fried yucca cakes that were delicious.). For amounts of food, they will give you as much as you can finish. If you (the group) finish everything you will get more; if you don’t finish you will get less food next time so there is no going hungry during this trip. After the first full day we had a chance to meet the kitchen staff and you have an opportunity to thank them and tell them what you do and don’t like. For example, we told them that we really enjoyed the fried yucca cakes and for each lunch afterwards they made those fried yucca cakes for us. I cannot say enough good things about the food. Bravo Santos. Our tour guide was Honorato who we absolutely loved. He was incredibly knowledgeable about anything and everything we encountered on the trail. From answering questions about all the different wildflowers and plants we saw to explaining to us how life is for the different communities we passed along the way. (The tour guides have to attend university!) At one point we had to cross an active (but slow moving) landslide and he bravely assisted each one of us as we passed through one-by-one putting himself in danger the whole time. He also joined our group in pre-dinner card games and is a genuinely nice and fun guy to hangout with. The other tour guides were very nice as well but I am so glad that we had Hono as our guide. We were the only two in our group that did Huayna Picchu after the Machu Picchu tour so our group went back to town before us. After completing that tour a totally different Alpaca tour group allowed us to join their group and bus back to town essentially allowing us to skip at least an 1+ hour long line for a bus to town which allowed us enough time to get lunch before catching the train back to Cusco. That other group had no obligation to let us hop on their bus. This just goes to show the kind of people that work for Alpaca and the kind of treatment you can expect from them. We were a group of 2 20 something’s and got out with another group of 5 20 something’s for the hike. This worked very well because the pace and energy levels in the group were matching. I believe this was an intentional decision by Alpaca because there were two other groups also doing the 5D/5N Salkantay at the same time which were comprised of the older hikers that moved at their own pace. Our guide Hono made sure that we left early enough and kept up a good enough pace so that we made it to camp every day before dark which we all really appreciated. I cannot think of a single negative thing to say about Alpaca Adventures or our experiences with them and I absolutely highly recommend doing your tour with Alpaca Adventures. Thank you Hono, Santos, and everyone at Alpaca for the trip of a lifetime!

The program was challenging but had amazing experience! Pillco and Alpaca Expedition team provided an unforgettable experience. Highly recommend for anyone who loves nature and hard hike! Food, views, people, and guides were amazing. One downside was altitude sickness. Dont forget to take an altitude sickness pill before this trip.

I LOVED the trek with alpaca expeditions. We did the 5D/5N Salkantay experience and I couldn’t believe how smooth things went. Our guides Juan Carlos Zuloaga and Wilbert were extremely helpful and supportive throughout the entire trek, and had a great balance of educating us on different things, but also letting us enjoy the experience. Our chef Alejandro made some DELICIOUS food and even went out of his way to make a birthday cake for my friend. And our chief porter Julio and the rest of our porters were efficient with handling our bags. It was so nice to be able to keep the necessities during the day and not worry about hauling everything we brought. The experience itself was amazing, the views were breathtaking, and I’m so grateful for the experience! It wasn’t too crowded either which was the cherry on top, up until the last two days we only saw one or two other groups. I highly recommend this trek with Alpaca Expeditions!

This Trek and experience couldn’t have been better!! Our guides Juan Carlo and Wilber were so informative, motivating and kind to all us! They kept us safe and motivated through out the trek and had smiles the whole time!! The rest of their staff, porters, and chef Alejandro were incredible and I was amazed at the food they were able to prepare out in the wilderness! They were so accommodating to each of our needs from diets to luggage transporation! This was a trip I will never forget!

This tour was incredible! From the views along the Salkantay trek to the breath taking views of Machu Picchu, which made the whole journey all worthwhile. Our guide, porters and cook were beyond incredible! The chef (Roni) prepared many delicious meals from breakfast to dinner and we were even fortunate enough to be treated to a homemade cake on the last day! The porters were admirable, I honestly can’t imagine having to do their job, carrying duffel bags and other essentials through many different types of terrains and paths. Our guide was Juan Carlos Pillco, and we couldn’t have asked for a more understanding, patience, knowledgeable and approachable guide. At times, a few of us struggled with the altitude (didn’t last long I would not let this differ anyone who is considering this trek) and our Pillco was quick to help and support anyone who needed it! This trip was amazing and the staff we were lucky to be partnered with only amplified this experience! Could not recommend this enough!!!

The experience was amazing! Our guide Pillco was incredible. He shared so much history and knowledge with us. When we struggled uphill and with altitude sickness Pilco was ready to help and encouraged us to keep going. He had an answer for every question and is the best guide I’ve experienced on any trop I’ve ever been on. Our chef Roni was also fantastic. I wasn’t expecting such amazing food to be produced in the middle of the mountains. Every day he delivered satisfying and delicious dishes to fuel us on in our hike! I’m blown away by what the porters do too. How they carry so much and still do the hike at 3 times our pace is outstanding. On our trip thé my got stuck at the last town before Aguas Calientes due to a landslide. But that didn’t stop them. They spent all night with the locals rebuilding a bridge that had been knocked down so that we could get our duffle bags to us before we got to Cusco! Absolutely incredible! Thank you to Juan Carlos Pillco and all the gang for an amazing adventure!

By far the best guided trek we have ever done! We did the 5D/5N Salkantay Trek with Alpaca Expeditions and from start to finish everything went perfectly! Thanks to our whole team! Starting with the guide Javier Aranzabal, who took care of the whole organisation during the tour; Yadira, the second tour guide; the cook Gregorio, who conjured up a huge selection of dishes for every lunch and dinner, we always had a choice of 7 different dishes and nothing was ever repeated, on the last day there was even a cake! And last but not least, thanks to all the porters, without whom the trek would not have been possible and who kept everything dry in the rain, which was nothing short of a miracle. The team supported our group perfectly, we always felt like a family and they made it possible for everyone to go at their own pace and still keep the group together. This is particularly important on this trek as you climb up to 4600 metres and Javier took care of everyone so that no one had a problem with the altitude. We would choose Alpaca again for any trek because the organisation is just perfect. The description on the website and the briefing the evening before leave no questions unanswered and you don't have to worry about anything during the trek, for example you always get fresh drinking water and snacks provided. All in all, a perfect experience!
