We stayed in Hida ( well worth a two day visit) and the Sake tour and visit of the village with Dai was one of the highlights of our two week tour of Japan. Dai is delightful and fluent in English and he explained life in rural Japan as well as the Sake process and qualifications so well. We now really understand more about rural Japan (amazing) what we love drinking. We were only sad that we did not know he will also take you on a bike tour. If you can- enjoy both as this area is part of the Japanese countryside- similar to riding in Swiss alps. Just gorgeous.

Lovely tour in a not touristic place not far from Takayama. The sake brewery is family run so small and genuine with a great atmosphere. It was great to find out more about sake and taste it. Thanks to Dai for great explanations!

My wife set up this tour for me and it was a great experience. It is about a 45 minutes train trip from Takayama so it is a bit out of the way but that was part of what made it so good. Dai was a great guide and spoke excellent English. The tour was at a small sake brewery that had been run by the same family for 9 generations(if I remember correctly). One of the long time employees joined us for the tour so I was able to ask many questions and learned a lot about the sake making process. There is one step in the process that is a secret and we couldn’t go in that room; however, the employee had been there 40 years and he could go in the room either! Would highly recommend this tour for everyone because Dai talked about not only the process but the history of sake brewing so very interesting.

Dai is such a great story teller. We learned a lot not only about the history and the process of making sake but also the history of Hida.

The sake tour given by dai enables the foreign tourist to have a real closer view and deep dive into the process of how a great local sake was made on the factory . The sake factory in hida has a long history and this is a family inherited company which enable you to have the rare opportunity to taste such great flavor which can’t have in big cities like Tokyo or Osaka. Again if you wanna to pay a visit to Takayama or hida and wanna to know the Japanese culture, please don’t miss this tour.

The sake tasting experience was amazing! Got to visit a brewery in a very small town. The production seems to be a mix of traditional & modern production methods. Tasted some fantastic sake, which was a quality I've never had before.

Dai is a fun and knowledgeable tour guide, he knows his sake well. I asked him all kinds of questions since I am very curious about the sake process and he was able to answer all with clarity and panaché! Tenryo brewery has a rich history and goes about its work in a heartfelt manner. There's rooms with large barrels storing the sake and steamers and washers for the rice. They have kept up with modern processes and are one of the few to produce sake in the warm climates when it's primarily a cold weather production process. Sake tasting was fun as well and we got to try out some Doburoku and Muroka as well (unfiltered, unpasteurized, a stronger taste). Some of them were smooth as water and a pleasure to get thru

Dai is a very good tour guide. He introduced to us on the history of Hida and the production process of Sake clearly and in details. Also, the staff from 天領 is also nice and very willing to answer our question. Lastly, I really appreciated that I can try different kind of Sake at the end which further enhance our undertsanding on Sake prodcution. This tour is definitely one of our memoriable experiences in this trip. Really recommend!

This Sake tour was an easy train ride from Takayama. The tour guide was there to great us at the station and took us to a local Temple and one of Japan's earliest roads on our way to the Sake tour. Even outside of the Sake production season, the factory was still open to show us the different equipment and rice's that were used. The tour concluded with a tasting or many different Sakes from traditional to flavored. Sake cups were provided with purchase. A great selection of Sake was available and I learned a lot!

My partner & I went on this tour and loved every moment of it. Didn't expect to get to sample so many different types of sake at the end and I must admit I was quite toasted by the end of it. Picked up both the mid tier bottle & premium bottle for the trip home and once everything is sorted again I plan to return to get more.

A personalized tour of a sake brewery in a beautiful quiet town with our very knowledgeable and friendly guide Dai, was all that we hoped for in our admiration of Japanese craftsmanship in Japan. A very worthwhile tour.

The whole experience was fantastic. Dai was very informative about sake, the local region and the cultural issues in the region. The sake brewery and the local assistant gave a complete picture of the make of their style of Sake. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting this area.

This is one of the most fun, educational, and interesting tours our family has been on. We were with our adult children and had an absolutely terrific time. Das is an amazing tour guide -- knowledgeable and very passionate about teaching us about the culture and history of the Takayama region. Highly, highly recommend!

It took a full day of travel to get to Takayama, but this tour was one of the main drawcards and I had high expectations. It didn't disappoint. Dai was friendly and personable, and made us feel warmly welcomed. The tour was small and intimate. Being in a small rural town, it felt all the more special. I'm grateful I had the chance to peek into a sake brewery and to be introduced to the intricacies of sake brewing. The sake tasting at the end was generous, and I discovered wonderful new tastes in the various types of sake we tried. Luckily there's a shop on-site for you to take home your favourite sake!

After experiencing Takayama and Kyoto in previous weeks, my partner and I found ourselves wondering why we had arrived at a comparatively tiny and small town wedged between the famous Gifu and Takayama. Upon waiting for Dai to meet us at the train station for a Sake Brewery tour and tasting session, we were prepared for the worst but we found our first impressions completely unwarranted as our friendly and well-spoken Japanese tour guide (fluent in English) proceeded to turn a seemingly lifeless small village of 1000 people into one of the most memorable experiences of our entire Japan trip. Dai is a knowledgeable gentleman whose passion for both Japan and foreign visitors is infectious. Whilst we only had the pleasure of enjoying Tenryo Sake Brewery with Dai over the course of an afternoon, we are sure that he will deliver the same experience, regardless of the place and activity; you will most certainly not regret it. We look forward to returning in the region and participating in more of Umeseko tours with Dai in our next Japan trip! Iris & Donovan

This tour is a must if you are interested in sake. Our guide Dai was very friendly and knowledgeable. I have learned so much about the different grades of sake and the brewing process. Sake breweries are very closely guarded places and this tour offered a rare glimpse inside one. The brewery is not big and they do a lot of things by hand which makes it more interesting. Masa-san from the brewery who took us around was very friendly. The owner who stays on the premises also came and greet us before the tour. Highly recommended tour and throughly enjoyable. The town is about an hour outside of Takayama so if is a full afternoon outing. However take note that sake is only brewed in the colder winter seasons. So the brewery might be quiet in the summer.

This is a great tour for anyone who is interested in the history of sake, its brewing process and the different classifications of it. The brewery itself is located in an atmospheric town near to Takayama, and our group happened to be lucky as this time of the year the brewery was getting busier with the brewing process. Our guide, Dai, was friendly, easy to talk to and very well informed about the topic. Also, the staff at the brewery was very kind and hospitable. Great experience and highly recommended to add to your travel agenda when you are visiting the area!

This is a really great tour if you really want to learn about good sake. Dai was really good and the sake that we tasted were great. Everyone in the tour was generous and very welcoming. We even brought home some of the sake we tasted during the tour, that's how good it was. This is definitely a tour that we enjoyed since we have little to no knowledge about Sake.
