Sharky was our instructor for the morning and he was incredibly insightful and made our lesson incredibly fun.

My husband and I booked a private lesson with Sharky and we had the best time!! We initially had a bit of a scheduling snafu, and Tide worked with us to get us out on the ocean. The lesson was so much fun and my husband and I both were able to stand and surf Maui by the end! Highly recommend Rivers to The Sea!!

Amazing!! Booked a private lesson for our two kids. They both absolutely LOVED it! Highly recommend. Their surf instructor, Eric Totah, was THE BEST. Knowledgeable, professional, patient, and clearly skilled at what he does because both kids were up and surfing in NO TIME!! Plus it was so reasonable ($$$).

Sharks was a great instructor and took the time to show the girls how to be successful and ride waves. He took the time to show them how not to rush to stand which allowed them to get a feel for the board and the balance which ultimately led to them riding much longer and more successfully. Our guide was patient and knowledgeable. My wife and I are senior citizens and have never surfed before. But yet we each caught a wave and rode it to the shore. The experience was very tiring, but well worth the time and energy. Definitely a highlight of our Maui vacation!

Me and my fiancé had the best time learning to surf from Eric who has been surfing his entire life. Great instructor! I have never been on any kind of board before but he had me up on the board my 2nd try. Something I never thought I’d be able to do. Thanks Eric!

This was our first time surfing in Maui and we had a blast learning with Izzy, she’s a great instructor. She was very friendly, chill, nice and she didn’t let us quit until we were able to get a wave.

Eric was so patient and kind with my 8 year old son. It was a great experience for both of us. We were late because of a traffic accident and Eric was still generous with his time. We would do it again in a heartbeat. Thank you!

My two teens, ages 17 and 13, had never been surfing, but Kody was an amazing instructor and had them both up on boards within an hour! He was so patient and kind, and just really good with them. I can't say enough good things. Communication ahead of time was great! We changed locations because conditions were better and it was super-easy to find him. I highly recommend Rivers By The Sea, and particularly Kody--he's the BEST!

Kody was fantastic! Walked us through the discipline of surfing and techniques. What a blast I had with my son/daughter to experience together. He even pushed us towards the end to catch another good wave. Hang ten and major Maholo to Kody! You rock!!!!

This was an amazing experience and it far exceeded our expectations. The surf lesson could have been a bust if not for the great customer care that the tour operators showed to us. The weather was not good and they advised that we could cancel with a full refund or reschedule to another time. Our two girls - both 16 years old - decided to give it a try even though it was pretty windy conditions. They had a fabulous instructor, Izzy, who treated them with patience and warm kindness. The first half hour of the lesson was difficult because it was really windy and neither of the girls had ever been on a surfboard. Izzy continued to work with them helping out when the wind made things tough. Pretty soon the wind started to die down a little and Izzy had both girls riding waves all the way into the shore. The girls loved it. It's hard to imagine a tour of any kind that would top this experience. So grateful for Izzy and the Private Surf Lesson for Two.

My wife and I had an awesome surf lesson with Eric! He was very friendly, knowledgeable, patient, and helpful. I was struggling to stand up on my board and he kept making adjustments to my positioning until I was able to successfully ride a wave into shore. The owner, Tide, was also excellent at helping us resolve a separate custom service issue. Mahalo!

We had our two boys ages 13 & 8 take semi private surf lessons with Eric. It was their first time doing surf lessons. Eric was very patient and kind. The boys felt safe the entire time. The area has beautiful views. The photographer Mark took amazing photos that we would have never captured on our own and were very reasonably priced. It was a very memorable time. Thank you to Eric!

Very friendly instructor. The kids had a great time. Location could be a little better (parking is limited), but no fault of the company.

Super awesome instructor and company. We had a kid with altitude sickness from a hike we did the day before, and Tide was kind enough to help us arrange it so we can come back later with the cousins in a few days. The other person in our party still went and she was able to catch her very first wave! We are coming back soon. Highly recommended!

There was a little fear in trying this. My husband talked me into it and I would do it again. It was fun. Our instructor Kody was patient and encouraging. It felt very satisfying when I actually was able to stand when riding a wave. We were extremely happy with the experience.

Had a blast in our first ever surf lesson, will be back to do it again! Our instructor for the lesson was Izzy; she was awesome. Great teacher and very patient with our sub par surf skills. I’m sure she would be equally awesome with more advanced surfers but would 110% recommend Izzy and Rivers to the Sea if you are also a beginner! Thank you!

We did a private lesson with Kody and had such a great time! He was very communicative in the days leading up to our lesson, to align on location (we surfed in a different spot to take advantage of good conditions) and make sure we knew what to expect. The morning of the lesson, he dropped a pin so we could find him more easily, and we were able to start our lesson right away. Kody's instruction was clear and actionable, and my husband and I felt comfortable getting in the water almost right away. He gave us plenty of pointers for getting over and through the wave sets, and let us know what to expect/how we could conserve energy. I appreciated that we were able to rest when we needed and then jump right back in. There were even a few other surfers around who were all very nice and helpful—such a great community! Under Kody's instruction and thoughtful corrections after each run, we were both able to stand up on our boards! Definitely would recommend this experience to anyone, and would absolutely do it again ourselves!

Kody the instructor was amazing, he was so patient with our kids and got both of them up surfing. Our kids had so much fun and were so proud of themselves for catching a wave. Kody’s communication was great, he texted the morning of the lesson and told us we were changing meeting places so our kids could catch bigger and better waves. We could not be happier.

Izzy was a great teacher. Taught a 47 year old, 15 year old and 11 year old all how to surf with no problems and lots of fun.
