I booked this trip not really knowing what to expect and the adventure was so delightful, I may book again upon my next visit in March because there is so much to see and learn! Miguel is a dynamic and passionate host who will skillfully weave fascinating Mexican history into the journey as you ascend into the mountains away from the hustle and bustle of San Luis Potosi. Miguel is a great conversationalist and time will fly by! It was lovely meeting this distilling family and humbling to observe their love and dedication in creating their mezcal. Miguel’s mezcal tasting certainly instilled a new appreciation for really(!) tasting mezcal (and other spirits) with unique ways to open one’s senses with which I was unfamiliar. We continued our journey to visit another family (including the darling 95-year-young matriarch) where we trekked along side a healer who was tending to his agave plants in the mountains. I loved being able to capture and enjoy the honey water from an agave plant he had recently scraped. It was a fun hike with many opportunities to take photos of giant blooming cacti and towering agave plants. Miguel was thoughtful and knowledgeable in pointing out different varieties of cacti and where to look for the best views. He was quite thoughtful to offer a rest in the shade as he could hear me huffing and puffing back up the trail to our car – 6100ft elevation, whew, haha! 😉 I’m thrilled I had an opportunity to experience such a beautiful adventure with truly wonderful hosts. It’s challenging to capture the energy and the spirit of the day and communicate such in words. It’s a trip worth taking. NOTE: I was a solo, female traveler on this excursion, in the mountains, in a foreign country, with no cell reception for hours. I always felt perfectly safe and would not hesitate to book again.

This was a genuine adventure in the desert of San Luis Potosí. We met local Mezcal Maestros, hiked into the desert to harvest agave sap, sipped on local drinks. Miguel really enhanced the experience by sharing his vast knowledge of the desert cactus, local history, myths and folklore along the way. If you want a true cultural experience, this is it!

Miguel was such a great guide. As a local y is very well informed on the city/state’s history as well as the contributions it has from the entire country. He will make this such a pleasant experience as he will show you the authentic culture of beautiful Mexico. He makes everyone feel special. He’s got a great personality and will gladly answer questions to the best of his ability. 10/10 would recommend

This is the perfect tour for travelers who want to learn about the local culture of San Luis Potosí. It’s not just about Mezcal and Pulque, though you definitely get plenty of that. This tour is also about the local people, how they live, how traditions are preserved, and putting yourself in some else’s shoes so you can better appreciate their hard work. Miguel is a fantastic tour guide that focuses on helping the rural areas of San Luis Potosí where the Mezcal and Pulque are actually made. But the best part of the tour is actually talking to the locals (Don Nabor, Don David, and Doña Eufemia). These people have honed their craft through countless years of tradition and experience and when you buy from them you know you are helping the local economy. So if you are a traveler who wants culture, tradition, and meeting the local people along with your Mezcal and Pulque, this is the tour for you. Miguel will make sure you have a unique and wonderful experience!

This was a truly amazing tour -- in fact one of my best travel experiences ever -- for two reasons in particular: 1) Miguel! He's the tour guide, and not only is he passionate about ancestral mezcal and pulque, but he's also very connected to the area. I ended the tour feeling like I learned so much more about Mexico and SLP's place in it. 2) The people who make the mezcal and harvest the pulque. I don't know how cool I'd be with a bunch of tourists bugging me while I'm trying to work, but all of the people we met were warm and friendly and patient with dumb questions(!). This tour may sound on the surface like it's for a very specific group of mezcal/pulque nerds, but it's not. I think this tour offers a lot to anyone who are looking for something a little more off the beaten tourist path.

This was such a fun and informative tour! It was super neat to see the way they make the Mezcal and Pulque beer the original way. My guide Miguel showed me the best way to drink Mezcal and explained the science behind why. The whole experience was phenomenal! I'm also very grateful that Miguel was still willing to give the tour even though I was a solo traveler and no one else booked the same day.

Miguel is a great guide with excellent local knowledge and superb English. The learning experience of the Mezcal tour and the scenery were fabulous.

Hiking to the Maguey and using a dried gourd to collect agua de miel and chatting with the father and son who make ancestral mezcal after seeing each stage of the process. My guide Miguel was knowledgeable and made the trip an absolute highlight of my visit to SLP. I cannot recommend him or the experience enough. A must do activity

This experience was amazing! Our tour guide, Miguel, was very knowledgeable about mezcal, history, and has a good sense of humor. The communities we visited were very friendly and welcoming. My husband and I enjoyed the mezcal tasting and learning how to distinguish the characteristics of mezcal. Definitely recommend!

Miguel was extremely knowledgable about the culture and agricultural traditions of the harvesting and artisanal and industrial production of Mezcal from the agave plant to all facets of the distillery process. I learned so much and it was truly an awesome experience. All COVID19 safety precautions were met and we all wore masks throughout the tour. Miguel took excellent care of us today, everyone along the way in the various communities were friendly and we truly appreciated the experience.

Nous avons adoré notre visite avec Miguel. :) La route du mezcal fut une joyeuse escapade hors des sentiers battus qui nous a permis d'en apprendre sur les techniques ancestrales par la rencontre de vrais maîtres de cet art. Le tout était bien organisé, et les récits du guide éducatifs. Il était facile à comprendre et discuter avec lui malgré mon niveau d'espagnol chambranlant. Nous avons ensuite continués avec le déjeuner au marché le lendemain, encore une fois en privé, et avons eu beaucoup de plaisir là aussi! :)

Excelente tour, Miguel es un verdadero experto en turismo, con gran conocimiento de la historia de San Luis Potosí y de la producción del mezcal con técnicas ancestrales. El recorrido es una gran experiencia con el toque personal de Miguel que va aportando datos interesantes de la biodiversidad del desierto 🌵 de Guachichil. He tenido una gran experiencia al conocer a Maestros Mezcaleros que confían en el trabajo de Miguel. Muy recomendable también la experiencia de conocer a Eufemia y David productores del mejor pulque ancestral de la región.

Wir waren zu zweit und haben diesen tour nur auf Basis der positiven Bewertungen gebucht. Wir waren sehr zufrieden von der ersten Minute und vom Wissen, Offenheit und Professionalität überzeugt. Miguel macht sein Job einfach gerne und das sieht ihm an. Wir hatten keinen Gefühl einmalige Touristen zu sein und ich werde beim Miguel einen anderen Tour buchen oder mich einfach mit ihm treffen wenn ich wieder in San Luis Potosí bin. Miguel unterstützt mit seinen Projekten den lokalen Betreiber. Außerdem den mezcal den wir probiert haben haben gibt es nicht im Laden zu kaufen und geschmacklich ist es sowieso Nonsens. Möglichst gibt es vergleichbare Produkte, wir haben es nicht mehr gefunden, obwohl wir viel unterschiedliche industrielle Marken probierten. Wir waren auch bei David und seiner Mutter Eufemia (91), einer sehr gastfreundlicher Familie und haben gemeinsam mit David das Honigwasser aus der Agave gesammelt und Pulque (Der Energy Drink der Azteken) getrunken. Es war eine einmalige Gelegenheit das tägliche Leben der Stadtperepherie kennenzulernen und hausgemachtes Essen und Getränke zu probieren. Wirklich wir hatten einen tollen Tag und ich kann Miguel und seine Touren wärmstes weiterempfehlen!
