We started rafting on the Hvítá River almost 25 years ago and since those early days it’s been the most popular adventure activity in Iceland: fun, easily accessible even for beginners and an active way to experience Iceland as you raft down one of its great rivers.
The Hvítá (pronounced Kveetau) river is a deep jade coloured, glacial river that is in the Geysir region of Iceland and a little more than an hour drive from Reykjavík. The river has a perfectly balanced mix of gentle canyons and more adrenaline pumping waves and rapids and our 7 kilometre journey takes in great views of the surrounding cliffs, nature and wildlife.
From a difficulty perspective we would give this trip a 2 out of 5 – which means you don’t have to have any experience of having river rafted before. Our guides make sure you are all kitted up and provided with the safety know how to make sure you’re comfortable before we get in the boats.
On our journey we pass through the magnificent Brúarhlöð canyon and in that stunning setting we give you the added option of being able to tell your friends that you went to Iceland and jumped from a cliff into a glacial river. Yes, we give you that opportunity. All you need to do is jump. And who can resist this little extra bit of adventure when you’re in Iceland?
No one should leave Iceland without experiencing the power that its rivers contain and a fun day out on the Hvíta river is sure to leave you with a smile on your face and memories of a great time. Following your water adventure, there is the additional treat of relaxing in our sauna or hot-tubs.
