The Presidio, which is a part of the Golden Gate National Recreation area, was a former United States Army post.  The National Park Service has repurposed the area to provide numerous recreational opportunities to visitors.  The well-maintained trails offer opportunities for hiking and biking, There are several spots along the trails to get awesome views of the Golden Gate Bridge.  Of course, the views of the bay waters are beautiful from everywhere.  Unfortunately, parking could be an issue on busy days.  But, the place is well worth a visit.  One can spend hours and hours as one wishes.

A great afternoon touring the Presidio with Julie, who was a fun, friendly, and very knowledgeable guide. She did an excellent job of blending history with current happenings to give us insight into the roll the Presidio has had in history, as well as current times. She was very gracious in adjusting her schedule to accommodate us. In conversations ahead of booking I had asked if there was enough content for four locals familiar with the Presidio. The answer was "Yes" and I couldn't agree more. We learned so much and left with a much deeper appreciation of this wonderful SF asset. If you are considering booking, don't hesitate! It was a great experience, well worth the very reasonable cost and time commitment.

Our walking tour was better than we could have imagined. Julie was gracious, completely knowledgeable, positive with a passion for the Presidio and its history. She had interesting stories and responded to all of our questions with humor and sensitivity. She happily adapted to our interests and kept us engaged and curious. The tour gave us a perspective that many of us, although we all live locally, had not considered. By the end, we felt that we had spent the day with a good friend who took care of all of our needs. I couldn't recommend Julie more. Her communication prior to the tour was complete and professional. And she even sent us group pictures afterwards. This tour was beautiful and gave us a respite from the outside world. You can't go wrong.

We were a group of six women from a Bay Area book club. We've all been to the Presidio but never enjoyed it as much as we did with Julie...as one person said, "Julie is a gem." From the first phone call to meeting Julie in person, she was very responsive to questions and details of planning our day trip. Julie's knowledge of the Presidio was appreciated by our entire group. Do not hesitate to book with JBWalking Tours, you will not be disappointed.

I wish I could leave six stars for JB Walking Tours! I'm so glad that I booked this tour of the Presidio. My brother was visiting from out-of-state, and this was literally the only tour we took. We hit the jackpot! Julie shared entertaining and fascinating stories about the Presidio - from the little details like the origin of the cannons at the gate and the haunted hospital - to the general history and current use of the buildings. She even introduced us to an archeologist who was literally digging up footings in the Presidio when we met her. What a treat! And to further enhance the context of the Presidio, Julie shared many historical photos on her iPad as she described the history of the area. This really rounded out the experience. The pace of the tour was perfect (we got a lot of exercise!), and Julie's sincerity, humor and hospitality were spot-on. There's nothing like going on a walking tour with the proprietor of the company, and I couldn't imagine a better host than Julie. I've taken a lot of walking tours both domestically and internationally, and this one was truly top notch. Julie's tour gave us a great way to learn about the area, and to have fun in the process. Thank you, Julie, for a memorable day!

What a fun way to spend a day in SF! Went into this tour knowing little about the Presidio, Julie changed that by the end of our walk. Got to see the sights and hear about some history (including facts you wouldn't ready about in a history book). Breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge was the perfect wat to end the day!

Tour was fantastic. Julie is so knowledgeable and friendly and a great storyteller. I am a Bay Area native and I learned so much more than I thought I would - I highly recommend Julie’s tour.

My favorite part of the tour was strolling through the different neighborhoods and envisioning what life in the 1700's was like. Julie had many interesting stories about visionaries, scandals, and everyday life in the past with pictures and scenic comparisons standing on a very different Presidio today. This walking tour is sure to fascinate and educate about a beautiful part of San Francisco, the Presidio.

Just went on a really great walking tour of tons of interesting places in the Presidio in San Francisco. Went places I haven’t been ever in SF, learned some great facts about places and people associated with those places - from the ancient Native Americans all the way to Lucas Films. The trip was well organized, with good stories and pictures (on tablet, zooming was super easy.) We started off right on time, learned some cool facts about canons and gates, and then we were off. Great pace, beautiful sites and sights, and so informative. I highly recommend this tour. I’ll definitely take more friends and family on this, and hopefully tours of more of the Presidio and other parts of SF will come along soon!

This is an awesome tour for tourists and locals alike. There is such a rich history in the Presidio that most are not aware of and Julie is an awesome guide with a wealth of information and knowledge of the history of the Presidio. The tour also offered some spectacular views of San Francisco and The Golden Gate Bridge that are only seems on the roads less traveled. A great way to spend an afternoon in the city. Would highly recommend this to all. Thanks Julie!!!

I went on a guided walk through the Presidio, which I'd never really explored before (despite living in San Francisco for over ten years). Julie led us on an epic hike that brought us through the old hospital area, through the original Presidio grounds, up through the National Cemetery, then we finished with an amazing view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Through it all, she was able to provide fascinating historical information in a way that made it fun to hear. She supplemented her stories and anecdotes with images on a tablet, which was amazing when you were standing right about where a photograph was taken a hundred years ago, and can do a direct comparison. Julie is funny, and her sense of humor and bright personality really made the day that much more special. I'd totally go on any other guided tour she does.

During COVID, this was a wonderful way to spend time with others. I went as part of a work team-building exercise and it was so much fun. Social distancing was enforced, and everyone (including Julie the tour guide) wore a mask. We were all locals and yet the history was fascinating! It covered everything from Ohlone times through the world wars and even included some (very) contemporary history about Lucasarts/Disney's complex in the Presidio. Don't miss the spooky bits about the old military hospital, as well as the statue of a photographer of much infamy. As a dog person, walking through the pet cemetery was surprisingly poignant. And then, of course, seeing the Golden Gate Bridge up close and learning about how it was built and how it got its iconic color... unforgettable!

I have lived in San Francisco for 11 years, and didn't really know much history about the Golden Gate Bride and the Presidio. This was an amazing tour experience and I learned so much interesting information about two of San Francisco's landmarks. Julie is so knowledgeable, personable and fun which definitely added a lot to the experience! I highly recommend this tour!

I was already pretty familiar with the Presidio Park in San Francisco, but thought I would give this tour a try. Especially right now with Covid and museums being closed, I'd rather find activities to do outside. And I am so glad I did! I saw and learned so much more about the Presidio Park, and of course the views are always breathtaking. Julie had some great stories about some of the people who lived and worked in the Presidio while it was an army base. And she had a tablet loaded with historical pictures taken from the exact places we walked along the tour so we could compare before and afters. Who knew there was a pet cemetery in the park?! And I just love the view of the Golden Gate Park. The tour has some rolling hills but I didn't find it too strenuous and we were on sidewalks most of the time, with one or two dirt paths. Bring a sandwich or a snack and some water, especially if it's a hot day.
