Rome: Capuchin Crypt & Museum Tour with Choral Concert

Tour Rome's underground burial chambers and crypts to discover a history that predates Christianity, and post-dates the Renaissance.

This 1-hour tour takes you back to a time when Christianity was considered a cult and its members were executed as heretics and buried as martyrs. You will see hundreds of burial chambers, from modest single sites to extravagant family tombs, in the long corridors of the underground city.

First, visit the Capuchin Crypt and Museum for an encounter with Caravaggio’s magnificent “St. Francis in Meditation” canvas, along with masterpieces by Domenichino and Reni. See relics from the life of St. Francis and some of his followers. The Crypt is decorated with the bones of 4,000 Capuchin monks, including a real skull and crossbones and chandeliers made of human vertebrae.

Then, attend a choral concert by the renowned Schola Romana Ensemble inside the Basilica of Santa Maria Immacolata. The program is rare and valuable, and alternates the archaic mysticism of Gregorian Chants - the most ancient form of Occidental music - with the best polyphony compositions by the Roman School, including masterworks by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina.

Both the tour and the concert were amazing! The crypt was a bit cramped for the number of people in the tour but manageable. The only thing that can be improved in my opinion is the audio machine. There was a lot of static noise, but it was only a minor nuisance.
sehr interessant, informativ
Must see
The tour comprised of three parts: the Cappucin Museum, the Cappucin Crypts and the concert. Each part alone would be worth to see, which makes the bundle unbeatable. The guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining at the same time. The singers were great. The concert of baroque vocal music in beautiful settings of the baroque church was a really amazing experience.
Mieleenpainuva kokemus Rooman illassa
The choral concert was amazing, beautiful singers and a fabulous setting. The museum.
Good alternative to going down into catacombs
This crypt is worth seeing. It is located in town as opposed to catacombs that take you out of the city and you need at least 3 hours to see on bus tour. Guide was great, especially since we were late because our vouchers had an incorrect start time. He did not give us any trouble at all. More time in the crypt would be appreciated.. there is so much to see! Concert was very good. The vocalists were trained professionals and met with our group after. Added bonus, indoors in air conditioning!
Great choral choir but crowded in crypt
The choral choir was astounding and definitely worth seeing. But the crypt was disappointing due to other tours stopping in the crypt and blocking the chapels. It would be good if all tours gave an explanation outside of the crypt to allow people to walk through. Try to arrive early as the event started earlier than advertised on the ticket.
Bones for chandeliers!!
Sadly left a little disappointed. The museum tour was rushed, the group I was in was too large, during the crypt part of the tour being at the back meant you couldn't see the crypt being described until the group moved onto the next crypt. The choral concert was good but not sung by monks as hoped. Overall the museum tour is worth a visit but at your own pace to take it in.
