What a great experience!! Hawaii Joe was our sake guide. His depth of knowledge was amazing and we learned so many things about sake that we never would have imagined, even food pairings with sake were covered. Joe’s passion for sake was evident and infectious as he got us quite excited to learn more about it. We tried a variety of sakes and the charts he gave us to help us get educated were quite useful. He really was a wealth of knowledge and sent us home with many notes and tips! My husband and I really enjoyed our time and would strongly recommend this to anyone interested in learning more about sake. Hawaii Joe was really informative and a great teacher!

The location is easy to find, the experience was great and fabulous value for money. A lot of information and a genuine passion for sake. Tried a great deal of different sakes and I left knowing so much more that I feel confident in what to buy now. The snacks are good and pair well. For anyone new to sake this is the perfect introduction. Be prepared to drink a fair amount.

100% worth it as the experience was great. Have a whole new found appreciation for sake after getting to try and learn about all the different kinds. Couldn’t have asked for a better guide in Andrea who was very knowledgeable and added to the overall experience.

If I could give more stars I would. This is a great beginners experience in a beautiful little sake bar. Andrea is knowledgeable, kind, multilingual and clearly loves what she does. I learned about sake and met new people in a relaxed environment. Andrea went over and above, giving us her best tips for local shopping, eating and more. This was worth every penny.

Very good two hours. We actually tried 11 different sake’s. The sommelier knew her stuff and there were some good sake quizzes. We would definitely recommend.

Joe was an amazing host. Energetic, funny and very knowledgeable. The restaurant was closed, except for the tasting class so it was quiet and felt very personal. We had a great time chatting with our group and learning from Joe. We tasted 6 different sakes, plus a few “bonus” glasses of more unique varieties. We sampled everything from award winning bargain sake, to high end sake, hot sake, sparkling sake and cloudy sake. Highly recommend!

It is okay to tip your host! If you feel that your host earned it, why not reward them! I sure did!

Here is mine I have been drinking sake for some time and my selections as well as preparation and food pairing were best guess or trial and error. Hawaii Joe, at Sake Bar Doron, blew me away with his extreme level of experience and knowledge. He provided detailed charts to help describe the various styles of sake and explain the ancient methods behind the master craftsmanship of Japanese sake. Of course the sake he selected flowed freely and they each had their unique flavors, aromas and smoothness to illustrate the topics he was covering at that point. It was an outstanding experience. In addition to his abundant knowledge and experience, Joe is genuinely a great person and bonded with us all in the short time we were together. If you read my review and go see Joe at Sake Bar Doron, I’m sure you will have an experience to remember and tip him graciously. Thank you Joe.

Andrea gave us an introduction to sake in Japan. She went into the making of sake and how to differentiate between alcohol added (Futsu-shu) and no alcohol added (Junmai n Ginjo) styles in sake.

This was a fantastic way to learn more about (and drinks lots of different kinds of) sake. Ríe was an energetic and kind teacher, helping us to figure out what type of sake we were drinking and what we liked more. I also got a good group to learn with :) totally recommend to those who like learning while drinking!

This sake tour was such a great experience! Sake Joe was so knowledgeable, entertaining, and taught us so much about the world of sake. From the history, to the culture, to the creation of sake Joe taught it all. Joe was so warm and welcoming. Sake/Hawaii Joe also set up the perfect snacks to pair with each sake, as well, and taught us how to develop our sake palates. We were able to try Kenkonichi, Haginotsuyu, and Shiki Yara to name a few. There’s also a mini game built it with a pretty cool prize at the end. Ask for Sake Joe! You won’t be disappointed!

So much fun! We had a smaller more intimate experience with 1 other person and it was a blast. We learned a lot about sake and tasted so many different types. We got notes afterwards and our sake sommelier knows so much about Tokyo. She gave us some recommendations of where to go afterwards too. Highly recommend people to take this class if you’re able to!
