We did a private jeep tour in the Duoro Valley yesterday. Our guide was Miguel, and he was outstanding. He had just the right balance of giving us lots of interesting information without overdoing the "history lessons" and was a lot of fun to be with. It was like doing a trip with a friend with a great sense of humor who knows the area really well. The trip included plenty of stops to take pictures and Miguel was very flexible with the schedule and the itinerary. We had a wonderful picnic lunch in the middle. It was all very professionally organized and we had a sensational day. If you have one day to see the stunning Duoro Valley (and you shouldn't miss this incredible area) the it will definitely be a highlight of your trip. I highly recommend this private tour.

Pedro( our guide) was fantastic. The moment he met us at the hotel we knew we were in great hands. It was one of the best tours we’ve done. Visiting the Douro Valley on this tour is a must. Getting to see the vineyards from many perspectives and learn about the wines and port in the region was such a treat. The picnic that we had was one of the best meals we’ve eaten and prepared by a local woman owned business. We loved hanging out with Pedro for the day. I cannot say enough great things about this tour and Pedro.

Miriam and Rui were both incredible guides, and I would recommend this tour to anyone and everyone. The views were absolutely beautiful, and I felt so safe the entire time. Both guides had the best attitude and were so knowledgeable about the region’s history.

Rather than join the masses for a generic trip to Duoro, we opted for the 4x4 trip. Miguel was an excellent host and driver. He took us on a great ride, with stops for the view and pics. We used the 4x4 going up of the hills, and we were on the edge of steep drops at points in the narrow road. An amazing picnic lunch with a beautiful view. Finally, a personal port and wine tasting at Quinta Seara d'Ordens. It was great talking with Miguel throughout the trip. Very memorable!!

Miriam was absolutely marvelous! Our trip was filled with points of interest, an abundance of beauty and lots of laughter! Wonderful lunch, charming and lovely winery visit and such a fun day!! I highly recommend her and Detours!

My cousin and I had the most amazing experience with Miriam during our 4x4 wine tour. Miriam went out of her way to accommodate us with the best customer service. We had a magical experience that we will remember for years to come! Views are breathtaking, lunch was fantastic, and the winery was outstanding. This tour was amazing! We had the privilege of having Miriam as our tour guide and she made the trip even more memorable. She was so kind showing us all the amazing things the local culture has to offer. The views during the tour were absolutely breathtaking! The wine tasting was so much fun and absolutely delicious. Miriam took on a wonderful adventure to the vineyards in the valley. She loves what she does, is very easy going and knowledgeable about the area and the vineyards. Driving skills really showed while we were off road four wheeling. Would take another tour with her should I return. We had a delicious locally made picnic which we ate in a beautiful spot. The scenery on this trip was breathtaking.

Detours runs small tours for adventurous people who don’t enjoy mass tourism. I selected the 4 wd tour of Douro Valley. I was collected punctually from my hotel and we travelled in a classic short wheel base Land Rover Defender. I had 4 guides all to myself as 3 were training. Along the way there was lots of information a fun chat as they all spoke excellent English. We picked up our picnic and wine and after a coffee we head along minor roads to follow the Douro River through its valley. The river is wide and has majestic bends. The steep banks are covered with intricate terraces of vines. Some of the vines are over 60 years old. The scenery was awe inspiring. Soon we got right off road on farming by ways winding up and up. The odd farmer greeted as as we ascended. There was some mist and low cloud to make it look magic. Finally we peaked on a tall outcrop of rock with a 360 view. Here the picnic was set out in a fragrant pine plantation. We feasted on local produce such as cheeses, breads, meats, olives, salads while enjoying a delicious local white wine. All of the time the team was knowledgeable , courteous and fun. Later to we descended to an ancient family run vineyard and winery in a gorgeous location. Typhoon the dog greeted us and we sampled white, green and red wines as well as some spectacular ports. I could not resist buying a bottle. At the end of the day I was whisked safely back to my hotel. Full of memories and sights. Full of wine and food. Full of companionship too ! Thank you Detours !

This tour was worth every euro! We went with tour guide Miguel, who was extremely welcoming, knowledgeable, and good natured. The Douro Valley is stunning and just a short drive from Porto. On this tour, there are several stopping points for photos, snacks, and restroom breaks. The picnic is prepared by a local catering company and was delicious! The drive up into the valley is not for the faint of heart, there are steep hills and narrow roads. There is a short “off road” section of the trip, but it is very mild off-roading and nothing extreme. I will say that there are no guard rails alone the terrace roads, so beware if you are afraid of heights. The winery you visit is lovely and very well organized. There are several large dogs on the Quinta that are free-roaming, but all are VERY friendly. I loved meeting them. I could not recommend this tour enough. We are so happy we spent this day with Miguel and Detours.

The ideal way to see a unique and special place. The 4x4 tour offers a perspective not often seen from traditional tours. Our guide, Miriam, was exceptional. She was friendly, engaging, passionate and knowledgeable. Her English was excellent and she went above and beyond to ensure we remained on schedule without missing any of the experience. The lunch was authentic, regional Portuguese cuisine that was delicious and exceeded our expectations. Our winery experience was just as special with personal interaction and passionate hosts.

My wife and I were in Porto for our honeymoon and went on the Douro 4x4 adventure led by Fonzie. It was truly one of the best times we have ever experienced. Fonzie was kind, humorous, professional, insightful, and a GREAT driver. The tour felt like it was being led by a close friend of ours. We have used Detours several times and are always hugely impressed. Today we did the 4x4 Douro trip with Afonso, which was absolutely amazing. The guide was friendly, knowledgeable and gave us a fantastic day out, which included driving off-road, stops at panoramic views, a lovely lunch overlooking the Douro and a wine and port tasting, followed by a boat trip. The scenery throughout the day is spectacular and you are made to feel special and at no point rushed. Detours really take the trouble to give you a great experience and we will continue to use them. They chose a great Portuguese quinta to visit, for an authentic Portuguese experience.

Such a fun trip! They take you to locations where there are not a lot of tourists which was ideal. Along the way they had us stop at multiple cities which was perfect. It really is such a personal experience. Diogo was our guide and did a FABULOUS job. He was so funny and fun to be around. It felt like he was a friend and not a tour guide. He also gave great suggestions for the rest of our trip. I definitely recommend requesting him as your tour guide 😊
