During my visit to Honolulu, my friend suggested we take a helicopter tour. I’ve been on helicopters before (military & civilian) but never in Hawaii so I figured it would be fun. I checked online and found several places, Mauna Loa Helicopters had a great rating on TripAdvisor so I chose them. I booked the tour $415.08 per person for April 14, 2024 @ 3:45. It was a nice day, so I was excited about getting some great pictures, a couple of hours before the flight a woman (Milea – spelling could be wrong) from the office called to say they needed to cancel because of forecasted inclement weather. I thought that was strange since the weather was beautiful. I rescheduled for Tuesday, April 16, 2024 @ 3:45. I called two hours before the flight because it had been windy and overcast all day but Milea said there was no plan to cancel the flight. My friend and I took an Uber and arrived 30 minutes before the flight as required. We watched a safety video and Milea took us to the helicopter in a golf cart. She and the pilot put the doors back on the helicopter as we were doing a doors on tour. Shortly after taking off the pilot pointed out that a small private passenger plane crashed on Oahu earlier that day, then she proceeded to take pictures of the wreckage with her iPhone. This was a bit disconcerting, I don’t want my Uber driver texting so I certainly didn’t like my helicopter pilot taking pictures while flying. The pilot mentioned several points of interest during the flight but as I mentioned earlier it was overcast so I didn’t get a good look at a lot of the locations. The helicopter which was much older than the aircraft in the pictures on their website started to shake during the flight and sounded like it was going to stall. It started to rain (drizzling not heavy rain at all) which I could see on the windshield and feel on my hands in the helicopter. Our flight lasted 48 minutes as I started a timer when we took off. As soon as we returned to the office Melia rushed us out and as we waited in the parking lot for our Uber we saw her drive away without so much as an Aloha or Mahalo. I would not use this company again and I told 4 friends who are going to Hawaii in the next couple of months to avoid this business. They had great reviews which is why I chose them but things have obviously changed because we didn’t have a good experience. PROS: Departed on time CONS: Tour did not last 60 minutes as advertised Helicopter was not what we expected Pilot was not professional

Absolutely a wonderful trip! Highly recommended! Our pilot was very skilled and knowledgeable and she quickly put us at ease.

The pilot recommended the day before to go earlier because we could get better pictures. Lucky we did we were able to see everything on the tour. Dejan did a great job narrating, and telling us about the history of areas. I highly recommend flying with Dejan.

This was an amazing Trip! Our pilot Dejon was a great pilot and a well versed tour guide. The company did a great job preparing you for your adventure. Doors Off is a must and felt safe the whole time. Doing it again for sure!

Was a great adventure. Had some trepidation when booking due to this being a "doors off" flight. No issues with wind or cold. Even went through a couple of brief showers, but water did not come in the helicopter. Beautiful views. Wonderful ride.

Mauna Loa helicopter tours did not disappoint. They run Robinson R-44 helicopters which seat 4 including the pilot. They’re smaller aircraft which guarantees you get a window/ door seat. Their location is easy to get to at the airport but the parking lot can be tight. When you book, they’ll send you a parking space number. Make sure to stick to that. We chose our tour to have the doors on which made for a quieter, less windy ride. However, I could see the photos would have been a little better with the doors off to get rid of the glare at times. Overall, this is a good outfit with great staff.

Easy booking and experience. Staff was friendly and pilot was great as well as very knowledgeable on sights. Flight was one of if not the highlight of the trip.

Being able to revisit the locations that we explored on the ground days before was an emazing recap of our Hawaiian vacation!! Staff and equipment was amazing and would highly recommend this to anyone and can't wait to do it again with them on our next visit!! Doors off is the only way to go!!!

I could not recommend Mauna Loa Helicopter Tours enough to visitors to Oahu. The experience was amazing and it will be one of the best things you will do! My partner and I took the doors-off flight and had Scott as our pilot; he was extremely knowledgeable, interpersonal and made us feel safe at all times. The perspective you get of many of Oahu’s major attractions and landmarks is epic! I would definitely take this tour again.

It was wonderful to have a private tour with my family. From the beginning of booking, paperwork in the office, customer service, communication, safety information and procedures to the fantastic ride. Everything was excellent and professional. WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!!

Phenomenal tour! My family of two tween girls and I had a doors on adventure with the very talented Scott piloting us through a spectacular guided hour long tour of the entire island of O’ahu. We were in expert hands! Glad to have doors on flying through some condensation and for our slightly anxious flyers but rest assured the views were incredible. Can’t rave enough, book it. We have a lifelong memory we’ll treasure.

Fantastic and very enjoyable tour, the views were amazing, and Travis, our pilot, was an excellent tour guide. Only critique is administrative, I'd mention that you must park in one of the two MLH marked parking spots, labeled 4 and 17 I believe.

Our pilot was wonderful and did a fabulous job with narrating throughout (as we asked). We saw all the main items on my bucket list and even circled Pearl Harbor twice. Adam in the office was equally as personable and knowledgeable. Could not have asked for a better experience!!

Absolute highlight of my trip to Oahu this time. We did 3 full days in Oahu that we packed full of activities that covered the whole island. The last day we did a 1 hour helicopter ride with Mauna Loa Tours. We chose them because of their good ratings but also because we were guaranteed a private tour. We got just that! After we booked, We received extremely specific and helpful information about what time to be there, where to park etc. The location was easy to find. The check in was quick and we watched a short but very informative safety video. We were weighed (the max is 300 pounds per person with your items on you). We were asked if we wanted doors on or off the helicopter (no question!! Doors OFF). We were given awesome phone holders to use. The phone holder clamps on your phone and a band goes around your wrist. It is very secure and makes taking photos so easy! They provide it free of charge. We ar long sleeves and pants but it isn't as cold as I expected. I was very comfortable and I get cold very easily. There isn't a bad seat but the left side if a much better view of the island, so if you have someone in your group who is having a special day (it was my birthday), they should be seated in one of the two seats on the left. It is a 3 passenger max for the helicopter I was in. The two guys (Pilot and check in guy) were so nice and friendly. They took photos of us in front of the helicopter before the trip. We could take selfies in the copter and as many photos while in flight. They had great headsets that made it easy to ask questions and the pilot played quiet but really fun music in the background. The pilot took us over the whole island around the coast and up the middle just like the flight path showed. He pointed out areas of interest throughout the trip and it was especially fun for us because we had spent the last few days driving the whole island and coast and to see it all from the air was so cool! We didn't plan it that way, but I suggest you do! Make the helicopter ride at the end of your trip to Hawaii and it's fun to see everywhere you've been. The whole thing was amazing. Absolutely no regrets. I wouldn't change a single thing! I thought the price was very appropriate for what we got, even a good deal! I've been talking about this to everyone who will listen. Do a Mauna Loa helicopter tour when on ANY of the Hawaiian islands. They have locations on several islands. I will 100% do another helicopter tour when we visit another island. Worth EVERY PENNY!

What a ride! Travis was our pilot and he made the trip not only safe but informative. He showed us parts the island we could only see with a bird eye view and answered questioned that grew from our own curiosity. 10/10 would fly again.

We absolutely loved the ride around the island. We saw things that we couldn't get to on land so that was awesome. We went all around Oahu and saw everything from Pearl Harbor to Diamond Head and everything in between. Our pilot, Travis, was very good at pointing out what we were going over, and answered all of our questions. I highly recommend going doors off so you can see everything. I will definitely do it again if given the opportunity!

This tour was most definitely one of the best things we have ever experienced. The doors off experience is highly recommended to see Hawaii in all its beautiful glory!
