Ocean was a terrific guide; we ate and ate and ate some more and it was fabulous - ending with a Hot Pot dinner. I can wholeheartedly recommend this tour.

The food was incredible as Ocean made sure we had a great time. She took us around the Wenshu temple in addition to the food tour.

Ocean took us on a wonderful tour around Chengdu. All the stops were delicious and well thought out. She also was helpful to explain all the complexities of the foods as well as general questions about Chengdu and China. Would highly recommend this tour.

Lance, our guide, was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and, focussed on our enjoyment. The tour was relaxed; the food selections were very good; the vendors selected were really good … and … we were absolutely full by the end of the tour. Says it all really … Recommended!

Really glad that such a tour is provided in Chengdu. We had a great time during the tour. Lance, our tour guide brought us to places where there are really delicious food provided. I would not have found those places by my own and maybe would not have dared trying to find out that it was really tasty. The hot pot finally was at a very charming hot pot restaurant. Without a rush we had time to celebrate the day and had a good time. Thank you Lance!

We had a fantastic back alley tour with Lance today. On top of being very knowledgeable, Lance was very accommodating and caring for all parties in our small group. I will definitely recommend it if you need any way to spend half a day and discover Chengdu out of the beaten path. We always join food tour all over the world and this one was fantastic.

We had a blast on this tour with our guide Lance. He spoke excellent English and taught us a bunch about modern Chinese culture in Chengdu. AND THE FOOD! It was incredible. We tried so many things we would never have. We tend to stay away from street food during our travels but this opened us up to so many options. Eating fresh spring rolls in the middle of an active market and splitting open a rabbit head for the brain are experiences I'll never forget. Our personal favorites were the guo kui (meat pastry/pita) and the sweet water noodles. We went on the food tour at the beginning of our trip to Chengdu and it made us much more confident ordering hotpot and other food throughout the trip. We also got much very comfortable with the spiciness we should be ordering (lots of numbing spice). We highly recommend this!

Lance our guide was really friendly and warm. This was just a small tour of four of us, with Lance being very easy to talk to and informative about the food and China life. His English was really good too. We ate so much, I couldn't possibly list them all. This included noodles, rabbit head, stuffed pancakes, spring rolls and some sweet things, concluding with a traditional hot pot dinner. We also visited a tearoom and a market. Of course if there's something you're not comfortable eating, it isn't a problem - but it is a Sichaun food tour after all! Included in the price were refreshments like water, tissues and a bus to one of the stops. Everything else was walking. A few tips: bring some wet wipes and hand sanitizer, as some of the foods, as delicious as they are, can be a bit greasy and of course spicy (and combined with the humid weather, you'll feel like you'll need a hot shower at the end). Also, a small tip for foreigners eating Chengdu's famous spicy Sichaun food... I got a little ill two days after the tour. Nothing serious, but I think it was just travellers flu that passed after a day. Can't say it had anything to do with the hygiene of where we stopped. Tip: Don't get cocky and know your limits when it comes to the spice and how much of it you will consume when in Chengdu, as food here is likely more potent than Sichaun food elsewhere in the world. Also, bring Imodium or equivalent with you for your trip - it is available in pharmacies but i found some to be a bit tricky to deal with, even when I had the Chinese translation for it written down. Perhaps don't plan the food tour the day before a big tour in case you are suffering the next day.

Growing up in a Chinese household and eating a lot of Sichuan food, I was really curious how this food tour would be. Lance was an awesome tour guide and he showed us all the best eats in Chengdu. The food tour felt really authentic as we walked through various alleys and ate with the locals. Overall, I would recommend this tour!

We spent a delicious afternoon with Lance from Chilli Food Tours. We tried many different foods as well as visiting a local market, walking thru parks and quiet back streets and taking time out in an authentic tea house. The hot pot dinner was great to finish on with a few cold beers. Lance is a delight. Very friendly, well organised & knowledgeable. We thoroughly recommend this tour - great value & full of delicious tastes. Well done Lance thank you for such a great informative afternoon.

Our group had a sensational time on the Chilli Cool Back Alley foodie tour. Everything, from the food, to the teahouse, to the group dining experience was a perfect introduction to Chengdu foods and culture. Our tour guide, Lance, in particular was excellent. He was super funny and knowledgeable (he noted he's from a "small town" near Chengdu, only 3 million people... haha), and helped us try lots of new things, including eating rabbit's head. Much to their surprise, most of our group went from hesitant to completely into the experience. Thanks for such a great time, Lance!

I apologise for taking over 2 months to write this review. This tour was booked by my husband, and I went along for the ride. Was not expecting much but really enjoyed it. Lance is a wonderful chap, who is friendly and kind. We shared out tour with another traveller, and we all had a great time. As I prefer sweet to savory food Lance ensured my needs were dealt with as well. Really liked the tea house, the man who runs this has the strongest hand shake ever! Lance was also very patient in answering my questions about day to day life. Would recommend this tour to all visiting Chendu, you will not regret it.

Best food tour I ever had. My guide (Lance), speaks perfectly English, and as a local he could tell a lot about the local cuisine. He is kind and enthusiastic. I tried a lot of things I would never have found on my own. After the tour I enjoyed the cuisine more than I would have when I would not have taken this tour. Excellent experience!

Lance was a kind and funny guide who accommodated my schedule. As a solo traveler who speaks no Mandarin, it was great to have Lance translating and picking food highlights for me. Got a taste of Chengdu and its culture! Would recommend to anyone.

My husband and I had joined 5 other Viator food tours around the world and this one in Chengdu was among the top. Lance was our guide and he was just wonderful. We really like his food choices of small stand hidden in the back alley or family own little stores that only local people know how to find. The relaxing time in the local tea house was just wonderful and exactly what we needed in a hot afternoon. We really liked the tea at the tea house that Lance helped us bought some back from the local market as souvenir. Also got some roasted sunflower seeds that was very delicious... should had bought more. We were so full after the food tour that we had to skip dinner that night. Thank you Lance for the great time.

Words can’t even begin to describe how amazing this tour was. We saw soooooo much. Many of these treats we never would have discovered had it not been for Hazel. She was the best guide we’ve ever had. Helpful, knowledgeable, easy going and ultimately accommodating. Would recommend this tour to anyone in a heartbeat!

Our food tour with a Lance was a great experience. He did a wonderful job of putting together a series of experiences for us, including tasting delicious Sichuan specialities, walking the streets of Chengdu, sipping tea in a local tea house, and visiting the market. Lance is very personable, and he spoke English very well. My husband and son both agree that this was our favorite day in China during our visit.

We did the foodies tour in Chengdu with Lance. I did not expect it to be such an amazing experience! He did not only take us to great places and explained the food in a fascinating way, but also exposed us to Chinese culture and was happy to answer many of the questions we had, including those that was unrelated to food. I do not believe that I will have many opportunities to converse in such an open, honest, and fluent way with a Chinese I do not know. Lance is charming, nice, funny (and a great karaoki singer) and we had the pleasure of hanging out with him for 6 (!!) hours. And the food... We ate a lot of new, tasty, interesting and special dishes. But really- a lot. there is no chance we would have reached them otherwise. Hotpot is just not the complete picture of what Chengdu have to offer in that sense. The street food is **amazing** I would highly recommend everyone to do it, even if you are not usually like to do tourist tours. It is a real culinary adventure and fun. Thank you Lance, our new friend.
