This tour is a must do... The day was very enjoyable with good snorkeling, good views, good food and lovely conversations with the crew. We all loved it!

Ocean Free is a two-masted motor-sailer, crew of 3, 8-10 passengers the day I went. It's two hours out to their spot on the reef, just north of Green Island. The vessel is hugely more fun than the big catamarans, and the crew were helpful and friendly the whole day. On arrival we had about an hour for scuba or snorkel as preferred, with careful safety briefings and dive master/dive instructor in attendance at all times. The skipper kept watch from the cabin roof. All equipment supplied and all experience levels welcome. After lunch on board, we went ashore on Green Island for an explore, then another optional dive/snorkel, and then back aboard for the trip home. The adventure was everything I hoped.

The ride to the island was great! The crew was friendly and competent. Food was very plentiful. Directions to find the boat were very clear! Had a great time. Only other thing would have been great was to get pics or video from a pro photographer as my cell phone took crummy videos!!

We had a great day on the cruise over to Green Island. The crew could not have been more lovely. Helpful, kind and with infectious enthusiasm. We were fed throughout the day with good, fresh food. It is a very different experience to most trips out of Cairns - proper sailing and really good fun. The crew were very helpful when we went snorkelling - they were keen to make sure we all saw the best of the Barrier Reef. They provide a good experience for all levels of snorkelers. The snorkelling was excellent. A thoroughly good experience with an excellent crew.

Don't go with any preconceived ideas about what you will see and you will be amazed. Learning to snorkel, meeting turtles in their natural environment amidst a cloud of tiny fishes, and seeing the crocs on Green Island were some my highlights. A team of three looked after us keeping us safe, fed, and informed. And a lovely sail back to Cairns. It was a wonderful day, worth every penny and I'd recommend it.

A delightful day. The staff were so gracious, informative and patient. The snorkeling was great, amazing coral, colorful fish, turtles, humongous clams and more. They feed you so well. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that they drop you off at Green Island for an hour or so and what humans have done to that island is a bit depressing. We couldn’t wait to leave. Otherwise, a perfect day.

Amazing day on a sailing boat with an excellent crew that was both nice, chill and enormously attentive. We have visited marine parks in different parts of the world, but this was next level. Great care for those scuba diving or snorkeling for the first time. All the equipment was in top shape. The food was very fresh and tasted great. With three adults we were so happy to have chosen a smaller boat - it felt both intimate and like true luxury! Best suited for those without young children.

Spent the day on Ocean Free Sailing boat out to Green Island today. It was an awesome day, awesome crew and fantastic experience. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to bypass the crowds for a more unique sailing and snorkeling experience. Crew couldn’t be more helpful, snorkeling was great, food was great and will be back at some stage to do again. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Food offered is great. Plenty of food and drink throughout. We were well taken care of and fed. The sailboat is fun but if the weather is colder and water choppier, those who sit on deck and towards the front will be wet and cold. Limited seating available under cover. The sailboat is also slower to get out and back than the catamaran boats. They do use 1-2 sails but the engine is always running. The company has a transfer boat allowing for shuttling from the sailboat to Green Island and back. Gives you an opportunity to get some beach time in addition to the snorkeling and boating experience. But it’s a great way to experience ocean travel and Green Island.

The team was kind and proficient. The great barrier reef was beautiful. Safety was a priority and food was good.

If you truly want to experience the reef in all its glory, you must travel with Ocean Free. We took the boat on the Green Island tour and had the best experience ever! The sail boat only accommodates 25 passengers, so with 4 crew members, we felt personally looked after. The crew were professional, knowledgable and made the whole experience worth while. We chose to snorkel, and feeling slightly anxious, were supported by one of the crew members to snorkel over the reef. They were able to guide us towards turtle, parrot fish, black tipped reef sharks, as well as a whole host of other sea creatures and their knowledge about the reef and coral was outstanding. The food was incredible. Fresh produce and all very plentiful, catering for all diets. I would not hesitate to recommend this company to anyone that wants to visit the reef for a personally tailored service.

My partner and I sailed with Paul, Ana, and Jan on the Ocean Free yesterday and were amazed and impressed by the personalized care and kindness that the team provided! Each individual made us feel like family and every effort was made to ensure that we had a wonderful experience. We cannot recommend this team and this company enough. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and for going above and beyond to provide us with such a positive and memorable day.

Had a wonderful time. The staff was a pleasure to be with, helpful, very safety conscious and knowledgeable. Made sure everyone on the motor sailor regardless of their age or activity level were well taken care of personally and were safe in the water.

Fantastic trip in a small group away from the larger groups in the faster and larger boats. Crew and Skipper (Mike) were great, very informative and attentive. Whilst having a nice breakfast consisting of coffee, pastries and fruits we set sail to Green Island enjoying the cruise. We snorkelled off Green Island away from the larger crowds. Plenty of time to explore in the clear waters. Saw all kind of colourful fishes, turtles, squid, sharks, coral etc! Lunch, served on board, was delicious. We were then taken on a small boat to Green Island. Green Island is beautiful but spoilt as over commercialised resort with many tourists, (note you cannot take your rented snorkel equipment to the island - as already mentioned island is over commercialised and will charge you for renting equipment). We had an ice cream on the island and left after 45 minutes, the first available boat back but if you prefer to stay behind and lie on the beach, you can get the second boat back, which means you stay in the island 1hr 45mins but cannot snorkel or dive when you get back to the boat. We finally headed back to port, relaxed, enjoying the company and a complimentary glass of wine with cheese, biscuits & some cake. In summary a highly recommended trip!!! PS. Small but important note, our first trip was postponed due to bad weather with the ship having to turn around. Ocean Free were very apologetic, offered free lunch and either a full refund or for us to re-book for another date. Thankfully we had a free day and rebooked for another day. A wonderful experience!!!

We went on Ocean Free on a rather dark and rainy day but the staff still made the best out of the situation. Unfortunately because of the winds the waves were too big and for safety reasons we had to turn back. Although we were dissapointed we were extremely impressed by how the crew handled the situation. They were so friendly and helpful and really wanted us to have a good time regardless. We made our way back and listened to music which was fun. I will also say we were pleasantly surprised by the food they served for lunch. We went in with the expectation that it would just be a few snacks but they had a great spread and we at least got to have a nice lunch on the boat back at the dock! Will definitely return to try and snorkel with this company! Thanks again to all the amazing crew!! :)

We didn't actually do the Green Island tour because it was cancelled due to low numbers. Instead we did the Ocean Freedom tour and had a great time. We were greeted with teas, coffees, pastries and fruit and very welcoming staff. We were taken to two spots where we were able to snorkel and as we both hadn't snorkelled before, we had a member of the team take us to where we could see the beautiful corals of the Great Barrier Reef as well as the colourful fish. We even saw a couple of turtles swim by. Lunch and afternoon tea was provided and there was more than enough for everyone. The whole experience was magical and I highly recommend this Company. Safety was paramount in everything that we did and they constantly kept an eye on everyone to ensure that they were safe. If I had the time, I'll do this tour all over again. Thank you for a brilliant time!

First, let me say the staff was EXCEPTIONAL! 5 stars to them for being patient and extremely helpful in a very bad situation. It was a very bad day to be on the water. It dumped rain and the waves were too much and it didn’t help that the boat was a sailboat. Several guests threw up and several more were very sick. As far as how the company conducts business - it’s terrible. I give them 1 star. To send us out in that on a sailboat was ridiculous! They have a much larger catamaran style boat sitting right beside it and they should have put us all on there and explained that we would be more happy there than send us out for that horrible experience. We went out the next day - also in the rain and it was so much nicer to be on a larger boat - no one got sick - just totally different. Lastly - and this is on the company as well - we purchased the scuba dive option and we REALLY were looking forward to this!! When we get on the boat they give us a questionnaire to fill out and then we found out that I wasn’t allowed to scuba dive. Supposedly, I take a medication that isn’t allowed by the company - that’s what the crew told me anyway. Why wasn’t this addressed BEFORE we get to the boat?! Why didn’t you have me fill that out ahead of time so we could work out the details BEFOREHAND?! Again it put the crew in an awkward situation because I was VERY UPSET! I came to the GBR and wanted to scuba dive! So deal with these things ahead of time not the day of. Take care of your staff and don’t put them in bad situations! It was a miserable day and we were drowned rats all day and didn’t get to see much of the reef and the ONLY bright spot about it was your amazing crew! Hats off to them and shame on you for putting the dollar ahead of good customer service!
