We had a wonderful day on this tour! Mat, our guide, was a wealth of knowledge and filled the day with interesting facts and humour. We learnt about the unique geology of the region, which makes Plitvice lakes so special. The place was absolutely stunning! Mat ensured that we arrived ahead of the big coach groups and we beat all the queues which was an added bonus. I would highly recommend Mat and this tour - it was a great day! (Small piece of advice - some people wore sandals, but I would definitely not suggest doing so! We were really glad we wore trainers as the paths are very uneven in places)Plitvice Lakes are one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited! Plitvice Lakes are one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited! Traveling there with the tour guide Mat made it even better. I solo signed up and so did three other people. We were a small crew of four (5 with our guide Mat) and it was an awesome combo. The ride to the waterfalls found us driving through Karlovac and Tušilović and we saw buildings with visible bullet holes, carried over the from the 1991-1995 war. Mat knew so much history about Zagreb and Croatia and was patient with all of our questions. We first stopped at Rastoke, a medieval village... but except for a couple cool photos, it wasn't really worth it. We stayed for only 15 minutes, used the washroom, and some got tea / or grabbed lunch to go. Once we got to the gorgeous Plitvice Lakes, Mat journeyed with us and frequently offered to take solo and group pictures, helping us capture the whole day. He knew so much about the falls, the water, the grounds, the system, etc...He then suggested that we skip the boat that floats up the lake and instead, to spend over an hour walking alongside the lake -- so glad we listened! It was much prettier and much lovelier to be walking. The Upper Lakes were closed for maintenance of walkways, but it was barely a disappointment because the vast grounds still offered so much for what we COULD SEE! I was there in mid April and it was not very crowded (my suggestion to try to go in an uncrowded season). It was also 22*C and the sun was shining... a magnificent experience! I totally bonded with the two other woman in my group and it was such an awesome combo of walking / light hiking, and standing in awe at the gorgeously blue lakes. Mat spoke of his family and his life growing up and his personalization of this tour made it that much more memorable. These lakes are a SITE TO BE SEEN! Do not miss! This tour was worth every penny spent.
