Laura was an incredible guide! It was my husband and I’s first day in Japan and I can’t think of a better way to have kicked off our trip! We were shown some amazing places to grab a bite/drink. This was a wonderful customized tour. Thank you for introducing us to Japan!

Our guide - Laura - was very knowledgeable, very helpful and gave us a wonderful tour! We tried traditional Japanese foods and teas. We saw beautiful gardens, architecture, history and stores. She planned breaks. She had the subway mastered to help us quickly buy tickets. She got us around. It rained all day and yet we could not have had a better time!

Our tour was outstanding! Miko is the best! My family of 6 adults spent 8hrs with Miko and saw a ton! We told other people in Japan what we saw during our tour and they couldn’t believe we did it all in one day. It was a perfect taste of each area so we knew if we wanted to comeback and explore more on our own. The communication from day 1 was amazing. Miko understood what our goals were and formulated a perfect agenda. She even took pictures of us during our tour and e-mailed us a link to them when we were done. Can’t say enough good things about the tour.

My wife and I were visiting family in Yokohama and planned to spend a few days in Tokyo, but didn’t know where to start. Miko helped us enormously! She is a kind, thoughtful, warm guide to the city, and incredibly knowledgeable too—we learned about the best places to eat and explore and a ton of fascinating history. Miko was so patient with our questions and wanted to get to know us to better tailor and personalize the tour. We did so much in just a few short hours: walked through the stunning Hamarikyu Garden, sampled dashi from a shop that opened in the 1700s, tried amazake and imo kenpi at Japan’s first department store (founded at a kimono store in 1673!), drank the best coffee of my entire life, visited the Fukutoku Shrine and the Sensoji Temple (dating back to 628!) and bought darumas along the Nakamise Shopping Street. Finally, we wandered through Kappabashi Kitchen Town (my wife and I love cooking) and concluded the tour at the Ganso Shokuhin Sample-ya Kappabashi Showroom (the inventors of the hyperrealistic sample food displays you see in restaurant windows). After the tour, we felt way more comfortable in Tokyo and have already been back to explore more of Miko’s recommendations. In short: we can’t recommend this experience enough! Thank you, Miko!

I can't say enough about how great Hello! Tokyo Tours was during our stay in Japan. We spent four days in Tokyo and Hakone on tours they organized and led, and their expertise and support was invaluable. We were a university group of 28 people, mostly students, and Laura and Miko were with us most of the time. They divided us into two groups most of the time, which was a smart move, so we could more easily move around. They were knowledgeable and kind, and the tours were great. They provided us with historical context and cultural knowledge without overwhelming us with too much information, and they took us places we'd never have explored on our own, such as a vintage arcade and penny candy shop up on the 5th floor of a building. The Tokyo food tour was one of the most unique tours I've ever been on, and my favorite. It combined both history and gastronomy and visited three separate parts of the city. They even gave us each a fun Japan food checklist the size of a business card, so we could make sure we hit all the highlights before leaving. As good as the tours were, the guides were even better in moments of crisis. With a group that size, we had a couple medical incidents and one passport/wallet-left-on-a-bus situation and Laura and Miko handled everything seamlessly. We couldn't have been in better hands, and I can't recommend Hello! Tokyo Tours highly enough.

I worked with Hello! Tokyo to build an excellent excursion for my family. At first, I thought it would be doable for us to do Mt. Fuji with my dad, who has issues walking and uses a walker. The tour planners were so respectful and were real with me about how hard it would be for him to get around - especially on the trails. I appreciated the honesty and decided to use this tour business to help me find the perfect type of tour. We worked through email and figured out the best way to do some fun things around Tokyo that would be fun and comfortable for my entire family. When we met Rohan, our tour guide, we were so excited to start our day - he was so friendly and knowledgeable! We knew we hit the jackpot! Rohan created a wonderful experience in Tokyo and Yokohama for my family. He was patient and kind with my dad, told great historical stories about Japan, picked great spots to get food, and, as a bonus, took some fantastic photos of us visiting the fun sites. I highly recommend Hello! Tokyo Tours, and make sure to ask for Rohan!

Rowan was extremely attentive and helpful during this four custom tour of Tokyo. He has a lovely manner and a huge knowledge of the city after living there 30 years ex Australia. We felt so relaxed knowing Rowan’s conversational Japanese is so good. Thanks again…

This was our first visit to Tokyo and this private tour really gave us confidence to allow us to use the transportation system. Our guide, Miko, was with us every step of the way while we experienced the fish market, a tea house, temples and shrines, and even local foods, snacks and cool spots to escape the heat. Miko was personable and considered our well being at all times. We have travelled quite a bit and she was by far the best guide and companion we have ever had.

Rohan was so friendly and engaged, it was like we had met before. He was very flexible and led me to places I definitely didn't know about before and I had done quite a bit of touring around Tokyo before out meeting. In fact, I was going to cancel the tour, cuz I thought I had done a lot of touring of Tokyo. That would have been a big mistake, I saw places I never would have seen before. Rohan has over 30 years of experience in Tokyo and it shows. Highly recommended!

We loved this tour! Sid did an incredible job of walking us through several areas of Tokyo, sampling various favorite foods enjoyed by the Japanese. We also had a great lunch at a local restaurant. There is such an amazing variety of foods on display at the many shops along the streets, that we were at a loss about what things to try when we were on our own. We would have missed so much if we hadn't gone on this tour. Our small group of 7 was the perfect size for sharing the experience. Sid was a lot of fun to be with - spoke perfect English and was very organized. With a city as large as Tokyo, having a guide is invaluable.

My wife and I had 7 hours between disembarking from a cruise ship and checking in at Haneda Airport in Tokyo Japan. The “Hello Tokyo” private tour was the ideal way to spend those hours. “Hello Tokyo” provided us with detailed information on connecting with Sidney, our guide, after disembarking from the cruise ship in Yokohama. Sid was well versed in Japanese history and culture. After connecting, he spent some time becoming acquainted with our interests to ensure we got the best possible experience. Our tour started with a visit to the forested Meiji Jingu Shinto Shrine, then on to the old Nihonbashi district. On crossing the Nihonbashi bridge Sidney showed us the old “zero marker” for measuring distances to other locations in Japan; reviewed the layout of streets in the Edo Period; talked about construction in Tokyo in the 1600s and the rise of the street known as “medicine town” as we walked to Mitsukoshi the first department store in Japan that started as a kimono / textile shop in 1673. Lunch time. Sidney suggested a Japanese restaurant and helped us with menu selection. Then on to a fan shop founded in 1590, an old sweet / confectionary shop founded in 1877 and finally viewing a reproduction of an 1805 picture scroll in the basement concourse outside the Mitsukoshi department store before it was time to head to Haneda Airport. We did a private 6 hour walking tour with Sid and it was incredible! It was the perfect activity for our first day on Tokyo. We explored the transit systems and he helped us prepare for the rest of our trip on how to use the bullet trains, etc. He led us to some excellent foodie spots, showed some "locals only" spots, and created itinerary where we got to see some of the biggest attractions in Tokyo! We appreciated the customization of Japan's history to our interests and we hope to be back again soon!

This tour was an absolute delight. It's incredibly informative, very varied, well-paced and great fun! Most of the foods are things you wouldn't think to try yourself. I loved the wallet-sized card you receive with a list of 50 typically Japanese foods you tick off. I'm keeping mine so if get back to Japan, I'll try to knock off more items. I'll remember the laughter in our group of six as much as the food. Thanks again to our guide, Sid.

This tour was very helpful in understanding the culture in Japan, the history, and how to navigate the transit system.
