The Romsdalsstigen West Wall is a fun challenge for experienced via ferrata/rock climbers. If you can climb 5.9 in the gym and 5.8 outdoors and have above average physical conditioning and stamina you can do it. Took us 2 hours 45min from the end of the pavement to the gondola but we were NOT in a group and didn’t get stuck behind anyone. I suspect this could truly take the 5-6 hours the website claims in a group. Things to know: -There is no parking at the start and the start is 1.2 miles from the gondola ($350 NOK) which you most likely want to take down after the via ferrata. If possible have someone drop you off at the start of the via ferrata to skip a long walk through town. -There is a decent amount of very steep uphill climbing at the start and in between sections of the via ferrata which was the most difficult part for my husband who is a better climber than me -I could see the via ferrata being difficult if you are shorter than 5ft 4in. There were many sections where I could just barely reach the next clip or hold. If you are shorter I recommend you be a better climber than stated above and be able to use the natural rock more -This via ferrata uses a lot of traditional metal bars/rings/foot holds. There are some brief sections that rely more on natural rock -There are several (I think 4) overhangs that were challenging but have very good holds. You need a little extra upper body strength to get over them -This was fun even on a misty day and kept the wall cooler. You can always take the gondola back up another sunny day and hike the ridge to get the view !

One of the greatest experiences of my life! We had some previous climbing experience (mostly indors/climbing parks) but we had never tried a Via Ferrata before so we bought climbing trip with a guide. Our guide Axel made all the difference. I dont’t think I would have made it without him. He described the route a head and could show us how to climb the tricky parts. The trail consists of three parts, and the secound part has two small overhanging areas. I will recomend using a camelback water system for easy water access and using the restroom before start (you can NOT take the harness of during the trip.)

This was such an incredible experience! Epic views in every direction until we finished in the clouds at the top! The route was quite wet & muddy in places after a heavy rain the day before. This made everything more slippery so I was especially thankful we had a guide for support. Well worth it - a true bucket list item!

A via Ferrata with great views. Even if it was wet we were able to complete it safely as it is well planned out and you barely use the rock which was wet and slippery. There are 3 sections of vertical walls beautiful and very exposed. Gloves to be used if you do not want blisters especially on a wet day! We thought it would be crowed but we were the only ones on the wall. I definitely recommend the west wall for those who enjoy climbing regularly and have via Ferrata experience :)

This was the absolute highlight of our trip to Norway. I couldn't stop smiling the whole day. Our guide Kristen was very knowledgeable, safe, and helpful. They kept the group size very small which I think is necessary for this activity. We only had 4 people in our group plus our guide. We ended up choosing the West Wall and are very glad that we did. The views were absolutely amazing and the climbing was a blast. You do need to be very physically fit because it is physically exhausting. There is a lot of steep hiking and then the climbing walls are vertical. However you don't need any climbing experience to do well on the West Wall (although it would help). Even though it is a vertical wall they have added hand and foot holds exactly where you would want/need them. The whole route is well put together. The video on the website gives a really good idea of what you will experience. With the walk down at the end, the whole trip took about 6 hours. You can pay to take the gondola down at the end instead if hiking which will save about 45 min to an hour. If you have endurance, a sense of adventure, and a love of heights then this is the adventure for you.

Great experience! The guide was knowledgeable and helpful. He made us feel safe by checking in on everyone and sometimes guiding in the front while other times going in the middle to check on everyone. There were a couple overhanging parts and definitely some longer reaches if you are less than 5'4" (163 cm) that made it feel a little less safe for those who were shorter but easier those who are taller. If you can avoid it, do not pick a rainy day to do the climb. The metal holds and some of the holds on the actual rock are slippery when wet. We slipped of both the rock and metal when it rained during our climb, made it a little scarier than it would have been on a dry day, plus you couldn't see anything from the top with the rain clouds.

A fantastic climb in beautiful weather. The route was quite hard and would suggest being in good shape and no fear of hights. The guide was super and helped us all through the difficult parts - Thank you Mats!

Tougher than we expected - but a wonderful guide made it possible. Magic view! A bit difficult if shorter than 175 cm.

Suitable for most people with some climbing experience. I think the route was well made, and I had great fun! Two places with overhang, but quite easy if you have done some climbing before. We had one person with us that had more or less none climbing experience and he managed quite well, but quite exhausted when we reached the finish. Not much fear of heights helped a lot. For me the heaviest part was the walk down. I’m not much of a steep hill walker, and with a bit too tight climbing shoes it became a bit painful the last 100hm The weather couldn’t have been better, and the view was fantastic! Even though we were not higher than 710masl. If you like via ferrata, I highly recommend this route. I will definitely return in a few years:)

Amazing and exhilarating climb! We were three friends who climbed the west wall in August. Neither of us had any climbing experience but we have experience hiking and being active outdoors. Our guide did an excellent job with making us feel safe and helping us along the way. Very attentive of every person in the group (of four people in total) even though we are climbing with at least 5 ish meters between each one. Would definitely recommend, and definitely with a guide if you're not a pro!

This climbing exersize really pushed my limits. I'm normally a little bit scared of hights, so to climb this wall was a mental and physical challenge. But we made it.
