Everything was excellent - communication with Varada Co., boat, staff, services, food, trips into the jungle in the day and night as well... Mostly I appreciate our guide Eddie - he was wonderful, always prepared to help, explain, tried to find and show animals in the forest...

This was most probably the best (wildlife/outdoor) experience that we had in Indonesia! The boat offers very comfy seats (not every boat has these) and bean bags from where you can enjoy the beautiful surroundings and sometimes also admire a few monkeys. The guides that lived with us on the boat were spotting the wildlife than our "untrained" eyes (we are city people) were able to. Sleeping on the boat (under a moskito net), being able to see the beautiful sourroundings each time I opened my eyes was definitely the best experience I had! We had all meals (cold soft drinks included) prepared by the cook on the boat - very tasty local cuisine. There is also a toilet and a shower with hot water available on the boat. In the national parks there is no possibility to buy any souvenirs, you can do that at the local airport in Pangkalan Bun (much better prices than on the bigger airports). The communication with Fardi was great, the (included) transfer from/to the airport (ca. 25 min drive) went very smooth. Payment can be done by credit card (additional charge) or cash (local currency IDR). I would say that this boat tour is a MUST for all outdoor lovers.

Amazing experience with a terrific crew and guide. The boat is clean but rustic. The food was abundant and excellent. Our guide, Erwin was excellent. Very knowledgeable. The weather is very hot and humid. If you're not used to it, prepare. If you have any mobility issues, I do not recommend this trip. The mattress is very comfortable.

We are a young family of two adults and one 12 year old travelling across Indonesia. We flew from Jakarta to Pangkalan Bun and then on to Semarang but return flights in and out of Jakarta seem to offer the best value for visiting Tajung Puting National Park. This 3D/2N houseboat tour into Borneo was an absolute delight. Slowly meandering through the jungle by boat was very relaxing and seeing the Kalimantan Orangutans in their own environment a privilege. There’s obviously no total guarantee you’ll see these incredible creatures but by visiting three feeding stations at different research facilities deep in the jungle, there’s every chance. You’ll undoubtedly come across Probiscus monkeys and long tail Macaques too plus some beautiful Asian Kingfishers. For the brave, a night trek can bring the promise of seeing all sorts of other jungle life but we were a bit unlucky because the heavens opened up and we had to abandon that option. The boat itself was functional and comfortable but do not expect 5 star luxury. This is a traditional Klotok house boat, not the Queen Mary! The boat staff and our guide, Iven, (English speaker and interpreter for the rest) were truly excellent. They had incredible knowledge and ensured we saw and experienced a huge amount of wildlife other than obvious Orangutan pull. We couldn’t leave a review without mentioning the food which was truly excellent. Our cook happened to be the sister of our guide and she created an incredible array of Indonesian food three times a day. Planning this trip was made very easy with excellent communication from Sasa who greeted us on arrival. All in all, it was an unforgettable experience that comes very highly recommended. We’ve seen some incredible things on our travels across Java, Lombok and Bali but this was something else for us. Thank you very much Termina kasih banyak

An unforgettable experience. We saw orangutans in several places and a wild one outside the national park. They tried to tailor the programme so we didn't have to wait at the airport and could explore the city instead. The crew were so kind and helpful throughout and the food was fantastic. Guide Darmin is fantastic, I would definitely recommend a tour with them!

This tour was the first stop of our honeymoon and, what an amazing start! From the moment we started looking for trips in Kalimantan, the communication with Sasa was very easy via whatsapp and email. They are always available and respond to any question in very short time. Once we arrived in Pangkalan Bun, our guide Dewa was waiting for us at the airport and drove us to the port (with a little break on the way when we could have breakfast in a hotel due to the availability of the driver). The national park is absolutely breathtaking and the klotok is perfectly equipped for any contingency (we had sun, rain and everything in between) with canvas covers, a mosquito net and a western toilet and shower. The food on board was incredible: tasty, homemade and more than enough (Dewa joked that they kill the tourists with food and this is absolutely true). The help and the guide anticipated any need we may have, providing us with fresh water, wet towels, snacks, even a hot spot to send a short message home (since our SIM cards had no service in the park). The viewing of orangutans is guaranteed and, apart from seeing them at the feeding stations, we were even lucky enough to see them on the track to the feeding station, just 10 meters away from us. We could also see other animals like macaques (which stole our cookies), proboscis monkeys, birds and fireflies. We would 100% recommend the experience and just a big thanks to Varada Borneo Tours, our guide Dewa and our crew (captain, help and cook), it was truly amazing!

In addition to all the previous reviews I am joining the positive impressions they elude. We were on our honeymoontrip, flying in from Bali, which was , though by other reports quoted as tedious, not a great thing. We were welcomed at our hotel and driven to the harbour, where we met the boats crew, including a charming cook and the guide, whose name sounded like Iim(hope I spelled it right). He is a dayak by origin and told us many fascinating things concerning his tribe and the relation to their habitat, e.g. the jungle and its wilderness. He also had experience with the orang utan reservation build up by Dr. Galdikas, because he had worked there for many years, so he knew the jungle by heart. As everybody in this panel had already mentioned: the trip was perfect, the boat clean and spacy, the meals plenty and tasteful, the crew „overboarding“ with friendliness and competence. Regarding the fauna: we had it all! Except the saltwatercrocodile we saw nearly every major inhabitant of the jungle, especially of course the OrangUtans, followed by nose monkeys, makaks, Gibbons, tukans and Kingfishers. We will remember this journey, which occasionally felt like the trip into the heart of darkness( for the coppola fans) as a wonderful lifetime experience and want to thank the varada team for making it possible.Karl

WOW WOW WOW - What an experience, what a great company - starting from the Whatsapp Support to arrange all the way to the crew on the boat, the lodge, of course, our amazing guide MARWARDI to the boss, Wati - it was one of the best holidays we ever had. Thanks to the whole team and when you are staying in Bali - do not miss this 3 days extra to experience Borneo and the great fluffy Orans along with the other wildlife. Thumbs UP!

Fantastic experience lead by an awesome team. From the booking team at Varada through to Sham our awesome guide who was a wealth of knowledge and Popeye the number 1 captain on the river. The food was excellent and the deck hand made sure everything was always in top shape. This is an excellent tour I would definitely recommend and would request Sham 100%

We’ve just spend 3 days and 2 nights on a Klotok with Mawardi (guide) and the crew and it was an absolutely incredible experience. This is one of those tours where having a good guide makes the experience SO much better, and what a guide! Mawardi was not only passionate about his job and the wild life of Borneo, but he also knew interesting facts about life in the rainforest that he shared with us. He also offered a night rainforest hike experience that was really awesome. We walked with a forest ranger for almost an hour and saw all kinds of night creatures. Regarding the boat, we had a small boat all to ourselves. It was perfect for the experience. It is true that the rainforest can be quite noisy at night, but combining the exhaustion from the heat and living so many experiences with the slight rocking of the moored boat we just drifted right off. When we visited the orangutang feeding platforms it was sauna-like hot, but Mawardi brought bottles of cool water for us. Even when we with a bunch of others and we could just sit and watch the oramgutans (there were plenty) he would come and find us to show us all sorts of other animals around the area, and make sure we got the best views. When we returned to the boat the crew waited for us with cold towels and delicious snacks. Between trips into the jungle we would venture out to find more wildlife along the shores of the river. Mawardi would explain to us the dofferent interactions between the species and where we would find them depending on the time of the day. We even saw a crocodile at one point! The facilities on the boat are simple, you have a boat shower and a toilet and a sink with running water. You don’t really need much more. You will regardless be sweating the whole time, as you are in a rainforest. Mawardi did an amazing job of keeping us posted of the timetables and what we’d be doing each day. The whole crew were super friendly and pleasant and even produced a Birthday cake when they found out it was going to be my husbands birthday while in the jungle. It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and we would 100% recommend it.

This was an incredible experience. The crew consisted of a chef, a deckhand, a captain and our tour guide, Erwin, who was fantastic. They all went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable and all our needs were met. The food was also very tasty and there was plenty of it. Erwin made sure we got to the feeding area early, securing us front row seats whilst delivery excellent information about the surrounding area and animals. He has 25 years experience and it shows. Can't recommend this experience and this company enough, they are also very competitively priced compared to similar companies. Big thanks, Shane and Abbie.

This is the best of the best for touring Tanjung Puting park. Kasmawati is incredible, and knows the park and Central Kalimantan unlike anyone else. We spent two days on the Klotok in the hands of her guides and then another two days visiting an incredible Dayak community in the rainforest. Kalimantan is both amazingly beautiful and filled with kind people and also a land undergoing full assault by Palm Oil plantations. The type of experience provided by Varada represents the very best of eco-tourism and helps to bring attention to the many challenges ahead in this part o f Borneo. If you do this you will forever signs your emails with #NoPalmOil

This tour exceeded expectations. Wati was easy to deal with through the booking process. As a solo traveller, she made the effort to make my trip possible when other operators weren’t interested. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Darmin was an excellent guide and the rest of the team looked after us well. Every part of the trip was well organised with visits to the three feeding stations.

I had an amazing time on this tour. Edyy, my guide was knowledgeable and an excellent tour guide. We saw plenty of orangutans at the feeding stations and wild ones from the boat. He also went out of his way and took me off the beaten path when I mentioned I wanted to see pitcher plants. We also saw Proboscis monkeys, gibbons and macaques. The Captain Popaye and boat hand Yogi were very professional and made sure I was taken care of. Yogi was especially good at spotting both the saltwater and freshwater crocodiles. Yuni the cook made amazing food throughout the trip. The owner of the company met me as I boarded the boat and when we returned. She is local Dayak and you can really tell how much she cares about the orangutans and the conservation of the jungle. The boat was comfortable and the western toilet and shower were a plus. I can’t wait to go through all the photos I took. 10/10 recommended this trip and varada borneo tours.
